This is a very well cut vest and very flattering on. The canvas material is high quality and it is constructed extremely well. The metal buttons are also of quality and are very attractive. They definitely add to the look of the vest. I can't wait to wear this! I'm a women's size 2 or 4 and I bought the small. Love it!!!

Just got the Ladies classic canvas vest in black - and it fits very well! Well made, sturdy, and a nice fitted shape with the back belt tied. I am a size 14-16, and the size 40 is a perfect fit for me. Will wear it with both my Dickens Faire costume and my Edwardian walking skirt!

The vest arrived and the bottom part fit but the bust was huge and distorted with a big gap at the shoulders and armpits. Because it is cut for a man who is fairly even from shoulders to bust. . I noticed that there was no bust dart as almost all ladies’ vests and jackets have to fit the female form. It would take more $10 to send it back….25% of the purchase price. I am trying to get a bust dart put it in. Unhappy. Women cannot wear a man’s vest without a bust dart because while the bust sticks out the material, it need to be fitted for the smaller shoulders and underarms. The mark of someone who is cutting a design for men, not women.

I've wanted a classy black and white striped vest for ages, so when I saw this one during the vest sale I had to snag it. At first I ordered a small, because I was having a sick, brainless moment (I'm normally a medium). Having then read some reviews on other vests that suggested this one might run small, I waited for my package to find out whether I would be calling and asking for one size up or two. I did not have to wait long at all. The small not only didn't fit, it didn't come close, so one very pleasant call to customer service later I packaged up my goof-up and shipped it back in favor of a large. The new vest is beautiful. It fits wonderfully, with the exception of a small amount of gaping at the underarm, courtesy of my nice, boyish figure. This will take about five seconds with a sewing machine to fix. Seriously, tiny alteration. Everything else, the length, the waist, you name it, is utterly perfect. I really recommend this vest. Truly. It's classic, timeless, and well constructed from sturdy fabric. If you take care of it, it will take care of you, your daughter, and your grand daughter, just the way well made clothing should.

This lovely vest was well made and economically priced, but apparently Historical Emporium cannot standardize the sizing among its individual suppliers. The size small in this vest was what I would call extra large. Customer service at the emporium is speedy, intelligent, and courteous, though, so my credit card was swiftly credited with not only the sales price but the return shipping costs. I'd be reluctant to shop here again because the return process is time consuming and cumbersome. It might be worth a visit to San Jose to try on garments before purchase, because Historical Emporium seems to stock many fine products.

I absolutely LOVE this vest. The way it looks anyway. The construction is also really nice and I'm sure it will hold up beautifully... However, I should have know, the sizing would be 'off'. I ordered an XL reading the sizing chart - which I easily fit into...but the vest does not 'fit' I can't button it. Just be aware, you might want to get the next size up.

Purchased this for my plus size friend counting on the two X size to fit. It did not. Would hate to see the "Small" if this XXl is supposed to be big. First disappointment from Historical Emporium.

this waistcoat is lovely. it has a look of both the Old West, and Victorian times. it has a nice fit, as well, and is made by Scully, a quality manufacturer of Western clothing. i got mine in size small, and it is close-fitting, yet has space to move about.

I recently wore this vest to a Victorian Tea and Dance. I received compliment after compliment. I ordered a Small, and it worked beautifully. The only suggestion I would make is for that wasp-waist silhouette, a couple of vertical darts near the bottom would give it that authentic historical look. I may add them myself later. Overall, this was a good purchase for my costuming needs.

Perfect. Great workmanship and Historical Emporium pulls out all the stops to get it to you fast! Will be doing walking tours in a Victorian town, and this vest completes the outfit.

The vest is very pretty and I got many compliments when wearing it. The only draw back is that it's not cut for a lady with 'ample endowments' and I have to leave the top buttons undone.

This is a beautiful vest. I love it! I do wish the buttons were sewn on a little better. 2 fell off when I first tried it on, so I sewed them back on and also had to sew the remaining buttons on a little bit better. Not a huge deal though. Very well made otherwise. Love the design!

The vest was a lovely rich black. It felt good when I wore it and I got a lot of compliments. The quality is excellent. I called to get the order sent faster. The person on the phone gave great service and it arrive earlier than I expected.

I have a 36" bust, so I ordered the medium. The waistcoat almost fit in the bust, but not over my ribcage. It is a very trim cut, so a large or extra large would have been better. The material was good quality and the workmanship quite good. As other reviewers have said, order at least one size larger than you think you might need, two if you are muscular.

I normally wear a 3X, and ordered this vest in that size. Although I loved the fabric and stitching quality, the vest fit like perhaps a size 16 and had to be returned. I have had this problem before with "Frontier Classic" items and have only been able to order men's and sew my own darts to feminize them. I was hoping this might work, but unfortunately WAY too small. If you are not dealing with plus size, though, you might really like this.
