19th Century Town Coats
Step into everyday 1800s with our authentic Town Coats, the gentleman's choice for 19th-century daytime attire from the 1850s-1890s.
These refined fitted coats, reaching past the hips, evolved from earlier styles to better suit the active Victorian gentleman's daily life in town. Each coat showcases period-correct details including a lapel collar, three-button styling, and the distinctive waist seam that sets it apart from the casual sack coat. Ideal for historical reenactments, museum interpretations, and portraying daily 1800s life, our Town Coats can be styled traditionally with the top button fastened or worn open to display your waistcoat and pocket watch.
The style was worn several ways. Either buttoned at the top button like a sack coat or worn completely open in order show off the vest and pocket watch chain. Due to the lower set of buttons often times the collar of a vest may have been visible above the topmost button.
We are proud of our wide selection of Victorian Town Coats. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
