I love the fit and feel of this hat, and the material is authentic in fit and feel. Be aware that if you're trying to get a traditional top hat, this one's short (which is correct for the style!), much like if you were buying a bowler hat and then made it flat instead of round-topped.

In my Dickens caroling group, I've been using a more generic shaped top hat that was too tall for my overall head and frame shape. This John Bull shape is stylish and just right. It was a bit snug, but I was able to steam it and it stretched right out to fit perfectly!

I plan on wearing the hat with a Regency Tailcoat at this years Dickens on the Strand (Galveston, Texas). It will no doubt fit in well with the other Victorian era outfits at the event.

Such a waste of time and especially money. Didn't read the fine print about returns and extra costs for hat boxes because of their size.... Unbelievable. The return shipping cost $37.15 for a $75.00 hat. Never again. Won't be shopping with you any longer.

Awesome quality product!! I ordered a black John Bull top hat, and it is beautiful! The sizing was spot on, it arrived much more quickly than I imagined, and in perfect condition. Great Price and fits great. I have not worn this hat to an event yet however I can already tell you that I love this hat over the Coachman's that I have previously purchased couple of months ago. Coachman's hat feels cheaply made compared to the John Bull which is Ironic when you compare the prices.

I tend to dress archaically daily. Depending on what I'm wearing people call me: the mad hatter, Col. Sanders, Dr. Who, the Monopoly Man, the Joker, the Penguin-- the list goes on. I own several Derbies, top hats and Fedoras. I shop for clothing at thrift stores, flea markets and online. Shopping online is a gamble. I have always wanted a Top Hat. I purchased the Wahmaker Highland Frock Coat and have worn it to Court (I'm a lawyer). When it came time for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Court House, I knew I had to wear my frock coat, but wanted a quality Top Hat that didn't look cheap. I ordered the Victorian Top Hat, the quality is amazing. The hat looks very nice and I intend to wear it occasionally come Winter. If you are needing a hat for a Victorian impression, I highly recommend this hat.

I'd been wanting a top hat for many years. I kept looking for one at hat shops - most don't carry top hats - and when I would find one, they never had them in my size, the shape seemed off or the quality was really not up to par. Quality is most excellent! It is rather round while my head is more oblong but size is pretty true and I may have it steam-shaped atthe local Cowboy Shop. Would buy again.

Very nice hat, however it seems made for a very round head shape. Ny head is more of a long oval so hat was tight fore and aft but loose side to side. I did get it to fit better with a little work. Just be aware, the proper size may not fit perfectly right out of the box. Well worth the time to make it fit.

I reenact the 1840's and needed a hat to match the rest of my "Shop Keeper" look. This worked perfectly. The quality is great and the fit was just as expected.

The John Bull top hat is a great product and fits the era wonderfully. I measured as instructed and ordered the indicated size. The hat I received was slightly large but serviceable. If you want to exchange any item with Historical Emporium you will have no problem but the added shipping costs will double the purchase price of your items!

even though i measured my hat size correctly and have ordered a previous hat and it fit perfect, this one does not run true to its size. i was dissapointed that it was too large out of no fault of my own. the size that this hat states is not accurate and I'm stuck with a hat that does not fit due to the restrictions of the return policy. nice hat but the sizes are off. very dissapointing.

This hat is very well made and has a nice flair to it. I was searching for a straw top hat, like you do, and really lucked out finding Historical Emporium.

The straw is tightly and finely hand woven Panama Hat from Ecuador. The price is very reasonable. I have a Panama Fedora for which I paid over $200 six years ago and this is comparable in quality. I'll be using it for my musical stage performances in Columbia, CA this next month and for years to come. For the hot weather you can't beat a Panama. With moderate care, they last forever. I wanted a topper that was a little lower in height and this fits the bill perfectly. I really like this hat!

I purchased this hat to go with a ca. 1918 suffragette costume for Halloween. The hat arrived on time and was packaged very well. There was a strong odor (probably the dye) to the hat when it arrived, but after airing for a few days in my office the odor was completely gone. The quality is excellent in the lace, flowers, ribbon, and overall construction of the hat. It fit my 22 inch round head perfectly. I received lots of compliments on my costume for Halloween!

This hat will be a perfect compliment to my Lucille Walking Suit.

I have a number of round hats (toppers) and prefer fur felt. As such, I'm not too keen on straw hats, but wanted something for the warmer weather. I couldn't be more pleased with this hat. It is, quite simply, the completest thing -- well done!

I ordered this cap for my father, who is approaching retirement. This was a Christmas present for my dad who collects hats- he absolutely loved this one! The shipping was quicker than expected and arrived as expected. The only problem was the sizing- I had to order a medium for a size 57cm hat and I could have definitely sized down due to the nature of the hat. My dad likes it all the same- nothing a quick stitch can't fix. Will probably order another for myself or siblings!

If you do the research, even in today's acrimonious society, there is room for something of another era when gentlemen knew how to be a gentleman. Plus, if you're a wee bit shy in the hair department, it really does help to "warm up" the dome without suffocating it.

The Smoking Cap is one of two hats I purchased for my costume as Fagin in a local community theater production of "Oliver!" It looks and fits great - very comfortable. And the quality is excellent. In fact, it looked so elegant that it had to be distressed somewhat to go with the costume. But even after that, it still looks great and there is no doubt that I will continue wearing it on other special occasions in the future!

This smoking fez is just what I wanted. While it is whimsical and an 'extravagance' it brings me great joy as I wear it nightly at cocktail hour. The quality is high and the fit is perfect. If you feel the itch for something fun and good looking, scratch that itch with this fez!

I have around 18 hats for different occasions and portrayals, 3 toppers, black brown and gray and a bowler. Can't tell you how many came from Historical Emp. I'm always satisfied with the quality of all their clothing and accessories. Been shopping with them for years.

Size was not very close to what was advertised, and on the label. Hat was misshapen, this for a $95 hat, even if it was made in China.

The hat is very elegant. Got lots of complements. Looks good with steampunk goggles on them. However, the hat is not oval (head-shaped) enough. On my head, it binds at the front and back -- which is sort-of good since it has gaps on the left and right, and only only the front/back pressure is holding it on. Even so, it rocks back-and-forth, left-right as my head tilts.

This hat (like most products I find on here) is durable, yet elegant. It's reinforced quite well to retain its shape including the slight "bell" shape the brim has. It's not a bad price as well. I'd recommend it.

Hat size was a little bit bigger than expected. It was much fatter (side to side) than a normal hat, and much shorter (front to back). It fits on my head, but tents to tilt side to side. I expect I could reshape it, but haven't tried to do so yet, so don't know how that would work.

The cap looks like the pictures and it appears to be well constructed. Four stars instead of five because it arrived folded flat, leaving creases on the sides. I can probably steam them out, but I would have preferred to have received the product in a wearable state.

The hat looks great and is of good quality. I will try to put something underneath for it to fit better and not wobble on my head. The other hat I ordered was not in inventory, so had to substitute this one.
