i am 5'10 3/4 i asked for suggested size figuring about a 44 inch chest- about 4 inches for under clothing vest be ok but the arms wish were inch longer and bulkier around the elbows- provided it never shrinks good for late spring early fall- lining not that great sewed in and knew from ordering be too long about 3" too long really- think the stitching be better- now it does have small front pockets fits about 4 of my fingers comfortable and wonder why anyone make coat with such small pocket- then dawned on me they are a perfect size for deck of cards and Dillinger or some small hand gun that 4 fingers could grab hold of and access without fishing around in over sized pockets- i knot sure thats the reason but does seem practical- i do like the coat but for the price idk thats kinda iffy- think if took more stitching and resized the arms yeah but i still questioning the value over cost- but it is an interesting coat and i do like it fact is wore it today- it my take mom to dr's and go to bank kinda coat- but is nice in appearance

Nice coat, well made. Too long though. Would like another button or two down the front. And a way to turn the collar up to close and button around the neck. That might be a different type of coat though.

I have been looking for years for a genuine rifle coat for years when I finally got one from historical emporium and it is absolutely magnificent. Quality of materials, workmanship, and tailoring are superb. The finishing touches on the garment are just outstanding. Can’t go wrong here!

The coat came exactly as described. I am of average height (5'9") so it is a little long (I'll take it in to be hemmed). The sizing was exact in that it runs a little large so it can be worn over a dress jacket. Exceptional service by GE. Would definitely do business with them again.

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.

When I originally ordered it, I specified a size 42. Turns out that these run about one size too large, so I had to exchange it for a 40. No problem. Instructions were easy to follow. I repacked it with the exchange form from the website, shipped it off. Within three days, the corrected size arrived. Easy!

Bought this for my Victorian-themed wedding outfit and everyone LOVED it! It paired exquisitely with the darker grey vest I also got from Historical Emporium. The color and texture of the fabric are lovely, and it's also very sturdy - a great bonus for a formalwear garment. I'm around 230 pounds of a somewhat athletic/hefty build, and the 46 fit perfectly. I wore it all through the ceremony and all day with no desire to take it off. I could wish for some external pockets, but it does have two inside pockets, and if you're wearing a vest with it, you've already got some pockets anyway. Great purchase! It will be a mainstay of historical dress-up occasions with the other items I've bought here.

I bought this for Mark Twain Days. Lots of people dress is 1860's attire for the event. I look like I just arrived out west during the Comstock Era.

With a traditional cut lacking exterior pockets and having a separate piece of fabric for the lower part of the coat, this sleek coat catches the eye with a distinctive and classic flair. At the same time the heavy cotton, vaguely reminiscent of the early days of denim in the 1800s, is hardy and comfortable. I've received many compliments wearing it with or without the full period complement. I'll caution that it is a bit stiff at first--I had to wear it a few days before it felt more natural, as it the case with heavy cotton fabric. Most of my traditional coats are black. This is such a fun contrast.

This is an early bulletproof vest. Heavy construction fabric. I'm not sure of authenticity, but wished for an outside pocket.

I wear stuff like this on a daily basis, so I need it to be quality. Historical Emporium comes through every single time. The product came quickly and arrived with no damage. The fabric is very stiff, so I do recommend either steaming it, or just wearing it a lot when you first get it so it softens up. Also, it runs a little big. Maybe order a measurement smaller than you'd expect. I will definitely be buying another one of these in a different colour, eventually.

I bought this to complete the outfit. I bought the matching vest and pants a few months ago. It is made by Frontier Classics, which run a little small. Incentive to lose weight!

I loved this coat when I first saw it on HE modeled with some trousers I was interested in. While I tend only to purchase natural fiber fabrics, I was very pleased with the look and feel of this blend! I was especially happy that it is a lighter/medium weight fabric than it may appear in the photos. But it's not an inexpensive feeling lightness -- it has a very nice hand. I already have long coats for cold weather wearing here in the PNW, so this one is absolutely perfect for spring, and even summer and fall. I'll be wearing it a lot! This coat is nicely constructed, and will likely hold up for my lifetime. The only negative is the plastic buttons. For me, they detract from the otherwise elegant look of this coat, but the price point for such a fine garment was very reasonable. I did replace them with some nice leather buttons, which likely would have added a lot to the shipped price, but make a big difference in the overall effect.

The size is a little small but that's OK because I wear it in lieu of a jacket and wear it open. If I was going to wear it as an overcoat I would order a larger size. Light weight for southern living.

I really like the Emerson Frock Coat. I usually stick to 100% cotton or wool, but this coat is a very nice blend. The material is soft and comfortable and it has the weight of an average sports coat. It seems to be the same material as the tweed Inverness coat. The flap pockets on the front are functional, not just for show. The detailing is solid. All around, this is a nice, well made Frock coat. I am delighted to have added it to my collection.

Coat is well made, fits properly and looks great on. The only negative I might offer is that the nap of the lapel doesn’t seem to lie flat. It may be tailored incorrectly but it might just need a good pressing. I haven’t had a chance to sort it out yet. At any rate good value for the money spent.

Perfect fit! Over the years, I have many jackets/coats/suits of all different quality from 100% wool to 100% plastic and all points in between. This is one of my favorites! I am used to more pockets so that takes a bit of adjustment, but I do feel that hip pockets would have ruined the look of this coat so I'm not complaining. (besides it DOES have the tobacco pocket) The vent goes up high enough that when you sit, you don't have sit on the coat itself. I will likely buy more in other colors.

Being a docent at a local museum site, I need victorian era clothing. This frock stood out so outstanding that visitors were asking where I purchased it or was it tailored for me. The fit is amazingly perfect. Color is truly a deep burgundy and is eye catching. Material couldn't be finer and is a sturdy brushed cotton. Can't say enough superlatives about this garment. I thought this coat was made for me when I put it on for the first time. We live in the south, so I'm not really into coats, but this thing is awesome. Timeless, even though the look is a hundred years old, I can wear it with any of my existing modern clothes. I cannot stress enough, don't let the price of these garments fool you. Purchased for a wedding in Montana. Nice XL fit. Nice heavy material. It's made well. it is dry clean only but I wanted to loosen it up a bit so I through it in the dryer with a damp towel on no heat. came out ok.

I purchased this for everyday dress up and I love it. but it will take a minute to break in and if you are in a warm climate, this is not the best choice. True to the description and images. Also true to size with room for a think garment underneath if desired. Not many options out there for this style of frock. This looks better than just a costume piece

The fabric is sturdy--essentially denim. Brushed, so with the soft hand of old denim, but with the stiffness of new denim. The fit is correct to slim--for a more casual fit, maybe order one size up. I'm not wholly happy with the seems on the shoulders--they don't lay quite right, but perhaps as the garment breaks in, the folds will relax into a more flattering lay. Still, overall, a very nice coat.

As I mentioned in my review of the Livingston Black Brushed Cotton Vest (which I love), I am a professional carriage driver and I wanted some Victorian era clothing to help me look the part more. While this coat, like it's matching vest, does tend to attract horse hair rather well (which is remedied with the simple application of a lint-roller) I am absolutely in love with it. The fabric is high-quality, as is the stitching that holds it all together. I love the simple yet elegant design of the coat, as well as the handy inside chest pocket and the (very cleverly hidden) two inside tail pockets. These tail pockets were so cleverly hidden that my girlfriend and I couldn't seem to find them, though the wonderful customer service representative at Historical Emporium gladly pointed me right to their location inside the tails of the coat in the lining. This coat is also rather warm on a chilly night, but not so warm that I cannot wear it on the warmer days. I have a 43-inch chest, and I ordered this coat in a size 46. It fits me quite comfortably over my vest(s) and other attire. I would gladly recommend both the Historical Emporium and this frock coat to others!

The Callahan frock coats are the best value frock coats that the Emporium offers; I have one in each colour!

The frock coat is well made, looks good and a fair price for what it is. I am happy with the coat, but wish there were a few changes. The padding in the shoulders feels a bit too stiff and bulky, something with a more natural shoulder shape would be nice. I was also a bit disappointed with the weight of the coat. The site does state the weight clearly, so this was more built up in my head, but a coat with this design, but made of a heavy material (such as wool), would be amazing. All in all, a good coat and I look forward to seeing what other coats Gentleman's Emporium releases in the future.

The coat is nice over all, well made. But I expected(wished) more rich looking fabric. Also because of thin fabric , I can see through the metal part of covered buttons. I think it may be easy to torn. I wish that more measurements are available when purchasing.

I bought this as part of my 1880's costume. It looks and feels authentic. The only issue I have with it is its width at the shoulders. Just a little too wide, but perfect otherwise.

Finally got the right size for Husband ( my mistakes totally) We went a size up to have a layering option.

The clothing that I ordered are for a Hickory Golf Outing. I also do reenactments / rendezvous, 1800-1850. Everything that I ordered looks good and fits good.

The pants run a little tight in the waist and thighs, so I order the next size up since they have no stretch. They are not hemmed to allow for all heights.

Fantastic coat great fit.

This is one extremely well made coat and the brushed twill feels heavy enough for some abuse but is super soft from being brushed, I've even had a drunk seamstress rub her face on it (it was super weird). Plenty warm for fall and will be used for laying in winter, may be a bit much for summer. It does have somewhat of a greenish hue under incandescents, but brown under the sun and regular lights. True to size; I'm a size 42 on tape and in my regular suits, so I ordered the same, and it fits perfectly.

Nice chocolate brown color, deep pockets, and good construction right down to the button holes. Soft cotton fabric with enough bulk to stay warm even on chilly autumn mornings.

Is a good thing but i can't wearing them it is two numbers to big. :-( But i have take the size with your instruction. resend is not a option is to expensive from swiss to usa. that's a shame.

I like this coat, I wanted one for a steampunk outfit and this fits the bill nicely. I have one small criticism and that's why I didn't give it five stars. It has no hip pockets. This may be because of historical styling, but I do find it a bit of a drawback what with car keys and the like. Still, it's a great coat and I love wearing it. The sizing is good (I did take note of the issue with US sizing since I'm in the UK) and it fits really well, looks good too.

Purchased for Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly; we decided it was time to build our late Victorian costume stock by investing in a few quality pieces. Unfortunately, this jacket reads dark green, not true grey. Also it was folded for so long that there are deep creases where the shoulder padding meets the front of the jacket that I don't would come out without major steaming. I plan to exchange for a wool frock coat, assuming the 40R works for this long-armed actor; otherwise will have to use this one in black (due to the unfortunate greenish tinge of the grey cotton).

A nice looking coat but was advertised as cotton but in reality is only 75% cotton. Might get to use this if I change the buttons. Good fit though.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I spent many hours trying to find a frock coat close to where I live in Portland, Oregon, and came up empty. Then I went online and discovered The Historical Emporium and the Callahan Frock Coat. He is portraying Harvey Scott, the long-time editor of The Oregonian newspaper, so he had to look dignified.
