I love it.

For a while I have been looking for a coat or jacket I could wear with my Frontier Classics old west shirts, vests and trousers for an authentic old west look. I wanted one that was dark brown to suit the brown vest, brown bow ties, brown trousers and brown cowboy hat I have. I also wanted a coat or jacket I could wash as I am not easily able to get clothes dry cleaned where I live so this coat being cotton canvas seemed perfect. I bought one of these in small. I am 5ft 7 with a 15 inch collar and 38 inch chest and the Frontier Classics shirts I have are small size and the collar on them fits me perfectly despite Historical Emporium size guide saying they fit 14-14.5 inches, so I thought the small might be the same in fit. I live in the UK so had to pay extra for shipping, which I didn't mind as I couldn't find a coat like this in the UK. It took about 2 weeks form ordering it to get it which was good When I tried it on, it fitted me well in the chest and collar when buttoned up and tits length was good too. However, I found the upper arm area of and shoulders just a bit too tight for me, especially when I moved my arms. I enquired about that and was advised I could send it back for a return or an exchange for a medium or order a medium and check the fit of it and send back the one that didn't fit. Purchased for Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly; we decided it was time to build our late Victorian costume stock by investing in a few quality pieces. Unfortunately, this jacket reads dark green, not true grey. Also it was folded for so long that there are deep creases where the shoulder padding meets the front of the jacket that I don't would come out without major steaming. I plan to exchange for a wool frock coat, assuming the 40R works for this long-armed actor; otherwise will have to use this one in black (due to the unfortunate greenish tinge of the grey cotton).

A nice looking coat but was advertised as cotton but in reality is only 75% cotton. Might get to use this if I change the buttons. Good fit though.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I could not have bought a suit for the same price. I am amazed at the outstanding customer service from historical Emporium. Looked great, fit well, terrific details on the back. Pair this with a top hat and some plaid pants and you're good to go!

Halloween 2023 is the event. Haven't decided as to how it will look or feel. Just being in disguise like everyone else. It's funny as to how many adults dress up for Halloween.

I spent many hours trying to find a frock coat close to where I live in Portland, Oregon, and came up empty. Then I went online and discovered The Historical Emporium and the Callahan Frock Coat. I measured my actor and when the coat arrived shortly after I ordered it, I tried it on him and it fit perfectly. He is portraying Harvey Scott, the long-time editor of The Oregonian newspaper, so he had to look dignified. Plus, we are filming the short play he is in, so I could not get by with some kind of cobbled together fake frock coat. I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

This Livingston cutaway sack coat is a very well made coat with an all round tailor-made look & fit's me well the sizing was spot on to my size that i ordered. This is an excellent addition to my Old West wardrobe & highly recommended as a purchase.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. Everything arrived on time for our event with the expedited shipping and the quality of the suit jacket and vest and tie were excellent! The pants were not the correct size , so I think on the next order we would check more closely on the style and the sizing of trousers .Overall very satisfied with this company and it's products. Inverness capes, and Coburn great coat. Not worn yet. But I know I want to wear different coats depending on my mood.

We attended a Murder Mystery Weekend set in 1890 and I wanted a coat for the occasion. The size was perfect and I really liked the styling. It took me less than five minutes on the website to find what I needed and order it.

Excellent coat, high quality, and perfect fit. However, it was a bit heavier than I wanted and returned it for exchange. Nice coat and had that period look and feel. A good fit for the actor I was building a period costume for who was leaving for a film shoot in Austria. The only problem I found was that the p coat buttonholes are too small for buttons. Very difficult to open and close. Since, the actor will be leaving the coat open the problem did not have to be remedied.

I love the coat. I had to take it to the tailor and have the sleeves take up but otherwise it’s perfect.

I purchased this for a costume design of Sherlock Holmes and it worked lovely! We were able to Quick Rig it on and off the actor so quick costume changes were possible. Will be buying time period stuff from here always!

I bought this to complete the outfit. I bought the matching vest and pants a few months ago. It is made by Frontier Classics, which run a little small. Incentive to lose weight!

I loved this coat when I first saw it on HE modeled with some trousers I was interested in. While I tend only to purchase natural fiber fabrics, I was very pleased with the look and feel of this blend! I was especially happy that it is a lighter/medium weight fabric than it may appear in the photos. But it's not an inexpensive feeling lightness -- it has a very nice hand. I already have long coats for cold weather wearing here in the PNW, so this one is absolutely perfect for spring, and even summer and fall. I'll be wearing it a lot! This coat is nicely constructed, and will likely hold up for my lifetime. The only negative is the plastic buttons. For me, they detract from the otherwise elegant look of this coat, but the price point for such a fine garment was very reasonable. I did replace them with some nice leather buttons, which likely would have added a lot to the shipped price, but make a big difference in the overall effect.

The size is a little small but that's OK because I wear it in lieu of a jacket and wear it open. If I was going to wear it as an overcoat I would order a larger size. Light weight for southern living.

The coat is well made and fit my husband beautifully. It was delivered in a timely fashion, much sooner than I anticipated.

I really like the Emerson Frock Coat. I usually stick to 100% cotton or wool, but this coat is a very nice blend. The material is soft and comfortable and it has the weight of an average sports coat. It seems to be the same material as the tweed Inverness coat. The flap pockets on the front are functional, not just for show. The detailing is solid. All around, this is a nice, well made Frock coat. I am delighted to have added it to my collection.

Coat is well made, fits properly and looks great on. The only negative I might offer is that the nap of the lapel doesn’t seem to lie flat. It may be tailored incorrectly but it might just need a good pressing. I haven’t had a chance to sort it out yet. At any rate good value for the money spent.

i am 5'10 3/4 i asked for suggested size figuring about a 44 inch chest- about 4 inches for under clothing vest be ok but the arms wish were inch longer and bulkier around the elbows- provided it never shrinks good for late spring early fall- lining not that great sewed in and knew from ordering be too long about 3" too long really- think the stitching be better- now it does have small front pockets fits about 4 of my fingers comfortable and wonder why anyone make coat with such small pocket- then dawned on me they are a perfect size for deck of cards and Dillinger or some small hand gun that 4 fingers could grab hold of and access without fishing around in over sized pockets- i knot sure thats the reason but does seem practical- i do like the coat but for the price idk thats kinda iffy- think if took more stitching and resized the arms yeah but i still questioning the value over cost- but it is an interesting coat and i do like it fact is wore it today- it my take mom to dr's and go to bank kinda coat- but is nice in appearance

Nice coat, well made. Too long though. Would like another button or two down the front. And a way to turn the collar up to close and button around the neck. That might be a different type of coat though.

I have been looking for years for a genuine rifle coat for years when I finally got one from historical emporium and it is absolutely magnificent. Quality of materials, workmanship, and tailoring are superb. The finishing touches on the garment are just outstanding. Can’t go wrong here!

I have coveted one of these coats for a very long time, and it took a lot of searching to find what I specifically wanted. This fits the bill exactly! You can wear it anywhere and people always comment on cool it looks. I may need another one!

Absolutely loved the Black Rifle Coat. Lightweight, comfortable and great lines. Bought mine at my size as I intend to use it as a coat, not over coat. Will now need to get another one. :) Made the mistake of wearing it to see a musical version of Calamity Jane and upstaging the actor playing Wild Bill Hickok. Love this coat.

The coat came exactly as described. I am of average height (5'9") so it is a little long (I'll take it in to be hemmed). The sizing was exact in that it runs a little large so it can be worn over a dress jacket. Exceptional service by GE. Would definitely do business with them again.

This jacket has 4-buttons and is a classic - no pockets to bulge to make you look fat but slimer. Nice feel and warm. I did have the shoulders reduced a little - I m loosing weight and muscle tone, but love it.

Bought this for my Victorian-themed wedding outfit and everyone LOVED it! It paired exquisitely with the darker grey vest I also got from Historical Emporium. The color and texture of the fabric are lovely, and it's also very sturdy - a great bonus for a formalwear garment. I'm around 230 pounds of a somewhat athletic/hefty build, and the 46 fit perfectly. I wore it all through the ceremony and all day with no desire to take it off. I could wish for some external pockets, but it does have two inside pockets, and if you're wearing a vest with it, you've already got some pockets anyway. Great purchase! It will be a mainstay of historical dress-up occasions with the other items I've bought here.

I bought this for Mark Twain Days. Lots of people dress is 1860's attire for the event. I look like I just arrived out west during the Comstock Era.

With a traditional cut lacking exterior pockets and having a separate piece of fabric for the lower part of the coat, this sleek coat catches the eye with a distinctive and classic flair. At the same time the heavy cotton, vaguely reminiscent of the early days of denim in the 1800s, is hardy and comfortable. I've received many compliments wearing it with or without the full period complement. I'll caution that it is a bit stiff at first--I had to wear it a few days before it felt more natural, as it the case with heavy cotton fabric. Most of my traditional coats are black. This is such a fun contrast.

I bought this as part of my 1880's costume. It looks and feels authentic. The only issue I have with it is its width at the shoulders. Just a little too wide, but perfect otherwise.

Finally got the right size for Husband ( my mistakes totally) We went a size up to have a layering option.

The clothing that I ordered are for a Hickory Golf Outing. I also do reenactments / rendezvous, 1800-1850. Everything that I ordered looks good and fits good.

The pants run a little tight in the waist and thighs, so I order the next size up since they have no stretch. They are not hemmed to allow for all heights.

This coat is insane. All of the reviews are real. How is this $150? Extremely high quality. Everyone will treat you differently. Buy this coat and become a god amongst men.

Fantastic coat great fit.

This is one extremely well made coat and the brushed twill feels heavy enough for some abuse but is super soft from being brushed, I've even had a drunk seamstress rub her face on it (it was super weird). Plenty warm for fall and will be used for laying in winter, may be a bit much for summer. It does have somewhat of a greenish hue under incandescents, but brown under the sun and regular lights. True to size; I'm a size 42 on tape and in my regular suits, so I ordered the same, and it fits perfectly.

Nice chocolate brown color, deep pockets, and good construction right down to the button holes. Soft cotton fabric with enough bulk to stay warm even on chilly autumn mornings.

Is a good thing but i can't wearing them it is two numbers to big. :-( But i have take the size with your instruction. resend is not a option is to expensive from swiss to usa. that's a shame.

I like this coat, I wanted one for a steampunk outfit and this fits the bill nicely. I have one small criticism and that's why I didn't give it five stars. It has no hip pockets. This may be because of historical styling, but I do find it a bit of a drawback what with car keys and the like. Still, it's a great coat and I love wearing it. The sizing is good (I did take note of the issue with US sizing since I'm in the UK) and it fits really well, looks good too.

This is an early bulletproof vest. Heavy construction fabric. I'm not sure of authenticity, but wished for an outside pocket.

Heavy, heavy coat. Good fabric. If you are from the lower half of the US you may want to save it for colder seasons. Fits well.

Coat fit perfect with fit chart. Lots of details and well constructed. Colour is exact to online photos and fabric is good quality, coat is lined. Arrived really quickly to Canada. Very pleased with the purchase.

I wear stuff like this on a daily basis, so I need it to be quality. Historical Emporium comes through every single time. The product came quickly and arrived with no damage. The fabric is very stiff, so I do recommend either steaming it, or just wearing it a lot when you first get it so it softens up. Also, it runs a little big. Maybe order a measurement smaller than you'd expect. I will definitely be buying another one of these in a different colour, eventually.
