The stage, the songs, the saucy costumes, Georgia Labeau loved being in the spotlight as the Golden Tassel Theater’s burlesque star. During an era when it was considered racy to catch just a glimpse of ankle on the street, the full length of her gorgeous gams were on display to ticketholders from the matinee hour through midnight, six days a week.
As the only daughter of a Baptist minister, Labeau spent her earlier years on the chorus line defending her love of singing and sashaying to a father who condemned her profession as one steeped in “coarse and smutty” sin. To this day, he continues to pray for her as she keeps kicking up her heels.
