I had to appear in a morning coat suit for a formal academic event with European protocol (the men wore either their academic regalia or a morning coat suit). It turns out that the coat is not easy to come by in the US, but I was fortunate to run across the Historical Emporium's website. They had the right coat in my size in stock and shipped right away. It's a nicely made coat in exactly the right style, although the materials are modern, light weight and comfortable. I'd certainly buy from them again should the occasion arise.

Received the coat and tried it on immediately and noticed how light it was, which was a very big plus for the temperatures that we find on the middle Gulf Coast of Texas. The sleeves were about 6 inches too long, but that was good since the wife can sew (I can too, but only when I have to) and she could fit it to my arm length. Very happy with the coat so far and see no issues at this time!

We were using this jacket as a costume piece for a show. It arrived in record time which was great. We also needed an extra large size which wasn't easy to find anywhere else. The sleeves needed hemming but that 's ok better than too short. The coat was well made and can be kept for future endeavors. It looked amazing and really added to the character.

An absolutely delightful coat, very well made, and good fit. The tails go down to the back of the knees on me -- 5'7" female in an XL. Sleeves are a little long, but expected for the time period.

I am not the usual skinny person who can buy a medium or large of anything and have it fit them. I've had some trial and error trying to find a tailcoat for a vampire event. I ordered using the size chart based on my shoulder and chest size and the jacket fits perfectly. Very happy with the fit as well as the quality.

I'm part of an improv troupe that creates stories in the style of Jane Austen. When we started three years ago we cobbled together costumes from and bought cheap. Suffice it to say when I unboxed the coat I was immediately impressed by the quality. It fits properly and looks good. Coupled with the HE fall front trousers and a HE vest it really helps me get into character (whether as beau or a cad). Miss Austen would approve.

My wife and I participated in the Rochester Dickens Festival in December 2024, with cheaply made costumes. While we carried off the events, we were almost ashamed of the quality of our outfits. This Sovereign Regency Tailcoat is the "real deal" because it is superbly constructed, using durable, attractive materials, and expertly finished with all the details needed. Although I have a broad chest, the arms were too long for a smart, tailored appearance... but my local tailor modified the sleeve length for about $25. I now have a "custom-fit" Regency tailcoat that will more than match to quality clothing of the other participants. The two Regency waistcoats I also purchased will complete the illusion! Outstanding!

We ordered this, and a vest, for a Halloween Costume. The Tailcoat was in NC from CA, within 3 days, and the Vest, which was special order was here ahead of schedule. I needed support for figuring out sizing, as my husband didn't exactly fit the sizing guide. Both items fit perfectly. I was very pleased and will probably order again in the future.

Numerous positive compliments when I wore this to the Fizziweg (young Scrooge's former boss) Ball. Perfect for "Regency" period attire or creating that "Mr. Darcy" look. Paired with a red Buckingham vest. Large is equivalent to a size 44. Excellent fit and drape. Wore again to the Snowball the following weekend. After wearing one more time will beat the cost of renting locally an item from the wrong period.

My husband is 5'4' and slim; usually wears slim-fit suits. We went by your size chart and ordered a medium, but it was huge on him, so we exchanged it for a small, your smallest men's size in this coat. It's still loose on him, but since there is no smaller size, we are keeping it and heading out to our trusty tailor to shorten the sleeves and take in the back and shoulders. It will look quite stunning on him when all is done!

I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. I went for the small and I usually wear size 38R. I prefer my coats to hug my torso but this one stands out as an exception. I wear it for my morning walks, I find it too flashy for wearing to a shopping centre. Well made and very beautiful!

This coat is for a production of Pride and Prejudice for the character of Mr. Darcy. It makes him look very elegant!

This coat arrived in the mail after an incredibly long wait, and found it a little bit of a letdown. The sleeves are huge, so long that my hands got lost in them and I had to have them taken up (which cost extra money). This is normal for me with coats and trousers but these were even longer than usual. The collar and sleeves definitely aren't velvet. They don't have any two-tone shine to them. It's morel like a suede or felty material that just eats up dust and lint. One of the lapels wasn't folded right, it stuck out awkwardly and I had to iron it into shape to match the other side. All of these take at least a star off, as it's a bit of a fixer upper, more so than usual. Apart from that though, it's alright. It has a very nice look, it's ornate and incredibly dapper. The inside pockets are nice to have, even if they're pretty small. I think the normal black one would do just as well. There is no velvet in this whatsoever.

Wow, this tailcoat is great. I'm a professional full time actor and I was hired to perform a historical play. A red tailcoat was required and I spent a good month visiting costume shops in person and online looking for one. Tried on many and they were almost always single layer, no lining, no pockets, poor quality and $300 and up. Saw this one and even though I could not try it on The price was too good to pass. It arrived quickly and as soon as I pulled it out of the box I was stunned by the quality. Thick quality tailcoat, two nice pockets inside and looks very historically accurate as opposed to the clownish bright red carnival circus type jackets that are offered at other costumers. I was really impressed, then I tried it on.....Too small! I ordered a large which would normally fit me, but this large seemed a bit smaller then what I'm used to. I sent it back and ordered the XL with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! a quick and easy exchange and the new one fit like a charm! I had not enough time to do a return/exchange so I just bought an xl and mailed back the L and it all worked out well. A few days after they received my L I got my refund. I definitely recommend this jacket. Large fits slightly smaller then standard sizes Is darker in color then it appears on the website. expedited shipping is FAST! Looks great with the Penworth ascot and a proper full sized top hat!

Love this tailcoat! Quality construction, definitely better than "costume quality." Taking off a star for the color: the picture is a bit misleading, because it is actually a very dark burgundy, and there's not as much contrast between the red and the black velvet trim.

Originally got the 40 R , I usually wear an AMERICAN 40 R suit . The 40 R tuxedo jacket might have worked but the pants were a bit tight. Went with the 42 regular and both fits were very good. The quality of the suit was very good, as most other reviews stated. I am very pleased with the tuxedo, especially for the price. Exchange of suits no problem

This Tux is excellent quality. It retails at other places for over $350 making this and extremely good deal. It is also sized as described and is very comfortable to wear. This outfit will be getting a lot of use.

I was very disappointed with the tuxedo coat as one of the buttons on one side had almost completely dropped off and two others below it were very loose. I had to take it to a local tailors for repair.

I needed an outfit for a Victorian-era costume event and this tux proved just the ticket. The price was only slightly more than the cost of a rental. This tuxedo is nicer than the asking price would indicate, and I am very pleased. I first ordered my regular size, but it proved to be just a bit snug. I simply sent it back and ordered the next size up – PERFECT. The only other comments that I need to add relate to the pants and may be of significant interest for prospective buyers. The information on the sizing of the pants indicates that the pants “are sized with waists 6” smaller than the coat size.” Initially, I was concerned that getting a larger coat would make the pants far too large. No worries! The pants (like many tuxedo pants) feature an adjustable waist – the adjustment let me reduce the waist a few inches to make for a perfect fit. It’s a nice suit and an excellent value. This is such a great tux at a steal of a price. It will look great at my wedding and at any concert I conduct or perform in. The blue paisley pattern on the inside of the jacket is a darker blue than pictured, which to me is a plus.

Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. Quality & workmanship of clothing is excellent and I expect that they will last for many years.... and Never go out of style. Thank you! I plan to order additional items in future.

Right from the box, my new coat looked great, and exactly like what I wanted. As I tried it on, it actually fit perfectly. The suit looks good but the pants are made of very thin fabric. Very difficult to work with and get the measured length. Not great for the money. A bit disappointed.

I received my tux earlier than expected (AWESOME) Fit is perfect as usual. I put on the vest and low and behold marks pencil I believe. Looks as if a pencil was dragged across parts of the vest to makk button placement. On the white vest . This is my only complaint. Hopefully cleaners can remove whilehaving trousers taken up .
