I had to appear in a morning coat suit for a formal academic event with European protocol (the men wore either their academic regalia or a morning coat suit). It turns out that the coat is not easy to come by in the US, but I was fortunate to run across the Historical Emporium's website. They had the right coat in my size in stock and shipped right away. It's a nicely made coat in exactly the right style, although the materials are modern, light weight and comfortable. I'd certainly buy from them again should the occasion arise.

Received the coat and tried it on immediately and noticed how light it was, which was a very big plus for the temperatures that we find on the middle Gulf Coast of Texas. The sleeves were about 6 inches too long, but that was good since the wife can sew (I can too, but only when I have to) and she could fit it to my arm length. Very happy with the coat so far and see no issues at this time!

We were using this jacket as a costume piece for a show. It arrived in record time which was great. We also needed an extra large size which wasn't easy to find anywhere else. The sleeves needed hemming but that 's ok better than too short. The coat was well made and can be kept for future endeavors. It looked amazing and really added to the character.

Duster looks great. Fits me perfect. I wear a size 42 regular, and the medium was the right size. It also gives enough freedom for my Cowboy Action Shooting matches. I'm 5'11" and hangs right at pant cuff level.

My chemistry students loved me in this lab coat! One of the school colors was red and this made a really bold statement!

I am very pleased with the quality of this coat. The cotton fabric is very substantial without being bulky or uncomfortable. It is well constructed and I know I will be able to wear it for many years. The only thing I would change is the number of button holes on the adjustable tabs on the back of the coat. There are two buttons but only one button hole. I would love to see 3 or 4 button holes to allow for more adjustments. I ordered the 3XL and it is very roomy which I like, and again I would like the ability to have more adjustments to the back. I paired this with a red top hat, black gloves and a glowing jar around my neck. I got so many compliments at the Edwardian themed party I attended. Red always makes a statement.

For only needing this as a costume it kept me warm while running around. I went with a size larger than recommended and it fits me perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to do a Dr. Horrible cosplay or even a mad scientist costume.

This is a real garment, not a cheap costume. It buttons up all the way and the size and sleeves fit just right. The red color is great.

This does look great, but please note it is quite warm if you plan to wear it indoors, you need to watch you do not get overheated since it does button up to the neck.

The labcoat is incredible. I know it will be able to take a lot of abuse and last. I cant wait to get another one in black, which is what I originally wanted. However, the red is an amazing color and i am glad i got it.

It is hard to tell the quality with just a picture but this item is indeed well made, I am a big guy so I ordered the XL/2XL and when I received it and trued it on it fit perfectly. The material is a nice weight not light like some cheaper versions very durable. It was a little more then I wanted to pay but it is worth the price, I am very happy with this item

I ordered this for myself for a dr horrible costume. Since I am a 5'8 female this came to the floor. I had to make some alterations to make it work for my needs. The quality is great, decent fabric. Not thin and flimsy at all. I'd recommend this item to anyone looking for a lab coat to use for any reason!

I purchased this for myself for a Dr. Horrible cosplay. It fit a bit bigger than expected, but I am a female instead of male. Nothing a little sewing can't fix. I wore this at Alamo City Comic Con with a tank top and shorts underneath, since it was long enough you didn't need to see the pants and was quite comfortable.

This coat is very well made, and though not as heavy as one that is 100% wool, 25% provides an appropriate heft. The coat is perfect in every way except that I should have probably ordered a small instead of a M/L. A size large is usually what I wear, so this is what I ordered especially because "medium" was part of the description, but I should have paid more attention to the size chart. Based on the numbers presented there, a small was the recommended size. Oh well -- I'll just have to wear a vest as well as a suit coat underneath.

I am very pleased with the quality of this coat! I wish there were separate options between XL and XXL (I had to have the sleeves shortened by a tailor to make it fit better), but I still love it. Now I'm just wishing for some more cold weather so I can wear it some more! I called to place my order over the phone and the team member with whom I spoke was very helpful and informative. This was my first order with Historical Emporium, but it most certainly will not be my last.

This almost exactly as advertised. It looks great. I got the XL/2XL and it's a bit big on me (6'3", 250 lbs.) but I put a suit coat on underneath it and that halped a bit. I will probably still have to have the sleeves taken in a bit. The workmanship on it seems very well done. You will have to iron or steam it to get the wrinkles out. A good value, in my opinion.

Historical Emporium makes the finest Victorian and Edwardian style garments I've seen. This coat is no different. Their customer service is top notch as well. I've ordered from them in the past and look forward to ordering more from them in the future when finances permit.

This is a wonderful item, very high quality. Looks great. I am normally a medium, but I opted for the small and it was a good choice. A generous cut and will fit well over suits, evening wear, heavy sweaters....perfect for a stroll across the Moors! Historical Emporium is a class act!

The coat is a little long, but the hem can be picked up. I am installing five buttons and button holes on the front of the cape because the wind tends to catch the cape and blow it around.

I LOVE this coat. I purchased the coat back in the middle of September and have delayed the review until the weather was cool enough to give it a good wearing. I already own the Inverness cape in black in 100% wool and have given it a wonderful review. At the time, I mused that it would be nice if it were offered in other colors--even perhaps a nice tweed. So, when Historical Emporium unveiled their additions to their Inverness line, I was delighted. At the time of order, I felt a little trepidation. I was worried that this version was not 100% wool. I am delighted to report that my fears were baseless. The fabric has a very nice feel, similar to a soft, heavy cotton. The coat is a good weight and ideal for cool weather and roomy enough to layer underneath for cold weather. It is not as warm as the 100% wool version, but that's easily worked around. I have received several compliments on it. (I wear my Historical Emporium clothing as part of my everyday wardrobe). I am 6'1" and about 200lbs; the M/L fits me very well with room for a bulky sweater or thick sports-coat/frock-coat underneath. I love this coat and would highly recommend it. Its also a wonderful value.

I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

This Livingston cutaway sack coat is a very well made coat with an all round tailor-made look & fit's me well the sizing was spot on to my size that i ordered. This is an excellent addition to my Old West wardrobe & highly recommended as a purchase.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. When I received my order, the coat was a little too big. Big enough to drape over my shoes. I had to get it refitted at a tailor, despite ordering the smallest size available. I do not regret buying however, as the coat is of good construction and quality, drapes nicely, and fits in very well with a historical or historically-inspired wardrobe.

Fit: This garment is intended for you to be able to wear warm clothing underneath it so, it's sized bigger. If you aren't planning on layering underneath, order a size smaller. Finish: The coat appears to have been well constructed. No errant threads. Straight seams. Thumbs up! Materials: Totally decent. Better than expected at this price-point. It doesn't feel like a "expensive" tweed but a respectable one. Delivery: Much faster than promised on the website. Was it necessary? No. Was it a very pleasant surprise? Definitely. Overall, I'm very pleased with the coat and I'm looking forward to wearing it for Yuletide!

What I was looking for. Seems like it will definitely warm enough, with plenty of room for a sweater underneath if I think I will need one where I'm going. Long enough to keep the Kansas wind off my legs.

This cape is actually better than described, with very nice tweed fabric and well-sewn shape. If the fabric was any thicker, the cape would probably be too heavy to wear. As mentioned in the description, they do run large. I ordered a "M/L" size, and it is almost too big. I am usually a 46-48 inch chest for jackets and almost 6 feet tall, and I'm glad I did not order a "L/XL." A really well built cape, that I will put to work in cold, wet weather.

If you want a coat that attracts attention, this is it. There is much material (and thus much room) in the coat underneath. so it works with just a vest, or a full frock coat. The material is a medium weight - if it was heavier the coat would weigh too much to carry around. I like the material - not a super quality but close enough to a fine wool to pass, and it seems sturdy enough for good service. Be careful on a windy day - the cape can blow around.

This is a top quality coat and quite a value. I am 6' 1", around 230 lbs and the Medium/Large is just right for me (just like the sizing chart indicated). This is clearly a genuine coat for outdoor wear. Fine craftsmanship and quality material. A little heavier than I anticipated, but perfect weight for fall and winter wear. I would recommend to anyone.

My great fear was that this would be made from a cheaper, "costume-weight" fabric. When the small box arrived, my heart sank. I opened it up and could not believe how much coat you could get into such a small box! This is a real, outdoor-worthy winter overcoat for almost every locale. (I wouldn't warrant it for Chicago in below-zero January, but that's a whole different standard of human tolerance and garment expectations.) This is a very handsome coat with a most subtle gray herringbone pattern to the fabric. They do run Full and LONG - which I like, but others may want to adjust their order as some here have indicated in their comments. Full-figured fellows will want to stick with the larger sizes. This a really nice coat, it is not some cheap thrown together from overseas. It is Huge but it is designed that way to go over jackets etc. am border line L and XL. I first tried a XL and it was swimming on me. The large was a better fit if wearing alone. Historical Emporium is a very good seller, they go out of their way to make things right.

This is a nice jacket for the money spent, and a unique style that you can't find anywhere else. The material is nice, but not quite as heavy as other wool jackets I own, and I am disappointed that it does not have any interior breast pockets. It does not have a "bi-swing" back, but since I got a "size larger", I will be able shoot while wearing it. This will be nice jacket to wear when shooting with the Vintagers and our old side-by-side shotguns.

I had my eye on this coat for some time and cheap as I am I could not resist when it went on sale, (sorry HE!), but the wait was well worth it! I absolutely love "old style" clothing because it has such great character. This coat is no exception. Love the styling and the fit is spot on. I almost ordered an Extra Large because I'm tall and sleeves are an issue at times but the regular Large fit just fine while still roomy enough to layer underneath for those really chilly days. Historical Emporium has the best selection of items of any store I have seen. The prices are alway reasonable and shipping is always expeditious. This is not the first time I have purchased items from HE and I dare say it won't be the last!

We had to return this item due to size issues. A large was much too large, and we were reluctant to exchange for a medium. The fabric was a little rough, though attractive enough. Overall it was stiff, not as soft as I would like. But, still a nice jacket, and hard to find. Decently cut.

I’ve not had a chance to wear my Livingston Sack Coat yet due to the warm temperatures but I’m glad I went for this instead of the slightly longer cutaway style,Not dismissing the aforementioned as a possible future purchase though. I think that when I can consistently wear it, It will soften up nicely and ‘Give’ a little. I will try to wear it when I don’t need to take too much of what I would term ‘Inside Pocket Clutter’ as I think any bulging would affect the shape,style and cut of the garment. I bought this coat/jacket because I needed to fill a gap in my wardrobe. I have plenty of frock coats and fancy vests, but not a lot of practical everyday stuff. I was a bit worried about getting the size right, as it's slim fit and I'm slightly overweight. But it turns out to be perfect in size 46, all that's too big is the sleeves which need taking up, as per usual. I don't really need to button it up, but I can at least do up the first one which is all that's required. It's a coat you can dress up or down. It looks good with vintage or modern style, and to the untrained eye it just looks like an ordinary business jacket or something similar. But once you start wearing nice waistcoats and ties, people start complimenting you on how dapper you look, et cetera. You start to become more noticeable. It's best worn with bowties, I think. It really completes the look, and is less intimidating. I wear brightly coloured ones as the outfits I wear with this end up being very dark on their own. It also looks vaguely reminiscient of Winston Churchill's iconic outfits, so it might be suitable for cosplay purposes. One thing I will say, is that as with any brushed cotton coat or jacket, it's a lint magnet, and it attracts dust and detritus all over. Especially in solid black. So it's a good idea to brush it regularly, if not every day you wear it. Overall, it's a great coat and essential if you have any ambitions to wear vintage styles every day. I was in general pleased with this coat ,however the stitching on the back ,is as a Frock Coat therefore slimmed down ,whereas a Sack Coat should be a DrapeBack Box Shape.The button Holes I found were too small for the buttonsI bought a size 42 though my English size is 40,so bearing on mind the slim nature of the cut a size 44 would have been better

I've always had a difficult time finding clothes in the style that appeals to me. Then I found Historical Emporium and ended up buying 12 items within a week. The fit and quality is outstanding on every item, and they're in a earlier style that I like much more than modern, suits or sports jackets that are heavily tailored and I find generally uncomfortable. Anywhere I go, wearing the Sack Coat and corresponding pants, vest, puff or 4 in hand tie, I get huge compliments from people who want to know where to find similar clothes. Look at the picture of the sack coat and gray Fletcher vest (which I also bought) and you're looking at pure class. Add a watch chain and you're all set. I'll be a repeat customer, for many, many more years.

Beautiful Sack Coat. Love the styling and the many compliments received. Rich texture, deep black color and the coat size is "true to fit." Wish there were additional dark color options like a navy blue or burgundy.

I love this coat. It is cut differently than today's coats. The shoulders are wide with a little padding. It allows you to move. And unlike today's coats/jackets, the waist isn't huge. It is cut slim. The brushed cotton is heavy and just feels luxurious. I am thrilled with coat and will wear it frequently.

A quality coat with accurate sizing & authentic styling. Low shine cotton fabric is perfect for the look and comfort I wanted. A little watch pocket might have been nice, but no real complaints. I'm very pleased.

I have several Norfolk jackets in pure wool (some bespoke and some off the peg). I have always wanted a Norfolk suit but they're pretty uncommon now except if you go the bespoke route. When I saw Historical Emporium's offering I snapped it up in my size hoping that 'L' would be right and it was just about perfect. I'll need my tailor to adjust the sleeve length (like on any ready to wear jacket) but it fit just right. It'll join my other Nofolks quite proudly.

After much searching (on & off for years!), I finally found something on my husband's Wish List - a Gray Wool Norfolk Jacket with all the authentic details. This one is it! Beautifully tailored with a great cut, and all the amazing details, including a generously shaped notch collar. It fits him perfectly and will be used for real clothing wear, not a costume - he loves it!

I first came to Historical Emporium only recently. I was looking for something in a classic style that I could wear formally; something that was eye-catching but not out-of-place to where I live. I took one look at the Norfolk jacket and fell madly in love with it. I mean, come on, just look at it. It's gorgeous. In the 30 days that I've owned it, people have given me only the nicest compliments for how it looks, especially as a substitute for a modern dress jacket. The only downside to the jacket, though it isn't much of one, is that it does get a little hot to wear in rooms and vehicles with the heaters running. I've returned my original purchase for a smaller size (M/L). At our House of Frankenstein party this October, as the host, I want to be there as Dr. Frankenstein. I may have to make some changes like adding "V. Frankenstein" and changing the black buttons for white.

Quality of sewing is not very impressive, not well finished and pretty cheap quality. Not impressed with the manufacturing so it would be hesitant to purchase anything else.

I really like this lab coat. Nice, heavier fabric, sturdy buttons and overall solid workmanship. What keeps it from a five star review are two things - both related to the collar. First, I have now given up on Historical Emporium collared tops because everything I have ever ordered with a collar is at least two sizes too large around the neck. This lab coat is unfortunately no exception to that pattern. I wear a 16.5 in collared shirts, so I do not have a toothpick neck, and ordered a M/L size for this coat. Great fit everywhere except at the collar, which is at least an inch and a half big on me. The second ding is the collar height. It's way too tall. This is a style choice that I should have noticed before ordering, but I assumed/hoped that the collar would be the same height as every other Howie coat sold elsewhere. It's not. Ironically, if the collar height were lower, the collar sizing issues I mentioned earlier wouldn't be a problem because the garment collar would only come up to the base of the neck, like a mock turtleneck, instead of mid-neck like this one.

This is not the first one of these I've bought. The ones I have for myself have held up over several years of occasional use. This was for my niece's "white coat" ceremony, now that she has proven herself in the family ranks of super geniuses.

I am 5’7”, 195lbs. I ordered the med/lrg. It is big. I knew it would be long after reading the reviews and expect it to be loose but it is BIG. I feel like a child in my dad’s shirt. I’ll attempt to talk my partner into some alterations for a better fit. All that said, this is a nice lab coat. Heavy fabric, much better than a costume piece. It does have a chemical/plastic smell, I believe from packaging or storage. If adequate measurement were added I’d give this 5 stars. Overall nice product.

This coat was a little big on me and required some refitting on the edges, even after ordering a small. If you are also a small guy, make sure to consider that. It looked great and was perfect for halloween and will be used for many years!

6'2" and 220 lbs here. The Medium/Large fit really nice except for some short sleeves. Cosplay has gloves so this is actually a plus. The XL/2X fit like a circus tent - definitely for a plus size fella or someone who wants to do their own tailoring. Everything else is as expected. Super thick fabric.
