Sovereign Regency Velvet Tailcoat - Navy Velvet

Bought this for my Darcy outfit for Halloween/dickens this year. Very happy with it.

I'm part of an improv troupe that creates stories in the style of Jane Austen. When we started three years ago we cobbled together costumes from and bought cheap. Suffice it to say when I unboxed the coat I was immediately impressed by the quality. It fits properly and looks good. Coupled with the HE fall front trousers and a HE vest it really helps me get into character (whether as beau or a cad). Miss Austen would approve.

There is not a specific occasion or event. I just like wearing 19th century clothing in my daily life. I have amassed quite a wardrobe at this point and a good deal of it has come from Historical Emporium.

My wife and I participated in the Rochester Dickens Festival in December 2024, with cheaply made costumes. While we carried off the events, we were almost ashamed of the quality of our outfits. This Sovereign Regency Tailcoat is the "real deal" because it is superbly constructed, using durable, attractive materials, and expertly finished with all the details needed. Although I have a broad chest, the arms were too long for a smart, tailored appearance... but my local tailor modified the sleeve length for about $25. I now have a "custom-fit" Regency tailcoat that will more than match to quality clothing of the other participants. The two Regency waistcoats I also purchased will complete the illusion! Outstanding!

It worked really well for our Bridgerton Ball.

I went for the small and I usually wear size 38R. I prefer my coats to hug my torso but this one stands out as an exception. I wear it for my morning walks, I find it too flashy for wearing to a shopping centre. Well made and very beautiful!

This coat is for a production of Pride and Prejudice for the character of Mr. Darcy. It makes him look very elegant!

This coat arrived in the mail after an incredibly long wait, and found it a little bit of a letdown. The sleeves are huge, so long that my hands got lost in them and I had to have them taken up (which cost extra money). This is normal for me with coats and trousers but these were even longer than usual. The collar and sleeves definitely aren't velvet. They don't have any two-tone shine to them. It's morel like a suede or felty material that just eats up dust and lint. One of the lapels wasn't folded right, it stuck out awkwardly and I had to iron it into shape to match the other side. All of these take at least a star off, as it's a bit of a fixer upper, more so than usual.
Apart from that though, it's alright. It has a very nice look, it's ornate and incredibly dapper. The inside pockets are nice to have, even if they're pretty small. I think the normal black one would do just as well. There is no velvet in this whatsoever.

I usually feel that the coats I order from HE are just ok. This one is absolutely beautiful. Really nice texture to the fabric, sleek, and well made.

This is a gorgeous coat! The quality is perfect along with the design and touches of velvet throughout. Historical Emporium was also so very speedy in getting the delivery to us. We will definitely be using them again!
