Amazing quality

I purchased a different pair on line and was disappointed with the quality and returned them. I ordered a pair from Historical Emp., they arrived in a timely manner and were of excellent quality and not a cheap costume piece like the first ones I received from a different Amazon Co. that were cheap vinyl China made prop.

Of all the idiotic things I added to my formal tux, these spats are the things people notice and compliment. Who knew?

They fitted well although it took some effort to button them.

I have to say when i put these on , it was like i stepped back in time . I'm impressed ! The quality is impeccable . I can't wait to wear them on new Years Eve . It being my 7th year anniversary and attending a Gatsby Party i think i will fit right in . Thanks , Joe Botticelli Ogunquit , Maine

Absolutely a quality product; however, a little difficult to button up when the old body is not as limber as it once was.

Am headed from Seattle to Grassington UK, where PBS' "All Creatures Great and Small" is filmed. The day after I arrive, the townspeople will all be dressed up in late 30s/early 40s costumes to honor the TV series. I wanted something to wear that would allow me to join in, but that was easier than a zoot suit to pack. Spats fit the bill, albeit in a rather comical way if warm weather finds me wearing them with shorts! Anyway, my plan is to leave the spats behind for my friends who live in Grassington to wear at next year's celebration. I know they'll be quite pleased with the ones I purchased,

I will be attending at least two weddings this year, as well as a college graduation. I am certainly wearing these to the weddings and possibly the graduation as well. The satin with the contrasting black buttons will raise the level of my look greatly. I expect to receive many compliments on these spats.

These are excellent. They look very fine quality. They buttoned up easily enough and looked great. I wore them to GENCON this year as part of my steampunk outfit. They are so nice I will wear them on those occasions when I want to really dress up. They do not look cheap or costume at all.

I purchased these with an "Inverness" coat. I wear them with the Victorian Tailcoat also sold by H.E. These are a little more expensive than other spats on other sites on the 'net but the quality is no comparison. These fit well, button up well & look sharp. I have the white ones which have a nice satin finish. If I decide on another colour, I will be ordering them from these folks. Their delivery turn-around is spectacular. Thanks H.E.

These are not crappy party-gimmick spats; they're high quality and look authentic.

I bought these spats to improve on the snap version I had. (I'm a bit snobbish when it comes to dressing) and these are exactly what I wanted. They look great.

My home was not within this Shop's int'l shipping location, but the hospitable staff of the Customers Service had kindly instructed me to direct the shipping address to my friend's home in Canada. Eventually the item had been brought to me safe and sound by my Canadian friend. The item itself is terrific in quality and I really hope I could do more shopping with this great Store in the future, if only they could consider expanding their int'l shipping list to include mine... I have tried the cheep ones and these are 100 times better, you get what you pay for. just the right finish for your victorian era dress.

I found my new spats to be of excellent quality and style and have taken to wearing them on a regular basis. Not just for special occasion. I may just order another pair!

My husband and I wore these spats at our wedding. Originally, I was a bit suspect, but I'm glad I overcame that feeling because they added an excellent touch to our roaring 20's/high society themed wedding. Everyone complimented them and told us that they made the outfit (we wore formal tails). The material is superb and very durable.

Although this site specializes in Victorian Era clothing, It works great for Twenties themed male formal accessories. Since Mens formal never had a drastic change. Got many complements on these spats.

The mens button spats are unsatisfactory. The stitching is terrible, & the button hole stitching is all coming loose.

I bought these white spats when I bought my grey pair. I have not gotten to wear these yet as I bought these for formal wear. I love the fabric though! Very nice looking. If the grey pair I've already worn for 2 weeks gives any indication, then these white pair will certainly be a delight!

The Spats are a great look with dark trousers and black boots or shoes. The ankle measurements provided made for a great fit.

I used the measuring guide to order and had to return. The product appears to run small. However, when you get the correct size for your foot- very snazzy!!

The material of these spats is high quality and the covered buttons make them perfect for a Great Gatsby white tie affair.

This is the third pair of spats I've purchased from the Emporium, and as always, they're quite pleasing. This time, however, I had a special project - tie dyed spats for Easter. So this review will come in two parts: General and Crazy Crafter Who Drops $30 On Spats They Might Destroy. General - lovely spats! They're made from a soft, light weight twill with satin lining. Very comfortable. I did not think until after it was far too late to call customer service and as "are these preshrunk cotton?" that they might be preshrunk cotton. (Spoiler: they're preshrunk cotton) The one word of caution I would give is that after leaving them sopping wet for 24 hours, there was rust coloured staining on the buttons. Given that these are not meant for puddle hopping this will likely not be an issue for most people, but if you do fall in a lake or some such, at least hit them with a hairdryer somewhat sharpish. I tumbled mine on low in the dryer and they came out Just Dandy. Crazy Crafter - survived being tied up and dunked in boiling dye baths repeatedly like a champ! I used RIT's Dye More line because I had it on hand, but since they're cotton, the regular RIT should do. Took the colour beautifully, not only outside, but inside as well. This means that the white satin spats would likely also dye. Don't let them sit wet overnight (see above). Tumble dry and iron on medium heat. Preshrunk cotton, so order the size you want rather than a size up. An excellent option for weddings,...

I love these! They are very well made, and the overall quality was better than anticipated. They look very snazzy on my hubby.

As with everything else I've ordered from Historical Emporium, these spats are of excellent quality. These are not costume or novelty items, they are made to be worn. I wear a 10.5 and my ankle measures just over 10" so I ordered the large to be on the safe side. They fit perfectly over a pair of wingtips, look sharp and button securely.

I got a hat, cane, and spats for my son's steampunk theme wedding. Everything was perfect.

These are so very, very high quality. They're listed as 'silver' but I feel a more accurate description of the color would be 'pearl grey'. And the sizing chart that accompanies the various spats available is absolutely spot-on. They fit as if they were custom-made. I am consistently amazed by the quality of every single item I've purchased here, and these silk spats are no exception.

I just received a pair silver jacquard spats. As part of a 1920's costume it seemed like a good add on. I am very impressed! Good material and nicely finished. Clearly, you get what you pay for. The label stated Historical Emporium so was a unique product. I am very happy with them.

The very first time I wore these I was asked, twice, where I had procured them. "I have been looking for spats like those, where ever did you find them?" Indeed, these spats are much nicer than the typical sort of spats you might find. I am quite pleased with them. These spats do not slide around or misbehave the way poorly made spats might. Note that I used the sizing advice and found it to be accurate. Measure your ankle and buy with confidence.

These spats are made extremely well and are of beautiful material! The other very important factor is that they button and unbutton easily. This pair of spats will go perfectly with my light grey business suits as I go to work in the colder months. I own 2 pairs of my Army issue black oxford shoes, and with these spats, they will complement my Alexandre London three-piece suit quite nicely. These appear to be a quality product, sewn ruggedly, made with durable material. However, I give these four stars, when they can easily have earned five. With these spats, Historical Emporium tries too hard by using wool cloth covered buttons. These, I feel detract from the look I'm trying to go for. I found some Italian 4-hole silver toned and antiqued metal buttons that are quite similar to the buttons on the herringbone spats, and have replaced the cloth buttons with these. Now, they ARE a 5 star pair of spats!

I bought these spats just before leaving for a train trip to a conference. I had complements on them all along the way and at the convention. I had a several hour stopover at Chicago Union Station and a man came up to men, said he hadn't seen spats in a long time, complimented me, and fist-bumped me. I enjoy the fact that these spats have real functioning buttons on them. My hands are a little stiff in the morning though, so I had to dig out my grandmother's button hook to button them. All part of the experience. Very awesome and I'll be buying more in the other fabrics and colors.

The product (spats) works fine and is well constructed. The problem I have is that the selection of spats is not remotely historically accurate or authentic. Polyester fabric, elastic foot strap, cloth-covered buttons; these did not exist in the heyday of spats. I have authentic spats from the period; wool felt, leather buckle foot strap, bare buttons. The problem is that I also have large feet, and the spats from Historical Emporium are the only ones I can find that fit. (Kind of like, "I know the game is crooked, but it's the only game in town.") I knew what I was purchasing, and what I purchased is well made and exactly what was described. My desire, though, would be for the product from a place calling itself "Historical Emporium" would actually be historically accurate.

I have this thing about vantage clothes and spatz are one of items that just make my year complete. Still I'm looking for military spatz for the Navy high boots ones.

These are great and add to my wardrobe for formal wear today or reenactments, mens dress needs a boost at times with something different or colorful. so have some fun with it at times and you will be surprised with all the complements you will get .

loved these shoes. caught them on sale for 1/2 price or less. ordered some spats from y'all couple of years ago. these were nearly the same thing but without the trouble of buttoning the spats. very comfortable and probably had the best shoes at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston Tx this year. just got to find some polish that matches the uppers

The shoes are great looking, but the spat area does not seem to be or look like leather. Almost looks like pleather. But still a great looking shoe.

These are going in my Airship Pirate Doctor attire, and hide a secret as they cover knee high boots I piratized and go excellently with the overall look making them look like dandy brown dress shoes, along with the Sable Brushed Trousers that complete the covering. Ordered a pair of these to dress up my Formal Hufflepuff outfit and they're great! In the past I've only be able to find cheap, vinyl costume spats which, while effective, have also been rather uncomfortable. These were much more comfortable, especially about the ankle (I have just over a 9" ankle and ordered a pair in small), and look smashing! I'm already looking at different styles and colours.

I normally wear a size 11 shoe, but when I received my original order in this size, my foot was moving all over in a too large shoe. The size 10 replacement (raising the cost with the addition shipping and return charges) was fine for size but is very stiff and the sole is not near as comfortable as other shoes I have ordered from the emporium, which I can wear all day with no pain.

This is a very attractive boot. Unfortunately, I have sent mine back for a refund. The width was just too narrow.

I feel dressed up just thinking about them. Plan on breaking them in. The pull on strap broke straight away. They offered full exchange including shipping but I declined as I had worn them a bit and it seemed a minor issue. More of an issue is how the top edge of the boot cuts in at my ankles. Perhaps it is my shape, but I think they will be fine after some wearing in.

These Boots got to me only the other morning & What a Grand delight they are they fitted perfectly if slightly tight .these boots will go with me to bloodlust ball for my Edwardian Dandy outfit then again when i go to the gangsters ball a great purchase indeed.

Package was received on time, However I was utterly disappointed with the quality and look of the shoes. The leather was already creased and it was constructed poorly and made from cheep materials. I will certainly be returning them. If you're looking for a decently maids that shoe, look elsewhere.

I saw these boots here on Historical Emporium and was astonished at once. Ordered them both in black/white and in brown. I love both pairs, the look is unbeaten. Once you manage your feet inside, you will find that the little struggle was perfectly worth it! Will order these again if they ever wear off. The sole is high quality.

These spat shoes are every bit as gorgeous as the photo. They get gasps and positive comments everywhere, However, they are really very tight and the upper is not very high quality. I had trouble getting them on (they are sized a tad small), and the rear tab broke the first time I pulled on it. I took them to bootmaker to see if they could be stretched and the answer is no. Apparently they are made of corrected leather, which is pre-shrunk. So there is no way to stretch them. Get them a size larger than you think you need. Unfortunately, I am a size 13 and that's the largest size they offer.

Love the fit and style of this shoe. The only reason I can't give it a full five stars is because there is a Blemish near the zipper on one of the shoes. It looks like a blot of black tar. It is on the white part of the shoe. I decided since it did not effect the function of the shoe, it was not a big deal, no need to return it. Highly recommend this stylish shoe of yore.

This is a quality made shoe. The size on the box was 10D. I think "D" means wide. This should have fit my foot, but it was too narrow. Called the store and they said they have nothing wider, so I had to return it. I had been concerned the "spat" portion of the shoe would not be visible below my trousers. But it was and looked great. Sorry to have to send it back

Well made, good looking spats. I use them for LARP and put them over a pair of Easy Spirit leather tennis shoes so that I can walk around on site with slightly less modern looking shoes that keep me from hurting my poor foot bones. The elastic has held up well so far (two three-day events so far) and I have gotten lots of compliments on them.

Delivered 7 days ahead of the deadline. The spats themselves are of amazing quality and seem more than durable enough for long-term wear.

As I had mentioned in a another review on this site, I found Historical Emporium [HE] while doing a Google search for "spats". There was a surprisingly large amount of info available. After looking as some sites I found HE to be the best; best in product selection, information about items, historical background about the products with the most important info being why these items were made and used to begin with. Proved to be very enlightening. I've used these spats with my regular shoes at the office to keep the cold air under my desk from getting my ankles too cold; I do have a footwarmer heating pad for my feet but the spats help to keep my ankles warm without having to wear ankle high boots. A surprisingly clever product that still has a place in the fashion/clothing world of today.

I was concerned about the sizing being different from what I was used to, but the measurement guide on the page was spot-on. They fit my shoes perfectly and don't impede me while wearing them. They fit over tennis shoes as well, giving me the ability to wear comfortable shoes without my shoes breaking the illusion of the overall outfit.
