During this past summer, I was fortunate enough to work as an actor on season 2 of the hit Taylor Sheridan TV show 1923. Wardrobe had put me a period 3-piece wool suit and topped it off with a brown Derby/ Bowler hat. My wife saw the wardrobe picture and commented on how good it looked on me, then for my recent birthday, bought this Derby for me. I just wanted a different old west look. I'm getting a ton of compliments. It feels good on my head. I look awesome. I have lost a lot of weight due to surgery so I put a couple strips of felt in the sweat band to make it a little tighter on my head.

I wear derby hats all of the time. I've been looking for a quality straw derby for a long time, as it gets very hot in Alabama. This hat looks like a proper derby. There is one small thing wrong with the hat, it doesn't have a proper hat band. It should have a band with a bow, like the original hats. Other then that, a quality proper hat.

I created a felt Derby out of an old Indiana Jones fedora and liked it so much, I decided I wanted a straw one for summer. Love it, and was pleased to discover it was a Sunbody hat.

I had an outdoor steampunk event to attend right at the hottest days of the year (so far) here in Seattle. It was reaching the three digit mark when we are used to the high 70s being hot. I didn't want to wear my regular bowler as it would roast my brain. This straw derby worked perfectly with my summer outfit.

Very well made, size ran large used a hat sizer fits perfect. Great sweat band , was 97 degrees today, wore golfing walked 18 holes, kept sweat off face. Would highly recommend.

I have a felt "bowler" that I purchased years ago elsewhere. My wife likes a taller crown, and I was in the market for a straw derby, since my receeding hairline is rapidly approaching the bald spot in the back. I was excited to find this straw bowler online and dumbfounded that you’re located in the Bay Area south of me!! Initially I was just looking for the standard wool bowler but was disappointed that my next opportunity to wear wool anything was next Fall. there are many different types of straw used in hats. I believe that the strongest, and also very attractive is the straw used in Guatamala! I have had one for over 25 years and the straw derby is even better made. Some day I may buy the straw top hat, also the tough Guatamalin palm straw!

Love this straw derby. The fit is perfect just follow the sizing chart. The quality for the cost exceeds expectations.

This derby is a great fit and very cool in the hot Florida summer. I wear it for a 19th Century visitor program at the Castillo de San Marcos and it is much more comfortable in 90 degree whether than my other Emporium derby that I use in cooler weather.

I am looking for any hats that can look good while conducting Masonic Lodge. This had does not meet the standards. I thought it would, but it looks too weird on a fat guy. the Tall Derby does much better.

Many years ago I bought a fancy, lined, "crushable" bowler at a hat shop in Carmel, CA and it's been my go-to for every nearly every gig ever since. Recently it went missing and after searching high and low for over a month, and only finding hard Bowlers or obviously cheap imitations, I finally found just what I needed here. I wish the sweat band were black rather than tan, and I miss my fancy lining, but in all other ways this hat is perfect and I plan to buy another one to have on hand just in case. Thanks for such a fine product!

The quality of this hat is incredible! I bought a Gambler Hat as well and most people like the Bowler more. I haven't had the courage to crush it, but I trust that it works just fine. I am very happy with my purchase.

Does not fit as the size suggests. Because the material is crushable, it is also stretchable, and needs some material aded to the sweat band to fit better.

Just what I needed for a character for a film. A brown derby is not the easiest to find, but Historical Emporium is my go to store for some hard to find items for costuming. And, had the size I needed which is not always true of this company for commion popular sizes. That is one thing I would like to see corrected by this company. Please restock or have more on hand. Thinking a brown derby may not be a hat that is ordered compared to a the color black. So, having is was a good thing and then in size I needed for character was a real plus. Very happy with the hat, color, size and quality.

nice looking hat good construction, having only small, medium large ect choices the fit is not very good. you should include a hat sizer band with each purchase my medium is just too big, but a small won't begin to fit.

I bought the derby for my son's first solo dance routine. He's 10, the medium fit perfectly. He's doing well, High Gold in his Charlie Chaplin inspired solo dance routine. I've been on an H.H. Homes phase these past few weeks after reading Devil in the White City and I've always wanted a Derby. The hat willalso go well with my Pinkerton Detective costume this Halloween. The hat is well constructed and looks wonderful. A great value!

Nice. Definitely a real hat, not a cheap costume prop. The only issue was that it's just a touch small for my husband's size 7 3/4 head. Probably best for people no bigger than a size 7 1/2.

Remember the buffalo hunter Big Swede in Lonesome Dove? That's the look I wanted with this swashbuckling tall bowler and my duster. Hat was quality material and looks great after I "seasoned" it by hanging in dusty barn for 2 weeks. Tossed out the standard feather and added my own longer feathers for one of a kind accent. The ladies in the Walmart pharmacy can't get enough of me now!! 5 Woohoo's for that kind of attention. ;))

This is a beautiful hat. It's a tall derby. If you're not in the mood for a Top Hat and not quite in the mood for a derby, this is the best of both worlds. And you can't see it from the picture but there's a feather on the side. A great hat that garnered compliments. Very happy.

I should have anticipated that the hat would be quite stiff and structured, so if you're on the border for sizes, I recommend sizing up. Well made and looks fantastic.

Like a john D Rockefeller now I need pants suspenders an along wool overcoat

to most hat styles I've worn. I ordered a large and it's too small.This is not perhaps the company's fault, but it is a problem. I will be sending it back for either a refund or exchange. However, I do love the products available on the website; but am realizing that for my noggin it is probably wiser to get my hats custom-made.

The derby is very nice and is well made, I really do like it. The problem for me was I thought I could wear the M size but I had to insert size-reducing foam all the way around behind the sweatband to make it fit a 6 7/8 size head.

I have a lot of hats, mostly Stetson cowboy hats. But I couldn't see paying $248 (typical) for a Stetson Bowler/Derby. So I looked for a medium quality Bowler. I tried a few others that ranged from theater quality (don't be seen up close in it) to reasonable quality hats. One was decent but was mailed in a shipping bag and was crushed. Go figure huh? Send a hat in a bag for the less than careful shipping companies to modify for your customer on the way to the customer. With the background out of the way these folks sent me one of these hats in a box. A shipping box not a hat box, but for this money so what. It came in good condition and very quickly. The fit and finish of this hat was at least comparable to a $150 quality hat and for for much less. I like the hat. It fits right and looks great. I would buy it again without a doubt.

This is much better quality felt than the former "deluxe" model derby (although, to it's credit, after several years of daily use, I have consigned the earlier model to "motorcycle duty" due to wear, yet it is still holding up well even to 65mph!) The new Scala model has become my daily "town" wear hat. I have 4 "Deluxe" derbies, 2 Scala, 2 Capas, in 3 different colors, I wear them all, none feel, or look "costume-ey" As these wear, I will come back for more.

Good looking hat. I took it to western shop to have it steam shaped to fit my head better.
