Bottom line, our Brown Stripe Sweeney Trousers are a nearly requisite garment in the wardrobe of a 19th century mister. Worn from day up until just before dressing for dinner, you must have a pair!

Understated in a monochromatic stripe, our late 1800s period pants feature many style elements specific to the era including a high waist, button fly, fishtail back and exterior suspender buttons. Plenty of pockets including two slant pockets at the front, change pocket and one back pocket. Unlined for year-round comfort.

Cut from a comfortable blend of 70% polyester, 18% wool and 12% rayon. Imported. Dry clean only. Hemmed with a 36 inseam and available in mens sizes 2654.

Sizing Notes

As you can see from the photos, these old fashioned trousers sit higher on the body than modern pants do.

For best fit, measure your torso (in inches) just below your belly button, and select this size of trousers.

In many cases, this will be one or more size above your customary pants size.

Inseam

Our trousers come with a 36 inch inseam. If you need them shorter, you will need to have them tailored locally to your desired fit.

A lovely pair of pants
I'm very impressed with these. The material is soft and feels like quality, and the fit is perfect for me. I recommend following Historical Emporium's advice re ordering a larger size than you'd normally wear for these high-backed styles. Probably the best feature for me is the length - I'm tall, and these need no modifications at all.

Button fly problem
Wife thinks fly is open when buttoned becausethey show on outside, but shouldn't, oh well such is life when not trying on before buying, too loose too.

Just what I wanted
This pair of trousers is just what I was looking for! It looks even better in reality than it does in the pictures. If you don't like your trousers shiny, these are not for you, but I don't mind that at all! Had some sizing issues at the start, but Historical Emporium sent me a replacement and this time they fit perfectly. Also I like that they come very long so you can adjust them to your liking.

Sweeney
The Sweeney Trousers are an excellent choice if you want to edge into the Browns. The Herringbone pattern is not too intrusive on the colour.....and the one really does set the other off. As described....they do sit high, and they are comfortable to wear. I chose to wear these with my Pemberton shirt over Christmas, and they really go well together. Again.... full marks for a well designed and fitting garment.

extremely well made
These pants were super nice. Definitely not like a costume, but rather good made pants you could wear anytime.

herringbone pants
First noticed the pants in a FL Studio Theatre production. Spoke with the costume person to locate your company. Excellent quality material which hangs, fits, and feels wonderful. Thanks for a superb product. Will be back to shop again. D.

Great Quality
These trousers are of great quality. Are a bit long with a 36" inseam, but local tailoring will fix that properly. Great purchase
