First, I buy these vests for work - as the title suggests. I wear vests often for the warmth without the sleeve constriction of a full Carhartt jacket. We live on a horse farm and could well have a good number of outdoor chores and repairs any given week that would require freedom of movement. This is a good made vest. I was disappointed when I opened the package and noticed immediately that it was not a Wah-Maker brand. This vest was replacing a ten year old Wah-Maker that has finally given up it's seams and button holes. Thankfully, it seems cut from the same pattern with stout canvas as the Wah-Maker - so it fits like my old vest. A very good thing. The buttons though are not metal like the Wah-Maker - time will tell if these plastic buttons will hold up. Good pocket depth.

I am 6'1" medium build. I ordered the XL Tall. Fits perfectly. Good that it has an adjustment buckle in the back as I am slim waisted and cinched it up so it has a nice tapered look. My vest was made in Guatemala, so I am good enough with that. USA would be better, but what are ya gonna do?

I've a wardrobe for my reenactments and speaking on my war between the states persona. After being invited to participate in a Wild West event I needed a few items to adjust the look. My other vests are coat and tie ones, I needed a working man's look, this is exactly what I wanted and needed. The event isn't until the end of October and I'll be submitting photos then.

This is a sturdy well made garment. It is great for working around the property when a jacket is to much and a sweater is too delicate for the job at hand. Size seems to run a wee bit small, but may loosen up after some wear and a wash.

This vest is better than I expected in a lot of ways. It is well constructed, made of very study fabric, and of suitable length for any number of possible pairings, including wearing with kilts. This vest works well as a winter layer under a jacket, and neatly holds a scarf in place. The pockets are a little bit on the small side, but perfectly adequate to hold a pocket watch, as designed, though maybe a little skimpy for a larger sized handkerchief. I'm really pleased with this item, and am considering getting another one in black.

I was skeptical at first, but for the price I thought I had to try it and I'm very happy with it now. The fabric is stiffer than I expected, but less than the military version from the same manufacturer. The ensemble with my frock coat and my cane gives me a very gentlemanly look that I am looking for. The color is incredibly beautiful. I recommend it to you.

I recently purchased the Classic Canvas Work Vest in crimson color and was immediately impresses by it. It is probably my favorite vest now, which I own many different types of work and dress vests from the 1880's period of clothing. The materials and workmanship are of the highest quality, and the styling is really nice too. I really like the buttons used on this vest, as I am partial to metal buttons. This vest is spot on. Had to workout an exchange because I needed a tall - MEASURE THE LENGTH! You'll save yourself the trouble. Once I got this vest though I was sold. The quality is great. Nice solid canvas with a beautiful texture. It's already starting to soften and bend more easily with some wear. The buttons and back strap are all super solid. I use the items that I buy from Historical Emporium for everyday wear and having access to canvas pants and vests at reasonable prices is very nice. Shipping is fast and customer service is THE best I have delt with lately.... I cannot express how happy I am overall with Customer Service for Historical Emporium. The only small drawback is that sometimes the sizes I want are out of stock at the time I want to order. I have checked back at a later date and been able to find the sizes I want, so I would advise others to be patient and check back.

I purchased this vest in October of 2013 and 8 years later it still holds up to the test. I had to have it taken in and the tailor was surprised to work with canvas but it fits even better now than it did the day I bought it. I immediately followed up with the same vest in crimson and will be repurchasing this color again for a richer black. The black color, though faded, is still good 8 years later. All pockets are functional. Purchase with extreme confidence. I have about a 53" gut at 6'3" and the 2XT is an absolute perfect fit.

Just got the Ladies classic canvas vest in black - and it fits very well! Well made, sturdy, and a nice fitted shape with the back belt tied. I am a size 14-16, and the size 40 is a perfect fit for me. Will wear it with both my Dickens Faire costume and my Edwardian walking skirt!

I am a professional carriage driver and was looking for Victorian period clothing to wear at work. I have absolutely loved this vest. It is constructed of very high-quality material, stitching, etc. It fits me very well. I have a 43-inch chest, and the size Large Livingston vest fits me comfortably and attractively. The only consideration I did not account for was the fact that the brushed cotton material picks up the horse hair easily and I simply keep a lint-roller on-hand to deal with it. I would happily recommend Historical Emporium and this vest to others.

SO I'm ito the old west as virtually all customers who come here are, and I also like things to be rugged and heavy-duty enough to last. I also like all-black, and ONLY all-black. And finally, may your respective higher powers of choice bless mother nature's invention of pure cotton. So, with those things said, I can proudly say: I'm happy with this vest as part of my old west style regular everyday wear. I wear my old west stuff (now including this vest) while doing such ordinary things as grocery shopping at walmart once a month. I wear this vest and the rest of my all-black old west all-cotton outfit with my black wool felt low-derby hat, my cotagonal-cornered rectangular-lensed old west sunglasses, my square-toed black leather cavalry boots, my brushed stainless steel mechanical wind-up old west style pocket watch--and so on and so on-- whenever I go to town. And all criticism as to my personal style, be damned. The material this vest is made of has the twill knit of dickies work pants, but feels at least twice as heavy-grade there as, like I'd say equivalent in heavywheight density to modern day cotton duck canvas. It also feels just soft enough to feel nice, yet its texture still has the simultaneous crispness (if that makes sense to you) to also feel as-- if not far more-- durable as any Dickies-like work pants. Yet, thise vest (and now that I've sampled its fabric in person, the entire Livingston black brushed cotton clothing line sold here at H.E.) is...

I think the title says it all. It's a beautiful item that is very well put together and got to me the next day despite being told it would take much longer. I was a bit iffy about the cost, but that was until I actually had the item in hand. I do believe it worth it and will be back for a similar item in red some time soon.

This Double breasted vest is of great quality. It is tube shaped rather than tapered so gives a little more room to breath so to speak. Match your size according to the larger; belly or chest. The 36 fit for my husband who normally wears 34 pants. We paired it with two different shirts, the Virgil and Bellamy for different looks. The quality is wonderful, the customer service was 10 out of 10. I would highly recommend any products from Historical Emporium.

XXL fits larger than expected, but not drastically. Canvas feels durable. Lighter and cooler than expected. Pockets are reasonably sized and useful.

The vest is surprisingly thick and warm, and the stitching is carefully done. The double buttons are not for show but are all functional. The sizing was also perfect. I am more than pleased with the vest, obviously, and it arrived quickly after purchase.

I was underprepared for just how thick and durable this vest was going to be. It really is a thick canvas material and pairs well with canvas trousers for a formal look that is still functional for work. Do not recommend wearing this on a hot day though, it is seriously a thick fabric. The fabric is so thick I struggle to get my US Marshal badge through the fabric for my cosplay XD!

I bought this vest after being less than impressed with my 'old fashioned' vest from another retailer. I absolutely love this vest! It has a full cotton, tan back to it. The cut is great. Going for a bit of a settler look for my wedding on my side, and this one helped me hit the mark. Strong recommendation for the look and quality.
