5' 9" and 170 lbs here. Large fits great. A touch longer in the sleeves than a normal modern shirt, but the onlooker wouldn't notice. Makes it look correct for reenactments too.

I was a little disappointed in the blue Liam shirt because I also have the navy blue color which I like but the stile of the lighter blue is different doesn't seem to be the same fabric and the front down the buttons where there is a little trim piece needs another button it gaps when you sit down

Having purchased a few flannel shirts now, this one is of a much different material. It is thinner and I am hoping it will make a nice shirt for when it is warm out. Not having a conventional collar, I have found it looks very dressy while buttoned all the way up, relieving me of having to wear a tie in dress-clothes situations.

Historical interpretation

Back in the 80s I used to do a lot of Civil War reenactments and had several shirts similar to these work shirts that I was able to get from the sutlers we would buy uniforms from. I always loved the way they fit and looked but had not been able to find since them. I found these, and ordered one, just to see the quality, and how they fit. Once it arrived, I was amazed, and happy. They look great with a vest, whether I am playing music, or riding my mule! I now have one of almost every color!

I own a good half dozen of these shirts ...love the look and feel and they are very comfortable to wear. For no special occasion as I dress in this kind of shirt everyday! But then I know I was born in the wrong time anyway......

This is going to be a gift for Santa himself, AS HE LOVES THESE PUFFY SHIRTS when wearing his vest overtop of the work shirt. I believe I will be looking for a few more for next yera and the year after that.

I ordered 3 different shirts and vest/ pants. All great quality. Clothes run true to size *however* - I am barrel chested. My neck size is a 2X but I needed a 3X to fit my chest. This would not be an issue for most folks so just a note in case it does matter to you.

The shirt looks exactly like the photo. Nice fabric. I like the puffy sleeves. I have not washed it yet. I hope it does not shrink.

Plastic buttons are out of true period, but works.

Great quality

I bought both Trapper and Fundamental Work Shirts and my review/opinion for both is the same. Well made shirt. I expect it will last a very long time. Relatively thick cotton material, but comfortable and cool, not hot. I bought size Xlarge and it fit better after washing. Minor shrinking after washing but it now fits perfectly. The shirt is meant to be puffy and large, and I am very glad I bought it. Only complaint is the Trapper shirt collar is always wrinkled so I keep it unbuttoned which makes it look better and not obviously wrinkled. I could iron the collar but I am too lazy to do that. Oh and shipping was very fast. I think I got the shirts in 2-3 days.

This is my second shirt from Historical Emporium, but my first collarless. With it I bought three different collars (in the same size) and some collar studs. Quality-wise the shirt is well made and perfectly satisfactory. Ordering the right size without an actual fitting can be hit or miss, but the shirt fitted very well using the Emporium's guides to measure up. I didn't need the collar studs. The shirt has a button at back of the collar and comes with a stud at the front. Collar studs aren't visible under neck-wear, either; still, it's nice to have a set to my own taste and small items get lost, so spares are good. Wearing it - now there's a small learning curve! I hadn't had a detachable-collared shirt since the air force cadets (way back in the '60s) issued us lads mismatched WW2 uniform equipment, and mine never fitted! This shirt and the collar did, both me and each other. But how did grandpa get dressed without the help of a gentleman's gentleman? I found, after fruitless contortions, the easy way is to attach the collar by the back button, and one end of the collar to the collar stud, but leave the other end free. Pull the shirt on (it only unbuttons part way!) then do up the shirt and attached collar. Then add your period neck-wear. And a vest/waistcoat. A gentleman never wore his shirt fully exposed. Finally, wear it in public. Be ready for conversations. Possibly, ask Historical Emporium for a supply of their cards to hand out.

This shirt is the ONLY one (thus far) which possesses a Breast pocket! A feature many men require. Fits well and like the other shirts, the sleeves are just a little too long. I would Easily recommend this product to anyone!

This is a wonderful dress shirt. The size runs very true and it is beautifully made. I purchased the wing-tipped collar to go with the shirt and it looks fantastic. I wear this shirt as part of my regular rotation of shirts I wear to work. I'm planning to purchase a variety of collars, so it will be like getting multiple shirts for the price of one. I love it!

I love this shirt use it for western dress and victorian, even wear it now and then for daily dress . using the collars just makes it that much more in when dressing up for victorian or western period .

This resembles a good 19th century shirt that I use for daywear as well as formal evening attire. Had some sizing issues at the start, but Historical Emporium sent me a replacement and this time they fit better, just had my tailor have a slight hand over the collar. Since it was my first order I wasn't so familiar with the sizing table, but for my future orders I am now perfectly prepared. Will order from Historical Emporium again!

The Fairchild shirt is a very fine product; however, although I take a large shirt in the chest and arm length area, my neck is not a large. I had to take the shirt to a tailor who sewed another button hole into the collar about a half inch in from the original. I would recommend that the manufacturer do the same, thus giving the customer the option of insuring a perfect fit. Since I ordered a large stand up collar for the shirt, the tailor did the same to the collar. All in all, everything worked out fine and it goes great with my swallow tail coat, vest and homburg. My lady friend and I should make a dashing couple at the San Diego Gas Lamp Gathering this September.

Much to my surprise, I've come to the conclusion that if you only have one shirt in your Victorian kit, this is definitely the one to choose. With the detachable collars it's like having 4 shirts at bargan basement prices. The quality is definitely there, but it is the versatility that makes it stand out. A good example of this is when I indulge another Victorian fashion, a love of all things Scottish, and it's time to attend a "Burns Knicht," it fits right in with a bit of lace pined to the cuffs, and a jabard pined at the throat. Then with a change of hat, collar, tie and coat, it works for the piano recital of 1860's American music, held in a historic house of the era. I really recommend this shirt!

would have preferred a full-button front to placket and an ordinary pocket, not "western" type also had to change all buttons as needed plain white ones

This is the one shirt I thought would be the most versatile. The Fairchild looks nice and fits well. If the emporium offered shirts like the Fairchild in a variety of colors (like light blue, peach, striped etc.) combined with their attachable collars, this would be the best shirt ever. Right now it's only the best shirt.

Everything good about the shirt. The good thing about the band collar shirts is that they work so easily with bandanas. The bandanas lay just right when there is no collar in the way. All good!

Some week ago, I received my latest order, the Chocolate-colored Fundamental Work Shirt. What can I say, no loss in quality regarding this item, on the contrary in fact. The fabric feels terrific when I wear the shirt. It has a warm brown color, which actually isn't done justice in the pics online. I'll definitely order some more colors of this shirt.

Great quality, feels really nice to wear, fairly sturdy material but not heavy. Good for hot weather. Before I was a teacher I was a metal fabricator and I’d wear it for that too, although it’s a little expensive to abuse it that way. Great fit for me, tighter wrist buttons make the arms hang, lists of movement.

It's ok. I've gotten these drop sleeve shirts before from other places. Same heavy rough cotton. No shape at all just a square. For what it is, it's ok. Not a summer shirt.

1928 Roadster and like to period dress for events and occasions. These trousers, knickers, shirts etc. from Historical Emporium fit the bill. Even though they are earlier vintage, for working guys, they are still in style for the 20's, 20's and even 40"s. The fit is good and the quality high. Love the stuff! We are hosting the MAFCA 2024 National Convention at Ruidoso, NM in June and are rigging up for the festivities with new duds.

I have a big neck so when I buy a collard shirt I have to get one with a big enough neck so I'm not choking but the rest of the shirt ends up a dress. Not this one! I bought this as a kind of add-on to my order, unsure of how I'd like it. As it turns out, it is my favorite piece. Very soft, with a nice texture to the pattern, it looks stylish and smart without the need for a tie or for proper "dressing up." Paired it with a vest and Boom! Looking like a 19th Century Irish Farmer who anachronistically happens to work in an office.

Very well made. Made in Ireland! Soft heavy cotton. True to size. Hang dry these shirts, do not use hot water, warm is ok. I bought one shirt to try it out hoping it wasn't made in China. It was such high quality and comfortable I ordered two more a week after. You won't go wrong with these shirts. Comes in quite a few different colors.

I am serious. It feels so good ( wash before wear ) that you just want to wear one every day. They are cool in another way. The stains that accumulate from a few small drops of stout may stick but the effect is an increase in the character or the shirt. I liked the first one so much that I bought two more. In this shirt, you can look diesel as hell or fop about on the town. Add a waistcoat though...for decorum's sake.

I brought the shirt for an event and it needed to dye the shirt yellow, so I dyed the shirt the color I needed. The fabric took well to the dying process and looks and fits fantastic.

I really like this style, its really comfortable. But be sure to order a size larger than what you normally wear, I wear a size 17 neck and when I received my order and tried it on, it felt a little tight in the chest area, I think it had something to do with the way the shirt is sewn at the bottom of the opening, it kind of bunches up a bit. I sent it back and got a size 18-18.5 and now it fits a lot better.

I have wanted a shirt like this for several years after seeing antique ones in flea markets in France. The shirt is very well made of soft, drapey cotton. Great with leggings! I've gotten many positive comments. Very comfortable.
