Love it! Quality of the fabric and styling are excellent! Great crossover piece with a classy touch for my favorite looks -- can go from formal to casual depending what it's combined with. Something I can wear to work, church, and downtown. The rounded bottom hem works nicely for displaying a fancy belt buckle. The Large size is slightly big for my 44" chest, but the adjustable buckle in the back makes it work, sizing is comfortable without buttons straining. Love the four front pockets, plenty of options for storage. The color is better described as brown/black, not brown/navy. The darker stripe is a soft black, not a blue tone. Love the brown/black stripe as it is, coordinates with more of my shirts/pants/jackets than the brown/navy would. The vertical stripes give a subtle slimming look.

I intend to wear the vest in several upcoming event as a living historian

Bought this and the matching Ferndale Striped spats to complete my patent medicine salesman 'living history' persona and am 1000% pleased with the fit and appearance. I ordered the whole suit; Frock coat, pants, vest and spats. Great quality. I'm 6'2" 215lbs and the XLs are a little on the large size, but I'll be getting them tailored. Not sure if the large would have done it, so not a big issue. LOOKS GREAT. Good weight to the fabric.

Seems great. Haven't tried to wash/clean it yet but the quality is nice. Trust the tape measure. I couldn't bring myself to order a size large as 100% of my wardrobe is XL. Ended up having to exchange it. I think I could have even fit a medium. Trust the tape measure procedure they give you. Also, go a size up on the pants as suggested. The Ferndale combo looks pretty sweet.

I wear this for Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War meetings and functions. I thought the price was a bit high, but the vest is nice and fits good.

Probably the nicest vest that I've bought from HE (so far). Beautiful fabric and the buttons are metal (brass, I think, compared to another vest which has fabric-covered plastic buttons). Fits well, a bit on the generous side which is fine.

Top notch vest! Looks great as indian wars era cowboy action gettup. Quality product very well made. Looks so good I'm wearing it on sundays also. I wear XL in canvas vests to fit shoulders then they fit my belly loose, but the cut on this vest is perfect.

So much more than I expected! I thought my other Frontier Classics vests from Historical Emporium were tops, but this one stands out. Large vests are to snug on my belly, extra larges is what I wear with the adjustment belt in back snugged up some, but the Buchanan vest is just right in extra large. Smooth fit and looks great as an Indian wars era cowboy action getup. This vest will also see action on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings.

This vest is definitely a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. There is just enough wool in the fabric to give it the proper feel. The fact that it is self backed makes it perfect for use without any type of jacket or coat. On top of that it is decidedly comfortable to wear! I purchased this with one very specific use in mind, which required the stand up collar, and Navy Blue was exactly what was needed for the Tartan it was to be worn with. But now that I have it, I'm finding that it works quite well in many other ways. It will be seeing a great deal of use year round. This is definitely worth the extra bit of time that a special order requires.

This vest pairs nicely with the Fairbanks Striped Trousers I purchased on the same order. As a 6' 2" 240lb man with both a "pot belly" and a colostomy bag (cancer survivor) to hide, the straight edged bottom of this vest is EXACTLY what I needed. The more typical notched bottoms on most vests often exposes excess shirt material blousing out. Exactly what the vest is intended to conceal. The cut of the vest is also a bit sliming without acting like a male girdle like so many "fitted" vests. I am very pleased with the quality. One of the few items I've purchased online that doesn't seem like it needs the buttons to be re-attached with "good" thread.

Fits perfectly, elegant, everything as advertised. I do really like it. My only issue is that there were a couple others I liked more, and really anted to have instead, but they didn't come in a larger size. With that said, this one is great. Thanks

I'm building a small 1800's wardrobe. This is not my first purchase from the emporium nor my last. Commenting on this same subject before, I reiterate the ease, and accommodation, resolving size issues that invariably occur with clothing impossible to try on before purchasing, that makes these people a pleasure to deal with. I'd purchased a different style of vest at an earlier date in a specific size that fit great. This particular vest was purchased in the same size. It was too small. Both vests were satisfactory in quality most acceptable. They were NOT the same brand and NOT manufactured in even the same country of origin. This issue is unavoidable regardless of vendor choice. This happens. Not only was the item exchanged quickly but I paid no shipping for the exchange. That's damn good service in anyone's language!

I'm a tall guy and a big guy , and have always had problems finding vests that I am comfortable in and that even look like they fit. They almost always feel to short in length and there is always too much space between the bottom of the vest and the waist of my pants . I bought this vest in the 3XT , and even though they were a special order and took a few days longer to get , when it arrived it fit PERFECTLY .

I bought this vest after being less than impressed with my 'old fashioned' vest from another retailer. I absolutely love this vest! It has a full cotton, tan back to it. The cut is great. Going for a bit of a settler look for my wedding on my side, and this one helped me hit the mark. Strong recommendation for the look and quality.

Just got the Ladies classic canvas vest in black - and it fits very well! Well made, sturdy, and a nice fitted shape with the back belt tied. I am a size 14-16, and the size 40 is a perfect fit for me. Will wear it with both my Dickens Faire costume and my Edwardian walking skirt!

Bought this striped vest for a Night Circus themed party so everyone needed to wear black and white with a shock of red. As always, these particular vests go with everything. Comfortable, they go with any costume be it Western, Victorian, Steampunk or Modern formalwear, it is the "goto" vest. I was thrilled by the texture and trim, and the purple color really shows up great on stage. It is very well made. ...just wear this waistcoat and see what happens! The photo doesn't adequately show you exactly how vivid this waistcoat is - and boy, is it vivid! The purple leaps out at the eye and provides an excellent contrast against a black suit (I wear it with a Victorian cutaway frock coat and Livingston brushed cotton trousers) and a white shirt. Like all of the other Bonaventure waistcoats, the velvet has a lush texture, the colour is of an impressively deep and rich lustre, and contrasted well with the offset black trim (in both colour and texture) and the bright antiqued buttons. It is a very handsome addition to any gentleman's wardrobe, and comes very highly recommended. The only way you won't make an immediate impression on entering a room while wearing this waistcoat is if everyone in the room is asleep, or if all the lights are off. Mind you, in the latter instance, the purple is so vivid I'd be surprised if it didn't glow in the dark...

Truly loved the look and is ideal in many ways. At the same time, the velvet feels a bit cheap. Perhaps using a cotton velvet could make it stand up better and look richer. But I am sure you know best. All the same, it is a minor matter and have already bought four more in other colors.
