I wear this for Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War meetings and functions. I thought the price was a bit high, but the vest is nice and fits good.

Probably the nicest vest that I've bought from HE (so far). Beautiful fabric and the buttons are metal (brass, I think, compared to another vest which has fabric-covered plastic buttons). Fits well, a bit on the generous side which is fine.

It was just what I had hope. I love it. Everybody thinks I am a throw-back to the civil war.

So much more than I expected! I thought my other Frontier Classics vests from Historical Emporium were tops, but this one stands out. Large vests are to snug on my belly, extra larges is what I wear with the adjustment belt in back snugged up some, but the Buchanan vest is just right in extra large. Smooth fit and looks great as an Indian wars era cowboy action getup. This vest will also see action on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings.

This vest is definitely a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. There is just enough wool in the fabric to give it the proper feel. The fact that it is self backed makes it perfect for use without any type of jacket or coat. On top of that it is decidedly comfortable to wear! I purchased this with one very specific use in mind, which required the stand up collar, and Navy Blue was exactly what was needed for the Tartan it was to be worn with. But now that I have it, I'm finding that it works quite well in many other ways. It will be seeing a great deal of use year round. This is definitely worth the extra bit of time that a special order requires.

The material feels substantial and is really high quality but it is not too hot despite it's thickness. I wore it with a puff tie and dress shirt in low 80s for pictures and while officiating a wedding near Jackson and it was very comfortable the whole time. The unique look and metal buttons get a lot of compliments and the double breasted style looks formal even without a jacket. I am 5'11", 165 and the regular M fit very well. The length is longer than the average vest which really helps it to look great without a jacket.

Bought this with the possibility of sending it back if it wasn't a quality item. When I received it I was impressed with the delivery packaging and the quality of the vest. The workmanship was very good, it was very comfortable and the sizing was great. I ordered a 'Tall' as I like a longer vest and it worked perfectly for me.

I have wanted this beautiful Rathbone vest from Historical Emporium for a long time, and finally purchased it. It fits and looks great, like everything I have from this wonderful company. It is part of their gray herringbone series, which I have been collecting. I have my eye on a few more wonderful garments from this collection. Highly recommended.

I recently purchased the Grey Herringbone Vest, complete with the Norfolk Jacket and matching trousers. What a great outfit! My arms are just slightly too short for the jacket, but the rest of it fit really well. I can't wait for slightly cooler weather so I can step out in all of it, either for the museum work that I do here in Toronto, Canada, or just for a regular occasion to catch attention. I've bought a lot from Historical Emporium in the past year, and have enjoyed all of it.

I have always had trouble finding a vest that is long enough, and Historical Emporium has what I need. This vest is long, and I didn't even get the tall version. Also, I like this material blend - it looks like wool, and that is the point. The herringbone pattern adds to the effect. All in all, a fine vest to wear to the opera.

Readers; Here is a review from a retired Historical Tailor who has made MANY vest &tc for this, and other, eras, so let wisdom guide your judgement of my Review. NOW! A bit of use of the vest background. I wished a vest to go with my green/grey smooth tweed kilt coat I recently bought. A vest for a kilt must be cut with square fronts, and not points. It is better if its a bit longer than the common lot of vests. So, I studied ALL the vests on the H.E. site and settled on the "Rathbone Vest". It came in good time. I scampered into my bedroom, changed into my kilt, and tried on the vest. Now begins the review of the Item. The length is perfect for a kilt. The material is very good quality(I am also a weaver)and well made. The vest has the TRUE double breasted fashion! Both sets of buttons have holes, so that it can button to either side. Very High Marks for that. Near all double breasted vest/coats Do Not have this historically correct feature. The armscrye {i.e. the hole for your arm to pass thru the vest- is made a bit more open than the originals, but its acceptable for an 'off the rack' reproduction. The all important neck line was made aright. There is no gap between the shirt collar and the vest collar. A vest, made right, shares the same cut of the collar line that the shirt has. The lapels are cut with understanding, and lay well and EVEN, left to right. The vest reveal[the part left open above the last button] is correct for the era. Pockets well...

Excellent quality and fit. The pockets are deep and can accommodate a nice sized pocket watch. It goes down farther over the waist than some of the other styles, fully covering the belt, and the collar is slightly higher. I have bought several vests from these folks and they have all been excellent, but this one looks like it is going to be a favorite.

I'm building a small 1800's wardrobe. This is not my first purchase from the emporium nor my last. Commenting on this same subject before, I reiterate the ease, and accommodation, resolving size issues that invariably occur with clothing impossible to try on before purchasing, that makes these people a pleasure to deal with. I'd purchased a different style of vest at an earlier date in a specific size that fit great. This particular vest was purchased in the same size. It was too small. Both vests were satisfactory in quality most acceptable. They were NOT the same brand and NOT manufactured in even the same country of origin. This issue is unavoidable regardless of vendor choice. This happens. Not only was the item exchanged quickly but I paid no shipping for the exchange. That's damn good service in anyone's language!

I'm a tall guy and a big guy , and have always had problems finding vests that I am comfortable in and that even look like they fit. They almost always feel to short in length and there is always too much space between the bottom of the vest and the waist of my pants . I bought this vest in the 3XT , and even though they were a special order and took a few days longer to get , when it arrived it fit PERFECTLY .

I bought this vest after being less than impressed with my 'old fashioned' vest from another retailer. I absolutely love this vest! It has a full cotton, tan back to it. The cut is great. Going for a bit of a settler look for my wedding on my side, and this one helped me hit the mark. Strong recommendation for the look and quality.

The last night of a planned overseas vacation, we will be celebrating our anniversary at a fairly posh restaurant in London. They absolutely require men in long sleeves and would like a tie and jacket. Not wanting to lug a jacket all over England, I purchased this herringbone vest for him. With dress pants and a bold tie, the vest turns from Old West to English Country Gentleman. We are pleased with the construction and the color.

This vest and many others we’ve purchased are for my handicapped brother. He is slightly obsessed with the period clothing and loves your Victorian products! With his handicaps, I greatly appreciate the vests that are machine washable- not just wool options. He has shrunk a few rather expensive ones :(.

Excellent fit! Bought the whole suit. Had the trousers hemmed and cuffed by a local tailor, very happy with it all. coat and vest are perfect fits. Good material, wish it would be just a slight bit thicker but overall pleased. Finally a nice suit!

After much searching I found the perfect vest here. Fits well and is very well made. I gave gotten several vests from other places, and that is not the case. I couldn't have asked for better than I got here. And I will definately order a couple more!

My second vest of this style (outgrew the first, it's still in good shape). Quality of everything I have bought from Historical Emporium is excellent. After ordering I learned I would need it earlier than expected and standard shipping might not work. I called customer service to see if I could upgrade to expedited shipping. Customer Service looked up my order and assured me it would arrive on time with standard shipping, in fact it arrived a day earlier than expected. They could have charged me the extra shipping fee and I would have never known the difference. It is so nice to do business with an honest company that offers great products.

Love this vest. It's been hard for me to find a vest that will fit. I'm 5'9" and wear a 2xlt shirt due to having a bit longer torso. I just wish it was available in more colors..I wear it to church and any occasion that calls for a more formal attire...

Made just a little big width. I will have to take it for alteration. It is a nice authentic vest for any occasion.

The lighter weight but woolen mix makes for a good semi-formal wear. Added a modern point collar shirt with a tie and collar clip for a routine bread and butter outfit. Cut and collar were perfect.

I tend to grit my teeth if I have to spend more than $50 for a vest, but I've got to admit it's very well made. Quality material and stitching. So much so, that after I received the double breasted herringbone vest, I was so impressed with it that I bought the single breasted herringbone vest as well.

I originally ordered the wrong size, but returned it for the right size. All just using the website information. As for the vest, it is real nice and looked good with my black suit and tie. I have purchase other items from your company and have never been disappointed with any of my purchases.

This waistcoat is beautiful made and fits my son like it was made for him. It is very reasonably priced and we will definitely be ordering again, my son has a very long wish list.
