Henry Clay was born into a family rich in military history, and grew up in a strict, disciplined household. So I guess it’s only natural that he ended up as the top lawman in Creek County, with a reputation for fair dealing and harsh treatment of lawbreakers.
Marshal Parsons’ reputation was sealed when Cherokee Falls sent out a request for help and Parsons rode out alone. He returned to town with a pronounced limp, and all four Smithson brothers hogtied in the back of a buckboard.
Those Smithson boys have since met up with the sharp end of a noose, and Parsons isn’t talkin’, so we may never know what happened that hot afternoon out in the South County. Suffice to say that Creek County’s law abiding citizens rest comfortable knowing they won’t fall victim to the lawlessness that plagues other counties.
