i am 5'10 3/4 i asked for suggested size figuring about a 44 inch chest- about 4 inches for under clothing vest be ok but the arms wish were inch longer and bulkier around the elbows- provided it never shrinks good for late spring early fall- lining not that great sewed in and knew from ordering be too long about 3" too long really- think the stitching be better- now it does have small front pockets fits about 4 of my fingers comfortable and wonder why anyone make coat with such small pocket- then dawned on me they are a perfect size for deck of cards and Dillinger or some small hand gun that 4 fingers could grab hold of and access without fishing around in over sized pockets- i knot sure thats the reason but does seem practical- i do like the coat but for the price idk thats kinda iffy- think if took more stitching and resized the arms yeah but i still questioning the value over cost- but it is an interesting coat and i do like it fact is wore it today- it my take mom to dr's and go to bank kinda coat- but is nice in appearance

Absolutely loved the Black Rifle Coat. Lightweight, comfortable and great lines. Bought mine at my size as I intend to use it as a coat, not over coat. Will now need to get another one. :) Made the mistake of wearing it to see a musical version of Calamity Jane and upstaging the actor playing Wild Bill Hickok. Love this coat.

The coat came exactly as described. I am of average height (5'9") so it is a little long (I'll take it in to be hemmed). The sizing was exact in that it runs a little large so it can be worn over a dress jacket. Exceptional service by GE. Would definitely do business with them again.

I got this Duster to replace a duster I got here a couple of years ago.
The old one was allways tight across the shoulders and arms. I am 5ft 9 170 lbs. And wear a size 42 jacket.
The first Duster was a medium. And the new one is a large. It fist better across the back / shoulders. So a 42 seems to be the transition between medium and large.
The canvas seemed to be a lighter weight. But giving it a wash and though the dryer. It now feels as sturdy as my old one.

I bought this, a black cowboy hat, black canvas waistcoat and a sheriff badge for a look I was going for, aside from the badge I wore the outfit to the cinema to see the phantom of the opera and I got a few compliments and not only that I've never felt more like myself wearing these clothes!

Everything I have bought form Historical Emporium has been outstanding, authentic and makes GREAT stage clothes for our 3 time music award nominated Southern Rock Band Deacon Stone!! The only tricky part is getting the sizing right. Yes they have charts, but even then it's difficult to gauge (Usually end up getting them too big and then have to buy a second item smaller) which I guess in good for them LOL!!

I wasnt expecting much but it is very well made. Its a thick canvas and heavy-duty stitching. I put a waterproofing spray befor its first use. I bought the coat one size to big because i wanted it to fit over my body armor. I am an armed security officer.

As a big person I am always concerned about fit. This was fine, especially through the chest where I have problems - football lineman build. I wouldn't plan on wearing a suit coat underneath it, if you are a bigger person. Good quality garment especially for the price. Not advertised as water-repellent but I think it would stand up to the rain OK - at least the kind of rains we typically get in New Mexico!

i wear it a lot while riding, and its very strong. kept me warm enough on a freak wisconsins winter day when the windchill hit -60f (like, -40 standing temp), but im also known to be very cold tolerant so take that with a grain of salt. doesnt look costume-y or cosplay-y, its legit.

This duster is constructed of heavy weight canvas material, it's "real deal" clothing, and clearly not just light weight "costume" stuff. I looks and feels just like I expected and seems more than durable enough for daily wear. I recommend using the sizing charts available to obtain a good fit, they were dead-on for me. This was my second item purchased through this site and I have been very pleased by the quality of both. Great period products and quick customer service. I'll be back.

This duster looks phenomenal! It washes well. It is rugged. And the price is very reasonable. I needed it for a western themed promo I was shooting. This duster stood up to multiple shooting days still looking as good as the day I unboxed it. It washed without fading and the material did not wrinkle or pill (I did hang dry instead of machine dry). The build quality is great - even the buttons are high quality and sewn on well. I highly recommend this to anyone needing wardrobe for video and film. As for others needing western wear for other ventures, this is rugged enough to stand up to just about anything you could throw at it - well maybe not a direct hit from a bull's horn, but if that happens to you, you have bigger fish to fry than a hole in your outer wear. 5 out of 5, very pleased!

This is a nice basic duster, it's not lined so there isn't much warmth, but layered up it's fine. It is cut very loose, so if you are between sizes, go smaller. I wish I would have ordered a L instead of XL, but I had the sleeves hemmed and it works well

I'm impressed.
We are quite satisfied. The material and stitching are adequate and the sizing is good. It hangs on me very well. I hand washed it in the utility sink and hung it to drip dry. Didn't want to run it through the machines before I even wore it once. Even though I now think it's tough enough to handle a wash and tumble dry, I'll still be hand washing it just to be safe.
I paired it with the Floyd Side-Button Shirt and a derby and am pleased with the look. It's good when the clothes look and feel properly made and fit well enough to be comfortable all day. TeslaCon here we come.

Fabric is pretty much the same as a canvas drop cloth--dense without being too heavy. Came out well when machine washed (gentle) and dried (finished line-drying damp for no wrinkles). I'm busty, hippy, and somewhat broad-shouldered and long-armed (44" Bust measurement) and the L size is just about right, although I haven't tried too many layers under it.

I bought this Xmas gift for my husband thinking it was like the old LL Bean duster coats. Unfortunately it wasn't at all like those coats. There were about 12 buttons to button to put this on - really impractical. The fabric may have been as described but this was not going to work for my husband.

I was expecting a somewhat more water repellent fabric. Not a “slicker,” or something oil-skin, but something with a slight coated quality. This duster is unlined. Plus, the shoulders, and armholes are not large enough to wear over a sport coat, or dress suit coat. I’m keeping both dusters, and wearing them with jeans. But, they’re not great. Just barely adequate.

This is no 'prop' jacket
It's hard to get an idea of what a product is like without actually touching it and seeing the quality for yourself. I can tell you first hand that after I received this I was VERY happy to find that this is no movie prop, flimsy, cheap duster. While this jacket came as described on the website, I did find that it was a bit roomier than expected. I ordered a 3XT and ended up having it tailored with darts to eliminate some of the extra fabric across the chest. I still recommend this jacket, though if in doubt, you can size down for a more tailored fit.
