I now own and wear daily several pairs of 1800s trousers and have acquired this, my second vest. Have never been a vest fan but I am now--this and my other vest are in daily use now and look spectacular--very well made, too.

This is my second time buying an "Old West" vest for my costume as a "Living History" re-enactment player. The first attempt was at another web site and the sizing turned out to be an educated guess, it didn't fit. At the Emporium the sizing instructions were accurate and it fits perfectly! I also appreciate that I can purchase the components of my character/outfit one at a time and still have that continuity that the whole outfit looks like it was purchased together.

Though the vest is old design it’s looks great with jeans or wearing to work. Fits well. Good quality. Will be buying another one.

This is a well made vest. The material is a heavy duty cotton and feels like very soft canvas. I gave it 4 stars only because of the plastic buttons. They are heavy duty buttons, but I would have paid more money for a vest with buttons that were more period correct (such as wood or another natural material). Also, the tag on the vest says "Gunslinger Vest" and the brand on the label is Frontier Classics. So it is designed as a western style vest. I was wanting something in a Victorian style to wear with my bowler hat, but it will also go well with my western hat. I ordered a size Large and it fits true to size. I wear a size 42 suit and it was a little big, but was able to adjust it down to my size with the tab belt on the back. Plenty of pockets.

Quality is spectacular and the shipping is as if I walked into the store and purchased it, delivery from the west coast was quick like I've never seen. Customer service top notch, size of clothing was as described. Best to get one size larger as with all dress clothes due to the high waist. Best clothing company ever!!

This is a great quality, great-looking vest. Sewing quality is outstanding. The material is thick and soft. Buttons are quality, too. I normally would fall into the Large sizing, which I ordered initially, but had to re-order a Medium, which fit perfectly.

Wearing this vest is not only comfortable, but remarkably historic. I have only received compliments when I wore it - everyone has asked me more about it, and I've told them right away about the Emporium. Works superbly with a cravat and a pocket watch. Hopefully, one day, the mainstream fashion can return to this golden age! We can only try.

We were looking for a vest for my (now) husband. We finally found the right one on the site. We bought 2 sizes as we didn't know which would fit best. We chose the smaller one and returned the larger one. We had a family member take in the vest a bit because it was still a little big, but there is no way my husband would be comfortable in the next size down. All in all the vest was just what he was looking for and he looked great at our wedding!

No occasion. Just thought I would start gathering my western attire. I wore to church and everyone really like it. The only problem I have is that, I measured wrong and I chose my usual size(XL, when I should had chosen 2XL). It doesn't go over my belly, but that's ok, because I can wear it unbuttoned. The bow tie fits great. I want to build a complete western outfit, but I'll have to do it one piece at a time. I would like to get a pair of cowboy boots next or maybe a couple of shirts(Bib styles). Then, I'll work on getting a couple pairs of pants. At least, that's the plan. I'm very happy and glad I found this store. I check this site often and add items to my wish list. This vest is spot on. Had to workout an exchange because I needed a tall - MEASURE THE LENGTH! You'll save yourself the trouble. Once I got this vest though I was sold. The quality is great. Nice solid canvas with a beautiful texture. It's already starting to soften and bend more easily with some wear. The buttons and back strap are all super solid. It's just super well constructed, great fabric quality, excellent fit. I'll be back for more. This is exactly what I was looking for. Great quality at a great price. Thanks!!

Great looking vestments, I am sure glad I found these!. I reccomend this to anyone who loves wearing blue jeans casual, I knew how good this thing is going to look, just as soon as I saw, and touched it, I haven't seen much of any other clothing offered anywhere else this good. I really like this vest and plan to use it when the weather warms and stays warm to complete my casual/dress up look. Either with jeans and a casual shirt or with a dress shirt, tie and dress slacks.

After much searching I found the perfect vest here. Fits well and is very well made. I gave gotten several vests from other places, and that is not the case. I couldn't have asked for better than I got here. And I will definately order a couple more!

My second vest of this style (outgrew the first, it's still in good shape). Quality of everything I have bought from Historical Emporium is excellent. After ordering I learned I would need it earlier than expected and standard shipping might not work. I called customer service to see if I could upgrade to expedited shipping. Customer Service looked up my order and assured me it would arrive on time with standard shipping, in fact it arrived a day earlier than expected. They could have charged me the extra shipping fee and I would have never known the difference. It is so nice to do business with an honest company that offers great products.

Love this vest. It's been hard for me to find a vest that will fit. I'm 5'9" and wear a 2xlt shirt due to having a bit longer torso. I just wish it was available in more colors..I wear it to church and any occasion that calls for a more formal attire...

Made just a little big width. I will have to take it for alteration. It is a nice authentic vest for any occasion.

The lighter weight but woolen mix makes for a good semi-formal wear. Added a modern point collar shirt with a tie and collar clip for a routine bread and butter outfit. Cut and collar were perfect.

I tend to grit my teeth if I have to spend more than $50 for a vest, but I've got to admit it's very well made. Quality material and stitching. So much so, that after I received the double breasted herringbone vest, I was so impressed with it that I bought the single breasted herringbone vest as well.

Its pretty dark for being "gray". I do like the metallic buttons and the quality overall is very nice, but should be considering its 3x the $ of every other vest I looked at. Biggest complaint and very disappointed that the backing was a black linen material, fairly thick and heavy which made it very hot. All the pictures showed a light gray backing which was highly desired to match with the rest of the wedding attire. Unfortunate.

I love this vest! I provides a nice sense of dignity and elegance to my wardrobe and I'm pretty sure my IQ goes up when I wear it. It's comfortable, seems very well made. For example, even the back is substantial, unlike the chintzy material that so many use! Now I just need to find a quality pocket watch!

This is just what I was looking for. The vest seems sturdy, built to last. The blend feels nice-- a touch of wool (25%) but not so much that would make it too warm to wear indoors. I wear this as everyday work wardrobe, not as a costume, so I need something that will last. It's also available in tall sizes, which I need, and which are really hard to find in a lapel vest. I buy vests regularly, but am disappointed with most of them. And most cost more than this one. This vest I am extremely happy with. I may even buy another one--something I never do with clothes. It's that good.

Great character garment, I have always admired the character clothes of actors in the old westerns, from great actors to the B-class movies. I reccomend this company for the quality and impressive results in recreating them so well. Checking sizes will help you, however you will not find better than this company anywhere in my impression. I originally ordered the wrong size, but returned it for the right size. All just using the website information. As for the vest, it is real nice and looked good with my black suit and tie. I have purchase other items from your company and have never been disappointed with any of my purchases.

I find myself swooning over this vest. I was a little worried, because it wasn't designed for females, per say, but everything else about it was perfect so I took a leap. I'm glad I did! The color was accurate, it felt great once put on and I can't think of anything I would change. Also, real pockets, good lord it's nice to see real pockets.

Love it! Quality of the fabric and styling are excellent! Great crossover piece with a classy touch for my favorite looks -- can go from formal to casual depending what it's combined with. Something I can wear to work, church, and downtown. The rounded bottom hem works nicely for displaying a fancy belt buckle. The Large size is slightly big for my 44" chest, but the adjustable buckle in the back makes it work, sizing is comfortable without buttons straining. Love the four front pockets, plenty of options for storage. The color is better described as brown/black, not brown/navy. The darker stripe is a soft black, not a blue tone. Love the brown/black stripe as it is, coordinates with more of my shirts/pants/jackets than the brown/navy would. The vertical stripes give a subtle slimming look.

I intend to wear the vest in several upcoming event as a living historian

I ordered the whole suit; Frock coat, pants, vest and spats. Great quality. I'm 6'2" 215lbs and the XLs are a little on the large size, but I'll be getting them tailored. Not sure if the large would have done it, so not a big issue. LOOKS GREAT. Good weight to the fabric.

Seems great. Haven't tried to wash/clean it yet but the quality is nice. Trust the tape measure. I couldn't bring myself to order a size large as 100% of my wardrobe is XL. Ended up having to exchange it. I think I could have even fit a medium. Trust the tape measure procedure they give you. Also, go a size up on the pants as suggested. The Ferndale combo looks pretty sweet.

The material feels substantial and is really high quality but it is not too hot despite it's thickness. I wore it with a puff tie and dress shirt in low 80s for pictures and while officiating a wedding near Jackson and it was very comfortable the whole time. The unique look and metal buttons get a lot of compliments and the double breasted style looks formal even without a jacket. I am 5'11", 165 and the regular M fit very well. The length is longer than the average vest which really helps it to look great without a jacket.

Bought this with the possibility of sending it back if it wasn't a quality item. When I received it I was impressed with the delivery packaging and the quality of the vest. The workmanship was very good, it was very comfortable and the sizing was great. I ordered a 'Tall' as I like a longer vest and it worked perfectly for me.

Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. This is a beautiful vest with nice lines. I have not worn it as often as I planned because both welt pockets are stitched in the middle, and though the description suggests they would hold a watch, the remaining gap is too small. Since a fob watch is a common accessory for such a vest, this was disappointing. The vest is otherwise very good. Editor's note: Pockets are sewn shut for transit and can be fully opened with a seam ripper upon receipt.

The only thing that I have against it that I ordered a large where it fits tight. I think I could have purchased a XL instead. I sized this according to my chest measurement and found it to be too big. I didn't have time to exchange it so I had a tailor take it in and now it fits better. Be careful with the sizing, and perhaps these run a little big. Take some accurate measurements, talk to the customer service folks, see what they think before you place your order. This looks very handsome, feels a little bit like a costume piece with some of the finishing. Given the price, I wouldn't expect anything to feel like a short cut on this, but I'm only taking one star. Without a coat, this is a really ostentatious waistcoat. Be warned. It's an attention getter. With a coat over top, I get the splashes of gaudiness that I was looking for, lurking beneath a bit of classy modesty. The weight of this is really light, probably the kind of waistcoat you're looking for in warmer climates.

I was looking for a straight bottom vest. I probably would have bought this all cotton beauty in sable, but my size was sold out. NO REGRETS! This is not only a soft, well-sized, extremely well-made NOT from China garment, it is really a complement to all my clothes, (most of which are HE products, due to their overall quality). Seriously, one of the best "side features", it is well-lined and just heavy enough not to wrinkle whether riding or sitting for long periods. Frankly, I'll bet any color will be a sound purchase for you, so don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. I did when I bought this Sand Mountain vest, because til now, I've been wearing a black goat hide, pointed front vest. My highest recommendation on this garment.

I ordered this vest in Medium, which is long enough to wear with Victorian high waist trousers or modern blue jeans. This is a perfect compliment to wear with the Sable Frock Coat and Trousers, and it is dressy enough to wear with modern dark brown suit or laid-back in dark brown jeans and leather jacket. I love the extra pockets, which are deep enough to carry lots of useful items.

I am a pastor and occasionally I have an opportunity to do a service that requires a vintage Parsons outfit. I'm going to be speaking at the 100th anniversary of the Easter sunrise service at a famous rock in my city that has been used by traveling preachers since 1837. My other vest was getting a little too tight so I needed a bigger one.

I use the items that I buy from Historical Emporium for everyday wear and having access to canvas pants and vests at reasonable prices is very nice. Shipping is fast and customer service is THE best I have delt with lately.... I cannot express how happy I am overall with Customer Service for Historical Emporium. The only small drawback is that sometimes the sizes I want are out of stock at the time I want to order. I have checked back at a later date and been able to find the sizes I want, so I would advise others to be patient and check back.
