CHOOSE YOUR SIZE

Dashing bad weather style shouldn’t be a mystery. The solution is our Coburn Great Coat in Black Wool, a practical outer-garment to resist rain, sleet and snow. Step out in this coat and get clued into late 19th century style!

The main layer of the coat features five black velvet-covered buttons leading up to a matching collar; velvet also appoints the front pockets. An additional pocket is found in the interior. Attached cowl hangs from the collar and drapes around the shoulders and torso to deflect rain.

Made from 100% wool with a 100% cotton lining (torso and sleeves only). Imported. Dry clean only. Cowl falls 21 inches down the back, bottom coat hem falls approximately 41 inches, just below the knee for your average gentleman. Sizes 38-54.

Sizing Notes

This overcoat is meant to be worn over a dress coat, and so it is made very generous through the chest and shoulders.

Your chest measurement (in inches) is the size you should choose for proper overcoat sizing.

If you do not intend to wear it over another dress coat, then you will likely need one size smaller than you normally wear. Please note, however, that the shoulders will still be oversized as they are designed to fit over the shoulder padding of the regular dress coat.

Coburn coat
I like it a lot. It fits great, even over a sport coat. I wore it to the last meeting of the Sherlock Holmes Society. I have a couple of minor complaints, however. First, there should be some way of fixing the cape together at the front. I wore the coat in windy conditions, and the cape kept blowing over my head like a hood. I felt like the Grim Reaper. Even in a mild wind the cape is unstable. Secondly, the cotton lining of the sleeves offers a lot of resistance when you put your arm through the sleeves. You really have to push, and the cuffs of your shirtsleeves wind up half way up your forearm where they are tight and uncomfortable. Sleeves should be lined with rayon or something offering less friction. Third, I don't like the fabric-covered buttons. They don't push through the button holes as easily as buttons made of other materials, and I can see that they are going to fall off at some point.

Coburn Great Coat...
This is truly...a "great coat." I am very impressed with the quality of this coat. It does run on the large side so I would order the next size down from your normal coat size. Also, it is wool...so it is somewhat heavy, but very stylish and will work perfectly for the use I have planned for mine in a new show I'm putting together. Highly recommended...

Almost perfect
Style, fit, and finish of this coat are all excellent. My minor quibbles are as follows: - I found, as did others, that the pockets were somewhat under-sized. My size medium hands barely fit in them. - The wool could be a tad thicker. If it was, this would make a rather good daily wear Fall/Winter coat. - The buttons could be a might more robust. They are of rather light construction. All-in-all it's an excellent coat though.

Amazing quality
This coat, while being wonderfully warm, is light enough to wear over a suit without adding uncomfortable weight! The only possible future issue might be the fabric covering the buttons wearing off from repeated use. Easily repaired, though! I share this because I plan on getting much use from this coat! Too bad there isn't an increase in men dressing like gentlemen!

Perfect for Fred, Scrooge's Nephew
This coat was purchased for San Jose Youth Shakespeare's production of A Christmas Carol. The smallest size was a size too large for the young man playing Fred. We ordered it anyway figuring that the cape would hide it. We removed the small belt in the back (it hit him totally wrong) and the coat was perfect.

Awsome
It might not be better than a Leather duster but it comes close. Good weight with a nice lining.

perfect except the pockets could be more...
I love this coat. Its price competes with any 21st Century coat like it you can buy. It is warmer and more comfortable than any coat I have ever owned. The only complaint is that the pockets are a little small for holding gloves.

Great coat
Coat is very nice, and confortable. Its very thin, but at -2°C is still prety warm, so maby not for winter (here is winter -15°C to -30°C) but for autumn and spring very good coat. Only cons on the coat are 1. no hanging loop 2. pockets should be a bit wider (ca. 1''). Otherwise is coat fantastic and Im very happy to wear it :)

NO
so so great coat
The picture of this coat is truly awesome! The fit is exactly as I had hoped and I couldn't be happier with that. The style is nice, and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. There are a few minor things I would do to improve that, such as having a tie on the front of the cowl, which was common when these coats were popular (really helps on windy days), and I would make the outside pockets big enough to actually fit a glove in each one. The problems are with the workmanship on this. When I was talking with a friend, he said that it's a pretty good price for a costume piece. I don't usually buy things just for costume, and was looking at this or a modern overcoat in a local store. Since the price for this was only a little higher, I chose this. I would have been happier with the one from the store. This coat is definitely for costume purposes only! The main material is so thin that I can see through it. The collar and pocket tabs are of really poor quality and are already worn out. And I've only owned the coat for a few short weeks. The buttons have started falling off (and it fits me a little loosely, which I wanted). And these buttons are also wearing out! I've never seen a button do that. The inside liner only covers the top half of the coat, which a proper one doesn't do (it would cover all the way down). I will be taking this coat and having someone make me one of a similar design with decent materials, which this one is not made with. And it'll probably cost me...
