| These period-correct tall boots are made slightly wide, and also have a classic square toe box. This means that they will fit and feel looser than modern cowboy boots. For a snugger fit, some customers choose to wear heavier socks, or use sizing inserts inside the boots. |
The boots are excellent quality. They fit me right at the calves. Not impossible to wear but snugger than I liked even for a size 13. I had elastic placed in the rear and while ruining the authenticity, it made them much more useable. Size 13, with 18 inch calves.
The Long Leather Cavalry Boots look great, but fit poorly. The foot is properly sized, but the upper is entirely too small. Cavalry boots are intended to be worn with the pants inside the boot. Trying on the boot with a bare leg, my calf stuck in the boot and it took considerable effort to remove it. I have pretty average calves. For these boots to work as intended, I would need to have toothpick sized calves.
The boots are comfortable and very impressive. Money well spent.
Boots fit, look as advertised and are high quality…just what I wanted.
Arrived quickly, exactly as described. I wear a 9 1/2 in one brand of boots and a 10 1/2 in another. So I ordered a 10 in these. They fit good, still a little loose in the side. But they stated that they were wide. They will do nicely for my cowboy shoots.

We do German Renaissance Re enacting at various events. These wide toed boots are just super for my husband.
I ordered size 9 (my regular shoe size) but this boot runs about one size large and is very wide in the heel. I will need to return for a size 8. Otherwise, the boot is well made, has a leather sole, and looks period.

my old cavalry boots were warn out from shoots. these new ones were a great replacement. i belong to SASS and my alias is CUSTER. also i am a veteran of the 12th CAVALR.
Admittedly I was a bit skeptical about spending that kind of money on boots. However I was blown away by their quality.
I could go to war in these, if I was on a horse and carried a sword and lived in the 19th century. I love them. they are thick, heavy duty and will certainly last a life time. Might leave them to my son.

Historical emporium has great customer service, I emailed them to ask about the fit of these boots and what size they would recommend. They got back to me very quickly and the size they recommended was a perfect fit.The boots seem to be historically accurate and good quality leather.
The reviews said they ran large

Just what I was looking for. Not as tall as some of your other offerings. Just the right size. Much better than the plastic covers that came with my St. Nicholas outfit. My western boots just didn't look right, even here in western Nebraska.
I normally wear slightly larger size 8 boots to get the width but got these in size 7. Perfect fit!
The boots looked even better in person and are unexpectedly comfortable to wear! The craftsmanship on them is very impressive! These handsome boots are made far better than any modern equivalent. Once again I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of items carried by this shop.
As a life long reenactor and cowboy action shooter I am constantly looking for new "personas" to assume. It is very important that my character appear period correct in every manner, but most importantly his dress. I research my persona extensively. These are great value for money and exactly as described. The soles are slick when new as with any full leather sole. When I get some wear in them, I will get a traction sole and heel applied. you would need to pay at least twice as much money elsewhere to get a boot as authentic and as well made as these. They do fit a little large, but with thick socks are comfortable.
I ordered size 9 boots after reading reviews that the boots run large. I normally wear size 9.5 boots and still the boots were a little too big. I put insoles in the boots and that really helped the fit. The quality and workmanship of the boots are great. A great addition to my civil war uniform. Overall I’m very pleased with these boots.

Very good experience all around. The product was excellent (Black Cavalry Riding Boots) and customer service was very helpful. The boots only come in whole sizes and I am usually a 10 1/2. I ordered 11 and they were way too large. I spoke with customer service and they were quite helpful with tips and eventually helped me exchange for size 10's. Very easy and relatively quick turnaround on the exchange. The 10's fit great by the way, the boots run a tad large for their sizes. I went riding in them today (2 different horses) and they were great! Very authentic look, feel, grip and construction. Oh, the sole at the toe was a bit too, ok, WAY to square for my liking, so I rounded them off just a bit on a grinding wheel and re-blacked with a Sharpee marker. Perfect.
They are just as represented and are real leather. I could not find anything suitable after looking in local stores. They will complete my costume.
The only problem was the fit. I ordered 1/2 size longer than usual and length is fine but the instep was way too tight. They would be good for a narrow foot but not wide feet with a high instep. I could not stay in them long enough to think of breaking them in. They are now at the shoe shop for stretching.

Bought these for CASS Canadian Nationals and they worked great over three days of shooting. Comfortable and a good fit for me. I'm a size 11US. Canadians watch out for import taxes duty etc. It's charged in full on the converted US value.
These are really good boots - well put together and surprisingly comfortable, and they look fantastic too :) One thing to note though is that the soles are quite soft leather, not like the hardened leather you'd normally find on the soles of riding boots. I took mine straight away to a local cobbler and he put on a non-slip sole and a proper heel, so now they will last me forever as I'll just replace the new soles when they wear through, and the leather will remain intact!
These fit perfect and are perfect for the Wyatt Earp role I've been cast in. Already got them polished to a high gloss.
