This is a casual shirt with a simplistic, frontier style that I like a lot. The color was lighter than I expected - but this is good because I find I can wear it with all of the vests and dungarees of different colors that I have. The fit of this shirt is loose and comfy. The back stitching has a great, subtle, frontier look. Perhaps this shirt can be made in the color black? I think the style of this shirt plus the color black would give it a very dramatic look.

Shirt seems to be well constructed and fabric is quite lightweight, great for summer. It is too big however. Ordered a Large for my neck size, which is a 16, and I can fit my hand into the collar. I sadly threw away the tags and packaging before I could really try it on with the vest I bought previously, so unreturnable. It's a good shirt, nice metal buttons, but if you buy one, size down!

The shirt is very nice , The only problem is it runs Large. My husband usually wears a Large and sometimes a XL so I ordered a Large and it was huge had to send it back for a medium. Received the second one with in a week of sending it back.

I believe smaller mother of pearl buttons would have been more authentic.

Coulter shirt in natural color is excellent quality for the price. Will definitely be using this company again. Shirt is slightly roomier than expected, but is more historically accurate in that regard. Natural color is not too dark. Sort of an off-white linen color. Better than I was expecting. If you want a more fitted shirt, try ordering a size under what you usually need. I wear a medium in most shirts, but suspect that a small would still fit, even in the collar, for a more fitted appearance. Overall great shopping experience

The shirt was exactly what I was looking for. However, I wear an extra large and ordered same. Regrettably, the shirt was huge. Thank you for graciously accepting the return. Again regrettably, the shirt was not available in a large. Success, another item in a different style was ordered, shipped immediately, and the large was perfect.

Beautiful shirt.......and just as seen on the site. Fits perfectly. Yellowy in colour, and looks fantastic when worn with a mixture of browns like the Griffith Frockcoat in walnut......and the Sweeney Trousers with the Herringbone pattern. Go for a browny/ greeny / tweedy type vest with the THIS shirt, and the other types of Brown available in coats and trousers.......and you'll see what i mean. 5 stars.....and well deserved.

Great shirt

Very nice looking and comfortable shirt that is well made in a good quality cotton. Size is a bit bigger than expected, but after a cold wash and a tumble dry it shrunk to a perfect fit.

This is not a cheap replica or tuxedo shirt. It's high quality fabric and craftsmanship. Very please worth the extra money

I am into Steampunk, and this is the conclusion of attire I needed in its creation. I had several other shirts that just couldn't fit the bill for various different reasons. When I put the shirt on with my other clothes and then finally the face mask I created, the shirt gave an added debonair look that made me say only one thing. "EXCELSIOR!!"

This shirt fits true to the sizing guide and is extremely comfortable.

I needed a shirt like this with a nice crisp high collar to cement my outfit for a Victorian era party. Its a pullover, with a quarter button up. Don't worry about fumbling around with the button holes because they are perfect. Throw a cravat around you're neck and you'll look like you stepped straight out of the late 1800's. The cuffs are also pretty rigid. The sleeves run a little long but you can throw some sleeve garters on to really take things up a notch.

I love this shirt, it is all I had hoped for. The fit is right and very comfortable.

Love the shirt, the fit is great and the look is exactly what I wanted. I found out at the cleaners that it needs to be dry cleaned because it does not open up in front and can't fit on the ironing device they use. So it costs a little more to get cleaned. No biggie but something to consider I suppose.

This was a Christmas gift for my husband, so he just opened it yesterday--been wearing it ever since. He LOVES it! Perfect weight fabric, & seems VERY well constructed. Sizing is perfect for him too! bought this for an historically flavored event. i had a few positive comments on the shirt, it fit nicely, and was comfy as could be expected. i am 6', 230# but if you are bigger, order a bigger shirt ! this size won't be good for anyone larger.

I have been particularly please with the Fundamental Work Shirt in slate blue. I am a demonstrating blacksmith at a colonial historic park and this shirt fits both me and its period perfectly. The color is very, very close to natural indigo and the fit moves well for active work. At this price I plan to acquire several more.

This is a great looking shirt. The fabric is sturdy and feels nice to the touch. The color is vibrant. My husband is generally an XL in t-shirts, but we got him the 2XL based on the size chart. It fits him perfect.

I bought this for my son in laws Christmas gift. I was very pleased with the quality of the shirt, it was excellent and I am sure he will love it!

As a bigger person I am always worried about the fit on a mail order garment. This fit just fine and sleeve length was like it was tailor-made. (I generally have to have sleeve length altered / shortened in almost all "dress" type things I buy, especially any coats.) If you have extremely long arms it might not work. The material is good, thick all-cotton. This is not a costume-weight garment. This is a real shirt. Glad I bought it.

I bought this shirt twice to have a spare. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the seams and buttons. I know it sounds funny but that's the first thing I look at. It's well made and will last. The material is heavy and will do well on cool days. It's is definitely not a summer shirt, but I knew that before buying it. I'll be looking for something a little more light weight for southern AZ, but it's perfect for the "winter". It was shipped quickly and arrived in 3 days. I've very happy with the service and quality of the shirt and will be acquiring more items from them going forward.

Great shirt. Very good material. Authentic looking. It looks even better after I ironed it using Magic Sizing (don't like starch) of the Extra Crisp type, in the green can. The material takes to the iron well, easy to iron. The sizes run a little big. I am a 16 1/2 - 32/33. I picked the 16 - 16 1/2. If I loose some weight, I will have to have them taken in on the sides. Sleeves a little long too. But, they are great looking. My wife complimented me when I tried one of the two on. Great quality. I will be taking them to my vacation on a horse ranch soon. Will inform after I come back. My reason for giving it a 4 stars rather than 5 is because the colors are a bit darker than in the pictures. The navy blue looks almost black, even under the sun. The burgundy one is darker than what you see here. But that is no reason not to buy them. Really looking forward to wearing them soon.

What can be said about the functional simplicity of a white button up shirt, especially for period-accurate costumes? The shirt is high quality, the fit is nice as long as you take the time to take your measurements and order the appropriate size, and what was perhaps the most surprising aspect of this shirt: it's extremely comfortable. The shirt is 100% cotton and feels very, VERY, nice on the skin and is very breathable. Pairs well with sleeve garters and bowties as well. Overall, great!

This is a very well crafted shirt that certainly looks time appropriate. It also wrinkles as though it is. The tailoring is excellent and the size fits true to size.

I have bought Virgil Shirts in the past because they do have a left breast pocket and the overall look is very 1880's. It is big enough to wear as a night shirt as well. I had to unload previous shirts and trousers after I lost 200 pound since my last order three years back.

I am always wary of ordering clothes by mail or from the internet, but I needed a Victorian/Edwardian club-collared short, so I took a chance when I stumbled across The Gentleman's Emporium. To say the least, I'm glad I did.The shirt (of very high quality) fits perfectly (which isn't all that common as I lift weights four day/week). So why the "two perfect fits" title? Given this initial experience with the company, I'd say The Gentleman's Emporium is going to be an equally perfect fit for me. (Expect more orders.)

Looked on many other sites for rounded collars and had little luck. Gentlemen's Emporium had a great selection and the sizing recommendations were accurate. It's a great shirt.

I give mixed reviews on the Viceroy shirt. I paid $94 to have it delivered. It is a comfortable cotton shirt but that's where the complements end. The sleeves were 38" long - I needed 32". You would think for that price they would have better options for an XL shirt.

This shirt works perfectly with my Victorian costume for Community Theatre.

The size of historically cut shirts can be tricky, as the HE site does say, but it means that I have to get the sleeves shortened to fit me before I wear this. The cloth is lovely quality, and it looks great with the black stock.

I love the material and style of the shirt. Packaging was great and felt adequate (perhaps better) to protect the item from anything that fate would throw at it. I especially love the fluted chest fabric, as it looks very dashing.

I am serious. It feels so good ( wash before wear ) that you just want to wear one every day. They are cool in another way. The stains that accumulate from a few small drops of stout may stick but the effect is an increase in the character or the shirt. I liked the first one so much that I bought two more. In this shirt, you can look diesel as hell or fop about on the town. Add a waistcoat though...for decorum's sake.

I brought the shirt for an event and it needed to dye the shirt yellow, so I dyed the shirt the color I needed. The fabric took well to the dying process and looks and fits fantastic.

I really like this style, its really comfortable. But be sure to order a size larger than what you normally wear, I wear a size 17 neck and when I received my order and tried it on, it felt a little tight in the chest area, I think it had something to do with the way the shirt is sewn at the bottom of the opening, it kind of bunches up a bit. I sent it back and got a size 18-18.5 and now it fits a lot better.

I have wanted a shirt like this for several years after seeing antique ones in flea markets in France. The shirt is very well made of soft, drapey cotton. Great with leggings! I've gotten many positive comments. Very comfortable.

I liked the Laborers Shirt much better than this one. This was of a thinner material and I liked a collar much better than the mandarin look. Quality seemed ok but again in my opinion not as nice or authentic as the Laborer Shirt. If you like this style of pure white color and a thinner material than you could do worse I'd think. Just ok.

I had ordered this same item before in 2014 but H.E. has changed suppliers apparently. The original shirts were sturdy and very durable and I still wear them often. The current product quality is lighter weight, doesn't hold its shape, is poorly cut and generally shoddy. I won't be ordering again.

I purchased this shirt to have cool protection from the sun. It fit true and is also beautiful. The arms do not get tight in any position. I bought the lightweight all cotton shirt to fit loose, not snug. The front is well made, pleated and buttoned from half way up the chest. It looks like a shirt Charles Ingalls would wear on Little House on the Prarie. Very nice. Would look good in a cowboy shoot.

Has more detail, with numerous pleats on each side of the buttons in front, than shows in picture. Light weight fabric, which is good, since this is worn in summer with a vest. Size is accurate, with good length for tucking in, and long torso men.
