A little hard to buckel

I ordered this along with the goggles as a gift for a family member. The sizing guide was perfect, everything fit and the quality of product was fantastic! Highly recommended!

I just bought a Morgan +8, so bought this (and some goggles) to motor around in. Fit is perfect, soft, and well made.

I purchased a Medium based on the size chart for a client. It was much smaller, to the point I assumed it had been mislabeled and was a Small. I returned it for a Large and that fit more like the Medium should. Otherwise it looks good, has a lot of nice details. PS they will charge you again for shipping if you do an exchange, plus you pay to mail it back to them, so that's a fairly chunky add to the cost.

So...let's just throw it out there...you might as well go ahead and purchase one, because you won't find better unless you have one custom made. The material is top quality, the stitching well done, the fit is good if you order one size larger than your hat size, the price is very good, and most people will think it's the greatest helmet they've ever seen, which is probably true. HOWEVER...if you are a history buff, this helmet is oh so close, but not quite. Overall, the design is pretty accurate, and is a good representation of WWI to 1930s helmets. To make it a really fantastic helmet and completely historical, however, three problems should be addressed. 1. The ear hole is in the wrong place (at least for me). This is the biggest problem that I could find. It should be placed further rearward and the flap made longer to cover it. You can see what I mean if you google images of original helmets. This probably won't matter to anyone else unless they plan on actually using the helmet in an open cockpit, as I do. 2. The straps are not quite right, but serviceable. The straps at the back to hold the goggles in place are buttoned and unfinished. They should either be sewn or use snaps. The keeper for the main strap after it is fastened is also too small and will probably eventually break. 3. The main buckle is a roller buckle, which wasn't invented until the 1950s. For these reasons, I knocked it down a star. I will probably modify mine by changing...

I have wanted a "leather" flying helmet since I first watched Snoopy. One of my favorite movies growing up was the Blue Max. I now have a "Leather" flying helmet that fits my pumpkin of a head.

Hello, While I like the leather and the helmet itself, I was disappointed that the rear buckle broke very easily. Luckily I do not need said buckle and will enjoy my hat regardless. Thanks, Bill

This helmet is cool and functional - wear it all the time. The detail and craftsmanship is the highest level of excellence. I was so very surprised on inspection at the over the top quality in the new world of sloppy made products.

Only one small regret about purchasing this…My husband may wear it on a date night in the fun car and yes I may have to be seen with him. Doh! Otherwise I really like the edges that have an orange tint as they match his goggles perfectly. Yep kind of regretting those goggles as well… The helmet was well made and it was nice to find something with size options.

My German helmet was too heavy to have on long hikes. Other hats are floppy so I got the Zulu helmet. Absolutely perfect. Weighs 2 oz. I did use a hat enlarger to make it more oval. And sprayed on water proof. The ones from England are too small

The chinstrap was of poor quality, and does not actually function, and even more disappointing was the general asymmetry of the helmet.

I had been looking at this hat for quite some time and finally just had to have it. My head size is 7 3/8 so it just fits snuggly. Very light-weight and appears to be very well made, just like an original I presume. I do have to agree with others that the chin strap looks "ok" and actually is functional but is not of the quality I would prefer. I'm thinking of taking the hat into a leather works shop to see what they could do. Otherwise the hat is very fun and I'm not disappointed in finally making the purchase. I also have the Safari Jacket and they go perfect together. Very sporting you know!

Living in the Florida Panhandle in the Summer, you can understand the old adage that "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun..." But some of us must be outside in the middle of the day regardless of the weather, and now I know how the redcoats were able to persevere, and conquer, from Cairo to Calcutta and the Cape... The quality, workmanship and durability of this product are only surpassed by its comfort and elan! Instead of swimming in my own sweat I am now sheltering in my own shade, and paying homage to the "Men of Harlech" in the 24th Regiment of Foot! Three cheers and a tiger for Historical Emporium! Hi, I bought this helmet by accident. I actually wanted the safari hat. I'm buying the hat to wear while driving my hot rod roadster. I'll be ordering the correct hat soon. But, I wanted to say that everyone that I've shown the Pith Helmet to says that it's really cool and that I need to get some pinstriping on it. And, so I shall keep it and have that done. I ordered this becuase I wanted to complete my uniform for U.S. Army Sun helmet during the Indian Wars period. I was immediatley impressed by the craftmanship of this item.The Vietnamese have been making pith helmets since the French colonial period. This is ready issue quality. It's made of real pith,while most other helmets are made of cork or wicker. It follows the lines of the British colonial sun helmet closely.The chinstrap though servicable can be replaced easily.Highly recommend!

I bought this to go with other items as the Egyptologist! It's original fit was for a more round head. But a little pressure on the sides, it conformed to my head and was very comfortable. It looks great and I received many compliments!

Nice helmet, but inside leather sweatband was poorly constructed and cheaply made. I later saw a similar helmet and it had a substantially better constructed sweatband that was securely attached and easily adjustable to fit the correct head size. The other characteristics seem very comparable to each other.

Very nice. Just what I expected. As a Postal worker, we have what they call 'pith helmets' for uniform wear in the summer...but they're (gasp!) PLASTIC! So, when I got mine, I started wearing it for work and have received many compliments on it. Thanks for offering this wonderful product. I've been looking for one for years. One question, though...is it possible to apply waterproofing without damaging the core?

Having looked online for some time for this style pith helmet, I found the Historical Emporium's website and made the purchase. The workmanship, styling and quality are great. I found the fit initially tight on my forehead but soaking the helmet in the water (as it's designed for), and a gentle reshaping, fixed it. I wear it daily in the desert climate of CA. The quick service was also stellar.

As a result of a big interest in British history, I have wanted a British Sun helmet like the British Empire Pith Helmet for quite some time. Now that I have one, all I can say is, it is FANTASTIC and I received it within a few days after ordering. It came in superb condition and the price was just right. Now I can imagine myself as Michael Caine or Stanley Baker in the movie Zulu. As our British cousins across the pond would say "Good show Historical Emporium. Jolly good show".

Initially I ordered the medium Leather Aviator Helmet in Black. The sizing chart was used. Anyhow, I ordered the Large which arrived quickly and fit well. I looked up the return policy and followed the directions. The return was received and credit processed in short order. On the helmet itself I found the strap buckle arrangement to be cumbersome. So I had my tailor convert the strap with velcro, added a piece to the helmet and eliminated the buckle. Works quite well.

This helmet is well made, looks great, fits well. I have one I purchased a couple years ago and use it driving our Model T Ford Speedster. I just purchased another as a gift. Beware that it now comes with a sticker on the package that warns that it may contain chemicals know to the State of California to possibly cause cancer. They don't say what the chemical is nor tell you if you are at risk if you simply wear it or chew on it. If you are giving this as a gift - decide if the receiver will have problems with that. At least it is made in Germany - which I trust way more than if it was made in China. The sticker is easily removed from the package.

This is a great hat! I wear it to ride my vintage style WW11 motorcycle with sidecar. I found the sizing to be small and had to return original order for a larger size-- but a few minutes on the phone with the staff got another one out the same day with a shipping label for the return-- so no hassle or problems with return/exchange. I have shopped here before and have always had a good experience.

After receiving aviators cap, try on was a good fit. Then came the job of buckling the chin strap with seventy year old arthritic fingers with moderate numbness. That didn’t go so good. The strap, buckle, and holes are very small. I think they could be larger without affecting the styling. A option of snaps or buckles could be a good feature. This is to replace do-rags, which in a cross wind have a tendency to blow off while riding scooter so will be put on and removed frequently. Think this will be a problem. Had one in seventys and eightys with snaps, not as nice as yours, different design, that was easier to use. Mite have to have leather repair shop remove and install some with snaps. This helmet looks very authentic and I was very happy with the price.

I had purchased a black aviator helmet prior for fall and winter driving in an open classic vehicle. The black leather gets a tick warm on high temp days. So I purchased this Faux Leather Helmet which is made out of cloth for warmer days. It is as advertised and fits quite well. So let's say if you wear a large size leather, this one will fit. Anything bigger than large it will not. Good value in my book.

Stage Mom bought this for authentic costume for Stage Son. It looks like aged leather but is cloth. It is comfortable. It appears to be very well-made. I believe it will last for many wearings. Now, if I could find a Sopwith Camel....

I know this is a really economical product from an economical source, but we were REALLY disappointed with the helmet when it was received. It is really tight (my hat size is 7-1/8) and VERY thin. I should have purchased one with some sort of faux sheepskin lining to give it some "beef". I guess I got what I paid for!!!!!

I wear safari hats when I work outside in the summer. I remain cool, and people tell me I look cool too. This is a great replacement for my old sunfari hat.

I previously purchased a brookstone safari hat and after looking on line to find a hat similar since they are not available anymore, I chose this brand because the price was higher and it was not described as a clown hat as some were, compared to the brookstone this is a Dud, it is shaped completely round which cannot be changed. If you have a ball for a head IT MIGHT FIT, BUT THE QUALITY AND FEEL IS AGAIN NOT AS GOOD AS THE BROOKSTONE.. Another example of they don't make then like they used to..This hat will not stay on my head because it is round, the brookstone sat on my head through wind and tree branches.. What else can I say.......PH

Just what I was looking for! A nice safari helmet to wear while cutting the grass. I tried the usual supplier (Amazon) when a friend asked me to find her a pith helmet. What we got was a nice enough helmet, but the adjustable headband was simply glued in, and had no sweat band. This unit has a much nicer interior, with it's two-piece band, with the outer parts being RIVETED to the helmet, and the adjustable band is able to do it's thing independently. A great hat! I'll be back to the H.E. in the future (ha ha).

As advertised, the color is fairly similar to the photo. I had one of these from Brookstone, who no longer carry them. The new helmet came stiffer than I remembered, almost laquered, but they do soften with time. My old one lasted for about 16 years before getting too floppy and worn.

I could not be more pleased with my purchase. My pith helmet is extremely lightweight and comfortable. The headband adjusts for a perfectly snug fit. I have had no issues with it blowing off. The ventilation is such that it keeps my head cool even in the midday sun. The brim keeps the sun out of my eyes without obscuring my view. Well worth the price! I highly recommend this hat to anyone!

I have a big head, which makes finding hats online a considerable and often disappointing challenge. This looked like the perfect hat for a murder mystery—description said adjustable to all sizes. Well, it has taken a good amount of stretching and squeezing, but this will work splendidly. The hat has stood up to quite a bit of manhandling. I know I'll be wearing it when summer finally gets here. A quality item. I'm very pleased with this.

I was very disappointed. It is a cheap flimsy hat. I have a small head at 6 and 7/8ths, but the hat is too small even for my head and doesn't fit well at all. It is not worth the money. I will not purchase any other items from your company.

The hat is great, but the photo makes it look kind of an off-white or eggshell or cream or something. This hat is WHITE WHITE. Bought the other one (Straw Safari Helmet - Khaki) and will be returning the white one. The Khaki one is not as dark as it's photo but not as light as the white one's photo. Just fair notice to anyone ordering this hoping for a "natural" color or off-white.
