Inverness Coat – Herringbone – Gray

Fortunately for me, there was a gratifyingly cold and snowy several days which followed the arrival of the Inverness Coat: i can thus report from personal experience and real-life use that it is well-made and very warm.

Too small, I returned it.

This coat is very well made, and though not as heavy as one that is 100% wool, 25% provides an appropriate heft. The coat is perfect in every way except that I should have probably ordered a small instead of a M/L. A size large is usually what I wear, so this is what I ordered especially because "medium" was part of the description, but I should have paid more attention to the size chart. Based on the numbers presented there, a small was the recommended size. Oh well -- I'll just have to wear a vest as well as a suit coat underneath.

My order arrived quickly and I like the skirt and coat. I wore them for Halloween and received many compliments.

When I received my order, the coat was a little too big. Big enough to drape over my shoes. I had to get it refitted at a tailor, despite ordering the smallest size available. I do not regret buying however, as the coat is of good construction and quality, drapes nicely, and fits in very well with a historical or historically-inspired wardrobe.

Fit: This garment is intended for you to be able to wear warm clothing underneath it so, it's sized bigger. If you aren't planning on layering underneath, order a size smaller.

Finish: The coat appears to have been well constructed. No errant threads. Straight seams. Thumbs up!

Materials: Totally decent. Better than expected at this price-point. It doesn't feel like a "expensive" tweed but a respectable one.

Delivery: Much faster than promised on the website. Was it necessary? No. Was it a very pleasant surprise? Definitely.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the coat and I'm looking forward to wearing it for Yuletide!

This coat is more steampunk than Victorian. I needed Victorian for my impression. It also runs small. As Steampunk it is a really nice
coat.

I am very pleased with the quality of this coat! I wish there were separate options between XL and XXL (I had to have the sleeves shortened by a tailor to make it fit better), but I still love it. Now I'm just wishing for some more cold weather so I can wear it some more! I called to place my order over the phone and the team member with whom I spoke was very helpful and informative. This was my first order with Historical Emporium, but it most certainly will not be my last.

The Madeline Inverness Coat I purchased fits me like a wool glove. Cinching my waist, I could wear it as a dress in late Fall or early Winter back east. I Luv it!

What I was looking for. Seems like it will definitely warm enough, with plenty of room for a sweater underneath if I think I will need one where I'm going. Long enough to keep the Kansas wind off my legs.

I knew the coat ran big from other reviews, and it was super big. I absolutely love it it anyway, and will order more stuff really soon. We received the delivery super fast (great service).

Incredible Quality

This coat has a ton of style! Relatively lightweight- good for California winters. The sizing is SUPER helpful- normally i wear a MED but due to the chart and the tailored style, i sized up to be more comfortable with modern clothing, and it is GREAT!
If i could change ONE thing, it'd be the buttons- they are domed and solid plastic. I understand thpugh- this coat has A LOT of buttons. I will be replacing with flat metal ones to match my style.

The coat fits well and is not just a great look but keeps me warm on walks around town. The fabric is as expected and the stiching is very nice.

Just be aware that they do run large.

This cape is actually better than described, with very nice tweed fabric and well-sewn shape.

If the fabric was any thicker, the cape would probably be too heavy to wear. As mentioned in the description, they do run large.
I ordered a "M/L" size, and it is almost too big. I am usually a 46-48 inch chest for jackets and almost 6 feet tall, and I'm glad I did not order a "L/XL."

This almost exactly as advertised. It looks great. I got the XL/2XL and it's a bit big on me (6'3", 250 lbs.) but I put a suit coat on underneath it and that halped a bit. I will probably still have to have the sleeves taken in a bit. The workmanship on it seems very well done. You will have to iron or steam it to get the wrinkles out. A good value, in my opinion.

The workmanship of this coat is amazing. It is stunning!
But best of all, the customer support was fabulous. I bought this coat for my wife, and while ordering a size bigger than she told me she was, the coat was still too small for her. I called and was presently surprised by the customer service. I was able to return the coat for the right size, (2 sizes up!).

If you want a coat that attracts attention, this is it. There is much material (and thus much room) in the coat underneath. so it works with just a vest, or a full frock coat. The material is a medium weight - if it was heavier the coat would weigh too much to carry around. I like the material - not a super quality but close enough to a fine wool to pass, and it seems sturdy enough for good service. Be careful on a windy day - the cape can blow around.

Historical Emporium makes the finest Victorian and Edwardian style garments I've seen. This coat is no different. Their customer service is top notch as well. I've ordered from them in the past and look forward to ordering more from them in the future when finances permit.

This is a extremely well made coat. Good for mildly chilly weather, its a great Fall and costume coat. Only wished they made it bigger like the frock coats.

Excellently put together. The seams are clean and the material is quality. I wore it out to the mall and got countless compliments. The fit was perfect. Just follow the size chart. There are decorative buttons on the shoulders that I didn't love, but they were easy to remove with some scissors (no damage done to the coat. Just pull the extra thread it leaves behind and they come right out without leaving a hole)

So far...so good.
Awaiting first batch of foul weather for a full test...in the mean time, I'll just have to look spiffy.

I love the coat, it goes well with one of the characters I bring to life, even just for the fun of it.
