great fit

I bought this to wear in warmer weather. The fabric is thinner, but still rugged. I shortened the legs and had my tailor use the material to make a pocket on the left hip cheek to match the patch pocket on the right cheek. I've learned the value of having more pockets, and since I wear a long rifle coat with these pants, it doesn't matter if historically accurate or not; it just makes sense to have 4 pockets. The pants fit well and look good; not overly baggy but not rock-n-roll tight either. The fabric feels like its treated for repellency; they look good with the tuxedo shirt and vest. If you're going for the "Tombstone Marshall" look, these will work well.

I like the way these pant fit, but I ordered them in size 40 waist think that they would be loose fitting like my Wranglers... I think I may have to send them back to trade for a 42" waist size...

I wear a 38" normal waist, measured where they say to and ordered the 42". It was a perfect fit, Heavy duty and made well. They are dry clean only but to loosen them up I put them in the dryer with a damp towel on a no heat setting for a bit. They are long and will need to be altered.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I could not have bought a suit for the same price. I am amazed at the outstanding customer service from historical Emporium. I even had to change my pants size day after I ordered and it was corrected and I received the proper fit.

I would have liked an option that is a staright leg to fit OVER boots with same look and cotton material.

They are wonderful they are everything i wanted but they dont fit. I got a size 38 same style from this site and they are grey and they fit perfectly not sure why these are so much smaller. Luckly im on a weightloss journey so they will fit soon

I'm 6'2 and 360lbs, and these fit great, look great (and period correct), and did not shrink in the wash too much. If anything, I might have been able to go down a size (but they'll have plenty of room for winter long underwear). The only PITA was having to hem them, since they come ridiculously long. The fabric is very thick and durable.

The people who said order a couple of sizes up were a godsend. 2-4 sizes larger than you wear is a solid suggestion. I needed more than 2 sizes from my normal; I wear a 34-36 and needed a 40 in my case. Comfy pants, tho! Very comfy. Honestly wouldn't mind having a few pants that fit like these. Also when they tell you to plan on seeing a tailor to get these hemmed, they mean it. Plan to get these hemmed for your height. I had to return my first order to get the correct size, but the return was easy and free of any hassle. Would order again, but given the quality, I probably won't need to replace these any time soon.

The only negative thing is they come in standard inseam length of 36�. Please offer other inseam sizes.

Completed my Cowboy Fast Draw outfit. I can move well in them, and they are comfortable.

There were a little smaller than the usual size, but other than that, it's great!

These seemed to run a slightly thinner fit through the legs than the cotton and canvas pants, this is fine for me. The pants are a very nice gray, lighter than most slate grays, it seems to pair well with almost any color of shirt. The pants are a quality feeling wool mix, great winter pants. The buttons are quite a bit larger than the metal style trouser Historical Emporium sells, and unfortunately I'll have to replace them for my suspenders. Overall, these are some pretty good trousers, as with everything I have bought from HE it's a well made garment and I am thoroughly impressed.

Fit right out of the box. Well constructed, material has a good weight without being too heavy. Seem very durable. Looking forward to wearing them at my next living history event. Service was great; fast shipping and right the first time. This is not my first purchase from the Emporium, and I expect there will be more.

Very, very high waist, which I like. Very long legs, but easy to hem. Heavy fabric, good for outdoors use.

I have a couple pairs of these pants in different colors. They work well for a casual look especially, but you can dress them up with a "Sack Coat" and vest if you want. Comfortable as well!

Bought some sable brushed cotton trousers in brown, but brown and black do not a complete wardrobe make. Comfortable, well constructed, a bit heavy weight, nice finish. Really, nothing not to like.

My trousers arrived quickly, and upon inspect showed excellent quality of construction and material. My only regret is that I misjudged the measurement of the waist, not knowing exactly how high it was cut. I should have added three inches, not two. However, they will fit, albeit a bit snugly, and they will look great.

I got these pants because I liked the very similar Sable pants and wanted something "dressier." They're extremely good-quality, and pair very nicely with the Livingston vest or really any outfit. Gives it a nice offset. Note, though, that until you first dry-clean them, they tend to pick up hairs and lint.

I just love all my trousers from gentleman emporium, have been riding on horseback for many many miles the last years, and they are still in one peace ;-) But this is for a victorian summer in town ;-)

These trousers fit well (follow the sizing guide). The cloth is durable but comfortable, and, with the right accessories, they are very fashionable. Great buy.

Excellent product. This is my first buy in historical clothing and at this site. They answered questions about my sizing over the phone, and it arrived in the time window they projected. Great quality, very professional and sturdy. They look great. I measured my waist at belly-button and was surprised it was almost 38 inches(Usually a 34" pants is roomy on me), so I got a size 36 and its perfect. Snug at the waist, plenty of room on the legs for bending, etc. They come extra long, so be prepared to have to take up some, but that leaves room for a cuff if that's your thing.

I really like these pants super comfortable my skin is super sensitive and these pants are no problem which really makes the difference for me. As for the fit perfect hangs really nice I have gotten multiple compliments while wearing them out regularly. I rolled the ankles but I might get the pants hemmed now because I know I like them a lot.

This is my new favorite outfit. I feel like a fancy banker or perhaps a mobster. The color is like a worn/distressed navy and the stipes add a dapper touch that accentuates my 6'3" super slim frame. The buttons match the stripes nicely. I feel as the fabric and pattern will wear well for many years. I'm a bit in between sizes, 42" chest, but the medium fits handsomely. 36" waist is my normal, stayed with 36" and they fit great. I do wish the best came in a tall option, but it covers my suspender tabs and waist strap on my trousers. I couldn't wear it with modern waisted pants, but again I'm 6'3" and 190 lbs. I have several vest and trouser sets from Historical Emporium, super excited to finally have something blue.

These pants are super classy, and high quality. I purchased them for a Halloween costume, but will be wearing them on a regular basis. I love them.

I've never been disappointed with any Historical Emporium product....until I ordered these trousers. The striping / colouring is great....but the pants are really long waisted (reaching the bottom of ribcage) and, after washing, heavily wrinkled and stiff as canvas. They'll need more than a good pressing to look good ....maybe rolling over with a steam roller! I WILL STICK TO WAHMAKER AS MY TRIED AND TRUE BRAND OF PANTS. They didn't come in humboldt stripe so I ordered this brand. Bad move. Maybe the manufacturer could consider pre-washing the material (stone-washed?) using some kind of softening agent before cutting and assembling these pants. Having washed them, I will keep them, but cut and sew them into a vest instead. Too hard and stiff for my comfort level.

Picked these up for a costume. I'm a 32W/34L. The pants that arrived felt more of a 33W and 35L. I say this without having measured a thing. Ordinarily I would have sent them back for a smaller size, but the roominess allows me to make some killer dynamic poses. So it's all good!

these pants are very well made, from a sturdy jean-like material. They are more bluish in color than the pictures show and you WILL need hemming - Unless you are 7' tall. Mine came with flat buttons (although the pictures show some ornaments on them). Also I followed the instructions and bought one size up from my normal pants size and they are quite a bit loose. But you can adjust the strap in the back - there is quite a bit of room. Overall I am pleased with the purchase - it should work quite well with the Canvas work vest I bought as well.

I was thrilled when they arrived. Ordering one size larger, as suggested, the fit is perfect and very comfortable. These high quality, durable, denim-like trousers will wear a long time, and are just the thing to wear; whether you're laying track for a railroad or heading out for the Spring Quadrille at Mrs. Huffington's, the style is perfect. I am very impressed by the construction of these trousers. Very well made. They are exactly what I had hoped they would be. For some reason, they were a little too large (I measured my waist carefully) but I had them altered and they fit like a glove, so comfortable I don't want to take them off. Definitely 5 stars!

My husband bought these for cowboy action shooting. They needed to be hemmed (as always) but they fit really well and he said they are comfortable to wear all day moving around. These have a skinnier fit than other styles.

The trousers are well made, the stitching is excellent. The advertised size 42 was a true 42. The crotch area is very comfortable. The fabric is smooth, substantial but not heavy or stiff.

This is the second time I have ordered the Ferndale Striped Trousers due to their great look and reliable quality. While they are true to size as described on the website, it should be noted that because they are cotton, they do stretch once worn and heated up by the body - similar to how jeans will stretch out once worn several times. I highly recommend these durable trousers.

the pants surprised me by being very light weight.. apparently i didn't fully read .. or they weren't described as such.... they do run smaller and rereading you need to measure your mid belly to get the right fit .. you cannot go by waist size and it does in fact say that in measuring for them SO pay attention..

I absolutely have fallen in love with these Khaki trousers. I have integrated them into my daily wardrobe, and for my body type (medium/large - "Husky" build), suspenders and trousers like these are a perfect fit. I've paired these trousers with a brown leather shoes, a light brown tweed vest, and a light blue collared shirt that has a cream and white check pattern in it for a timeless, dapper look. I would love to immediately buy 3-4 more pairs of these and add them to my wardrobe, however my size (40) is out of stock, with no replenishment date set by the manufacturer at this time. You better believe I'll be checking back for these on a regular basis so that I can buy some. In the meantime, I'm considering going to a local tailor and having a couple of pairs of Chinos made that feature the high waist, and the suspender buttons that are featured in these trousers. These are absolutely fantastic.

I ordered a size up (I'm normally 30, so I ordered a 32) and it ended up being too big, but no worries, the suspenders will hold them up just fine!

I love these trousers! I’m Normally a 30 waist but I sized up to a 32 which was recommended and they fit like a glove. Honestly I haven’t taken them off since they arrived a few weeks back. Where I live in Canada we currently have snow about knee to waist high and these pants along with a union suit have been great for these conditions. Highly recommend!

I got tired of the new skinny metro-sexual style jeans that don't hold up to a serious days work. And having regular jeans fall off my butt, even with a belt, just made the decision to find a replacement that much easier. Was recommended these by Mr. Chickadee and haven't looked back. Not only are they the same material as carhartt pants but they have suspender buttons that actually look nice. None of those old fat guy suspenders with the gator clips that look like garbage. The style of these pants is old skool. So, if you're trying to return to monke, these are it. I have gotten many compliments. My wife says they compliment the male body shape due to the high waist. I don't recommend these for "out on the town" pants. They are work pants made of canvas. Very durable. But I do have the standard cotton pants from the same company and they are very nice with a dress shirt and matching suspenders with a pair of allen edmonds. Also, as mentioned, they are the same material as carhartt. So, if your gonna wear them on a summer day, you will sweat. They are durable and thick. I wear mine mostly in the winter or if the job is gonna be really dirty. Ditch the skinny jeans and return to the classics.

There's nothing bad I can say about these pants. Right after I put them on I felt how well made and sturdy they are. Solid quality. Been wearing them for film shoots and on the daily basis. No complaints from me so far. Will try them on horseback and then will see :)

These pants are quite nice. They are definitely not "costume" material, but very well made pants. The fabric is thick and seems durable. I normally wear a size 34 pants in Levi's or slacks, but per the instructions order a size 38 and they fit just fine. The pant legs are plenty long to hem to your size. I am impressed by the quality of the garment. I expect to get years of wear out of them.

These are the best pair of pants I've ever bought. The material is top notch and the fit is perfect. One note on the fit: When you are ordering use your true waist size. If your jeans say you're a 36 that means your waist is actually about 40 inches around, so order a 40. I am not one to write reviews, but I am so happy with these pants.

I started buying these trousers for reenactments (suitable for a wide range of impressions and periods), but now I wear them all the time. I hope you stock them for a long time because they take forever to wear out. I particularly like the comfort of a "suspender" fit and the fact that the pockets are made out of the same tough material as the pants themselves. It's impossible to put a hole in them.

Can't believe this style ever fell out of fashion, so comfortable, and smart looking. I feel like a human being when I wear these pants. Perfect fit, suspenders buttons appear to be of a quality that will last, same for all the seams. Couldn't be more satisfied.

I bought this for Mark Twain Days. Lots of people dress in 1860 attire for the event. I look like I just arrived out west during the Comstock Era.

We attend the Great Dickens Faire in the San Francisco Bay area every year since 2007, with the exception of, well you know, Covid. And my husband had decided that he would like a new pair of pants so he could change up his regular outfit. Coincidentally, doing some googling, we found Historical Emporium. Even more of a coincidence it was about 45 minutes from where we currently were, in the bay area. So we called to see if we could by chance get these pants by picking them up. And the answer was yes. The most amazing customer service I think we have ever had. Not only did they take the time to make sure that this was the right pair of pants. But I think they even stayed a little bit past lunch. I bought these pants for Halloween and I love them. I had to get them altered around the crotch and the length of the pants but in all honesty I liked that they only go based off of your waist size because it makes them much more customizable for your needs.

These pants fit very well and look great. I am especially impressed with the quality of these. I also like the manufacturer did not put their maker tag on the outside of the garment. The waist size I ordered is 38, although I normally wear 35-36. Packaging and service were excellent.

The fit was great, I'm always nervous when buying mail order. This is the second pair of trousers I have bought from Historical Emporium, I'm sure it won't be the last. I do my own hemming, by hand and it was very easy to measure, cut & sew. I highly recommend your outfits to anyone interested in an accurate 19th century wardrobe.

These 19th century western trousers fit well and look great! But the standard 36 inch inseam is in need of cutting back to 28 inches or so. We're not all 6'6"!

As a cowboy action shooter, these pants will add a bit of flash to my outfits, good quality great color. Can't wait to get to a shoot with these.

These were tight. All my other pants are 40" waist, but these 40" were very hard to button closed.

The occasion was to be our county's inaugral civil war days, Muster on the Maquoketa, but our seamtress was unable to have them shortened in time. The fit is excellent and quality is good. Just would be nice if they came in standard lenghs.

Beautiful color and print. They fit well around the waist, but sadly, the legs and backside were far too baggy. These unfortunately were a return rather than a costly trip to alterations.

Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. Quality & workmanship of clothing is excellent and I expect that they will last for many years.... and Never go out of style. Thank you! I plan to order additional items in future.
