This top hat is of a higher quality than the one I originally bought from Hats in the Belfry (and returned).

I purchased this top hat for more or less everyday wear, as I have to walk with a cane (your silver tone skull cane, in fact), and I may as well look stylish while doing so. The top hat rests very well on my head. It fits as sized. I added a few feathers to the band, and I have received several compliments when I have worn this top hat with my kilt and cane.

I own several Derbies, top hats and Fedoras. I shop for clothing at thrift stores, flea markets and online. Shopping online is a gamble. I have always wanted a Top Hat. I purchased the Wahmaker Highland Frock Coat and have worn it to Court (I'm a lawyer). When it came time for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Court House, I knew I had to wear my frock coat, but wanted a quality Top Hat that didn't look cheap. I ordered the Victorian Top Hat, the quality is amazing. The hat looks very nice and I intend to wear it occasionally come Winter. If you are needing a hat for a Victorian impression, I highly recommend this hat.

I'd been wanting a top hat for many years. I kept looking for one at hat shops - most don't carry top hats - and when I would find one, they never had them in my size, the shape seemed off or the quality was really not up to par. During this past summer, I was fortunate enough to work as an actor on season 2 of the hit Taylor Sheridan TV show 1923. Wardrobe had put me a period 3-piece wool suit and topped it off with a brown Derby/ Bowler hat. My wife saw the wardrobe picture and commented on how good it looked on me, then for my recent birthday, bought this Derby for me. I'd got the Black Velvet "plain" Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap ("plain" meaning no embroidery on the side) because I wanted a warm cap to wear "indoors" during winter. I wear sweaters and turtlenecks indoors so that I can keep the thermostat turned down, reducing my heating bill. However, I still suffered from a cold head! I had pull-overs, toques, knit stocking caps, and a bunch of other, regular, outdoors winter-wear lids. But I had nothing even remotely "Ritzy" to wear indoors. The other stuff made it look like I'd just come in from checking he mail, or something--- not like something I had intentionally worn indoors! The smoking cap's ideal! It's also a good bit like Dumbledore's "casual cap," (which I'd also considered; rejecting it because it was made too small for me!) but less "ornate." The Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap also special in that the "XL" version fits me; and I usually take a 7-7/8 or "XXL" hat or cap! I like the Harry Potter series; but being in my 60s, it behooves me to avoid dressing exactly like Dumbledore! (Yea, sure; the kids & grand-kids would love it, but it might cause talk!) So I split the difference, buying a cap that only slightly resembles a "wizard's cap." I'm happy, the kids are happy, and the rest can hop it! However--- I hope that the Historical Emporium has an ample supply of these, as they're great for "customizing" into fancier versions with glued-on trim & piping, braid & brooches, for the costumes of "Dumbledore Wannabes!" Decided to snag it as a good hat for slightly colder weather, not only is comfortable and simple but was able to add a nice band to the crown myself with minimal effort.

Nice looking western hat. Bought big size and adjust it down with the internal adjustment. Big size allows scarves and hoods in winter. Bought for naturalist role at Colorado State Park, but like the hat so much will probably use it as my main hiking hat.

I love my smoking hat. I bought it to go with my 1983 Mercedes 240D that is the same car used in Marrakesh for taxis. It's perfect for keeping my head warm while looking cool, and won't blow off if I roll the window down. It's a much nicer quality than I had imagined. It arrived in 2 days which surprised me, so fast!

We keep our house at 60 degrees during the winter and it can feel pretty chilly at times. My older husband has lost a lot of hair and had been wearing a winter knitted cap in the house. I just couldn't stand looking at the dopey thing anymore. Pirates of Penzance is one of my favorite movies and I remembered the Major General wearing that smoking cap & robe so I went looking online. I found this smoking cap at the Historical Emporium, got his approval and ordered the purple one. It took him a couple days to get used to wearing it (he felt silly) but I liked it right away. Later, a met a male friend of mine for lunch and he was wearing a hat. He said he'd just gotten a haircut and his head was cold so I told him about the smoking cap. He immediately asked if it was the kind with the tassel...like Groucho Marx! So, there are probably a lot of guys out there with cold heads who would be interested if they weren't afraid of looking silly. I hope you can start a trend with this practical solution for those saving a little money on the heating bill!

Halloween

This hat was perfect for a costume based on Bram Stoker's Dracula. Although I look nothing like Gary Oldman, my costume did and that made me perfectly recognizable to most at our annual Halloween bash. Only those who were too young or hadn't seen the movie had no clue. And, even if I hadn't gone that direction, the classic costume, including the Victorian Top Hat were amazing. (classic costume not included)

Ordered these for costumes for Victorian Carolers. They just looked wonderful and the gray really popped from the background. Highly recommended, the quality was fantastic and fit well. Just terrific.
