I had to appear in a morning coat suit for a formal academic event with European protocol (the men wore either their academic regalia or a morning coat suit). It turns out that the coat is not easy to come by in the US, but I was fortunate to run across the Historical Emporium's website. They had the right coat in my size in stock and shipped right away. It's a nicely made coat in exactly the right style, although the materials are modern, light weight and comfortable. I'd certainly buy from them again should the occasion arise.

Received the coat and tried it on immediately and noticed how light it was, which was a very big plus for the temperatures that we find on the middle Gulf Coast of Texas. The sleeves were about 6 inches too long, but that was good since the wife can sew (I can too, but only when I have to) and she could fit it to my arm length. Very happy with the coat so far and see no issues at this time!

We were using this jacket as a costume piece for a show. It arrived in record time which was great. We also needed an extra large size which wasn't easy to find anywhere else. The sleeves needed hemming but that 's ok better than too short. The coat was well made and can be kept for future endeavors. It looked amazing and really added to the character.

Temperatures are dropping here as Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas bells will soon be ringing. Each year in our town, we celebrate the season with downtown merchants staying open late, carriage rides on Main Street, mulled cider, chocolates, and other Yuletide frivolities with many locals in Victorian Era dress. I'm what is known as a serial kilter . Which simply means if I'm not at work I'm in a kilt. The cape I bought will be a great addition to my outfits in the winter when it gets cold here in Ohio and I'll still look stylish and look even better once I remove it. I purchased this not for historical purposes but as a layering option. We've had a few cold days so far here in southern Wisconsin, and the Inverness Cape has performed very well. It's quite warm, and though I was worried about sizing since it's a one-size garment, it fits me well. Even generously; I'm 6'0" with 34-inch sleeves and the cape falls just above my wrists and mid-calf. I've worn it over a collared shirt and over a fleece hoodie, and I'm confident that it will fit over a heavier coat as well. The one criticism I'd offer is that the front of the cowl is liable to blowing open in the wind. A button to secure the cowl in front would be a convenient addition, though possibly not historically faithful to the garment as worn originally. I might work with a tailor to add some method of securing the cowl against the wind. But that's a minor point; I would still buy this cape again and I'm quite happy with the purchase.

I purchased this to for Dickens on the Strand this December, and to take with me to Scotland but it was more than I needed for Scotland. I look forward to wearing it this winter.

I wore it together with other Emporium Clothers for the Charles Dickens Festival in Deventer, Holland. It fits perfectly, is very good material and keeps wonderfully warm. I only can recommend it

We live in Michigan and winters can get pretty bitter. My husband had been looking for an Inverness cape for a couple of years, but they’re pricey or costume-y. I stumbled on this one while trying to find the name of the style coat and was surprised to see it was made of wool…and had good reviews. This one runs about the same price as a good quality topcoat, so it wasn’t unreasonable. When he opened it, he was delighted for three reasons: 1) It fit! he’s 6’4” and broad-chested, so normal clothes are screaming for mercy) 2) It was a heavy-weight wool. This weighs more than the Swiss-issued military dress coat he has. Fits him better, too. 3) It is warm. We are at the beginning of our winter and it was too warm for him at 32°.

Honestly this is such a nice coat! It arrived in a timely fashion and looks good on stage! It’s a little heavy but that’s because I’m weak!

I wear formal Scottish attire frequently, and the Inverness is the traditional outerwear. Yours fits wonderfully, and is suitable in any weather. I do not hesitate to recommend it as an excellent value.

Possibly the favorite item I've ordered from Historical Emporium so far, this is a strong, sturdy, and warm overcoat with great style. Definitely draws attention, but doesn't look like a cheap costume coat at all. Warm, practical, and effective... kept me comfortable and dry on a recent boat tour of Prince William Sound, Alaska.

This is a great cape. Solid construction and stitching. I am planning on wearing it for conventions but it seems durable enough for frequent wear. I am Definately recommending this product and this website to my friends.

I ordered this cloak along with the Historical Emporium's Vintage Black Velvet Smoking Jacket in order to dress as the Third Doctor from BBC's Doctor Who. Worked like a charm, and I can always dress as Jack the Ripper for those more horrifying of times. I am most certainly enjoying it. The satin has a nice shine to it so the red catches the light quite nicely. A downside to my combination of clothing is that the satin slides off the velvet so I spent a bit of time adjusting it to look right, but when I did it was glorious.

Duster looks great. Fits me perfect. I wear a size 42 regular, and the medium was the right size. It also gives enough freedom for my Cowboy Action Shooting matches. I'm 5'11" and hangs right at pant cuff level.

I ordered a 2XL, which is slightly too large for me (XL is almost too small, and 2XL is too big). The jacket is very nice and very attractive, but it is very large through the shoulders. I may have to have the jacket altered for better fit (but I accepted that eventuality when I ordered the 2XL). The items I ordered arrived quickly and in good condition. I look forward to future purchases from Historical Emporium. I love the styles -- apparently, I was born at least 100-years too late.

This coat is very well made, and though not as heavy as one that is 100% wool, 25% provides an appropriate heft. The coat is perfect in every way except that I should have probably ordered a small instead of a M/L. A size large is usually what I wear, so this is what I ordered especially because "medium" was part of the description, but I should have paid more attention to the size chart. Based on the numbers presented there, a small was the recommended size. Oh well -- I'll just have to wear a vest as well as a suit coat underneath.

I am very pleased with the quality of this coat! I wish there were separate options between XL and XXL (I had to have the sleeves shortened by a tailor to make it fit better), but I still love it. Now I'm just wishing for some more cold weather so I can wear it some more! I called to place my order over the phone and the team member with whom I spoke was very helpful and informative. This was my first order with Historical Emporium, but it most certainly will not be my last.

This almost exactly as advertised. It looks great. I got the XL/2XL and it's a bit big on me (6'3", 250 lbs.) but I put a suit coat on underneath it and that halped a bit. I will probably still have to have the sleeves taken in a bit. The workmanship on it seems very well done. You will have to iron or steam it to get the wrinkles out. A good value, in my opinion.

Historical Emporium makes the finest Victorian and Edwardian style garments I've seen. This coat is no different. Their customer service is top notch as well. I've ordered from them in the past and look forward to ordering more from them in the future when finances permit.

This is a wonderful item, very high quality. Looks great. I am normally a medium, but I opted for the small and it was a good choice. A generous cut and will fit well over suits, evening wear, heavy sweaters....perfect for a stroll across the Moors! Historical Emporium is a class act!

The coat is a little long, but the hem can be picked up. I am installing five buttons and button holes on the front of the cape because the wind tends to catch the cape and blow it around.

I LOVE this coat. I purchased the coat back in the middle of September and have delayed the review until the weather was cool enough to give it a good wearing. I already own the Inverness cape in black in 100% wool and have given it a wonderful review. At the time, I mused that it would be nice if it were offered in other colors--even perhaps a nice tweed. So, when Historical Emporium unveiled their additions to their Inverness line, I was delighted. At the time of order, I felt a little trepidation. I was worried that this version was not 100% wool. I am delighted to report that my fears were baseless. The fabric has a very nice feel, similar to a soft, heavy cotton. The coat is a good weight and ideal for cool weather and roomy enough to layer underneath for cold weather. It is not as warm as the 100% wool version, but that's easily worked around. I have received several compliments on it. (I wear my Historical Emporium clothing as part of my everyday wardrobe). I am 6'1" and about 200lbs; the M/L fits me very well with room for a bulky sweater or thick sports-coat/frock-coat underneath. I love this coat and would highly recommend it. Its also a wonderful value.

I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

This Livingston cutaway sack coat is a very well made coat with an all round tailor-made look & fit's me well the sizing was spot on to my size that i ordered. This is an excellent addition to my Old West wardrobe & highly recommended as a purchase.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. The pants were not the correct size , so I think on the next order we would check more closely on the style and the sizing of trousers .Overall very satisfied with this company and it's products. When I received my order, the coat was a little too big. Big enough to drape over my shoes. I had to get it refitted at a tailor, despite ordering the smallest size available. I do not regret buying however, as the coat is of good construction and quality, drapes nicely, and fits in very well with a historical or historically-inspired wardrobe.

Fit: This garment is intended for you to be able to wear warm clothing underneath it so, it's sized bigger. If you aren't planning on layering underneath, order a size smaller. Finish: The coat appears to have been well constructed. No errant threads. Straight seams. Thumbs up! Materials: Totally decent. Better than expected at this price-point. It doesn't feel like a "expensive" tweed but a respectable one. Delivery: Much faster than promised on the website. Was it necessary? No. Was it a very pleasant surprise? Definitely. Overall, I'm very pleased with the coat and I'm looking forward to wearing it for Yuletide!

What I was looking for. Seems like it will definitely warm enough, with plenty of room for a sweater underneath if I think I will need one where I'm going. Long enough to keep the Kansas wind off my legs.

This cape is actually better than described, with very nice tweed fabric and well-sewn shape. If the fabric was any thicker, the cape would probably be too heavy to wear. As mentioned in the description, they do run large. I ordered a "M/L" size, and it is almost too big. I am usually a 46-48 inch chest for jackets and almost 6 feet tall, and I'm glad I did not order a "L/XL." A really well built cape, that I will put to work in cold, wet weather.

If you want a coat that attracts attention, this is it. There is much material (and thus much room) in the coat underneath. so it works with just a vest, or a full frock coat. The material is a medium weight - if it was heavier the coat would weigh too much to carry around. I like the material - not a super quality but close enough to a fine wool to pass, and it seems sturdy enough for good service. Be careful on a windy day - the cape can blow around.

This is a top quality coat and quite a value. I am 6' 1", around 230 lbs and the Medium/Large is just right for me (just like the sizing chart indicated). This is clearly a genuine coat for outdoor wear. Fine craftsmanship and quality material. A little heavier than I anticipated, but perfect weight for fall and winter wear. I would recommend to anyone.

My great fear was that this would be made from a cheaper, "costume-weight" fabric. When the small box arrived, my heart sank. I opened it up and could not believe how much coat you could get into such a small box! This is a real, outdoor-worthy winter overcoat for almost every locale. (I wouldn't warrant it for Chicago in below-zero January, but that's a whole different standard of human tolerance and garment expectations.) This is a very handsome coat with a most subtle gray herringbone pattern to the fabric. They do run Full and LONG - which I like, but others may want to adjust their order as some here have indicated in their comments. Full-figured fellows will want to stick with the larger sizes. This a really nice coat, it is not some cheap thrown together from overseas. It is Huge but it is designed that way to go over jackets etc. am border line L and XL. I first tried a XL and it was swimming on me. The large was a better fit if wearing alone. Historical Emporium is a very good seller, they go out of their way to make things right.
