I went with the large size but found it shaped for too circular of a head shape. I was able to steam it to be more oblong front to back. Your mileage may vary. Great hat!

I was looking for a Zorro-type hat to wear when I attend performances of my play that features Zorro. Earlier I had bought some costume hats, one size fits all, but I have a big head and they don't fit comfortably. Based on other comments, I chose XL for my head, which measures slightly over 23". The hat fits perfectly! It's also more affordable than the Cordovan hats I found elsewhere.

This product is good quality. My problem was sizing. I used the sizing aid and ordered a size too small. Be careful on your sizing.

Large should include that extra quarter inch that was not there! If I had ordered extra large size the hat would have fitted me like a bucket! The size LARGE should include an extra quarter inch for people who are genuine half sizes-- between Large and XL. This is the case with shoes as well. I am a genuine 11 and a half and so it is with hats! Be more inclusive! Damn you! Otherwise I like my hat, even if it gives me a headache!! Now I can be Zorro and play classical guitar like the wind! Thank you! Grrrrr!!!

A great hat! A perfect match for a hat in an 1820s local portrait which is the period portrayed. Makes for a more casual and relaxed look instead of the formal looking top hat.

But the fit is a bit tight. As someone with a mondo Melon for a noodle I expected an xl to fit watermelon sized craniums, it may need to stretch to accommodate my brain girth.

I thought the Hat would be a little more sturdy.... but I am very pleased with the look. With a little Hot Steam... I was able to shape the hat just the way I needed it.

So I've worn Stetson straw and felt cowboy hats almost daily for 15-20 years. This is the first of purchase, of a lid that is not sized by inches and, I did not try on prior. For the price and the fact that I'll shape it to my style/personality, I'm quite pleased. This lid will ware sooner than heavier felts yet, the ware will be a great contributor to the look I seek. I still ware my straw most of the time but, now when stepping out I'll be someone with assured presence. Cause let's face it, somebody's got to have some style. Add my duster and it's hillbilly deluxe. Billing, shipping and overall service was very pleasing.

I didn't want the hat strings on the hat. Decided to go ahead and order the hat since that was the only way it came. I will take the strings off of the hat to wear the hat. The hat strings are not an optional item. It would possibly help others decide to purchase the hat without strings if you made the hat strings optional with a wait time for delivery (custom order).

In anticipation of playing the role of Fagin in a local community theater production of "Oliver!" I searched and searched for a wide, flat brim hat with a fairly low crown that would complement my costume, but not "break the bank." I finally ordered this one, and although the crown was not quite as low as I had wanted, it still turned out to be an excellent choice. The fit and look both are perfect. And it is very sturdy ... I accidentally sat on it (a black hat on a black chair) and thought that would ruin it -- but the crown went right back into shape when I popped out the crumples! A great hat that I most certainly will wear and enjoy for many more years, along with the other quality period pieces I have previously purchased from Historical Emporium.

I love this hat!!!! I was worried about buying a hat online, but it arrived very safely packed in a box of sufficient size so it was in perfect condition. I didn't even have to so much as fold, bend, or shape it anywhere. Hat perfection right out of the box. My head is 22' around and I bought the medium Perfect size for me and very comfortable. It comes with a feather in the band that can be removed or swapped out if desired. I just want the plain black hat so I removed mine, but saved if for later just in case. The hat is made very well and looks great on. Even though I ordered other items at the same time, they shipped the hat in its own box which I appreciate because I have ordered items from other websites before and they have thrown everything in together and something inevitably gets ruined. Not the case with Historical Emporium. They put quality and care into everything. Even packing and shipping. Thank you!!

I have had hats before but this one my wife is very pleased with which is a plus. It is what the website shows. I have a 23 1/4 size head which is for almost all hats between large and extra large. I bought extra large and added a short sizer to each side and it's perfect. I agree with my wife - best hat so far.

The hat was exactly as described and pictured. Sizing was spot on with the help of the sizing chart. I bought a care kit and a leather hat band to spruce it up a little bit and it's perfect. Now I wear it every day, especially when I head out to the barn.

Great hat but the grey is considerably darker than the advertisement. Otherwise, great hat.

Very nice hat BUT sizes not enterly accurate. Small-medium-large medium is supposed to be 7-7 1/8 which would be my size, but both wife and son said, “It looks a little big on you”. Other than that, no complaints. Feather on side a little out of character for the style of hat. I removed it and the hat band and added a customized band from Chisholm’s Trail Leather.

I've never really been a big "hat person." In the deep South, mostly that means shruggin on a ballcap to keep the sun off. Nice hats are for pretentious people with more money than sense. WELP...guess I've lost my damn mind! It's a nice hat, really damn nice - almost too nice to wear to keep the sun outta my eyes when I'm gardening! I should have paid more attention to the review from Rich from San Antonio (7/2/16). The hat is very stiff does feel flimsy. The xl I purchased was slightly too large but since I didn't care for the hat, I decided to return rather than exchange. That's where the problem comes in. Because the hat can not be stacked, it requires special handling from shippers. That was explained to me at UPS who wanted $57 to ship back. After that, I called Historical Emporium for help. Their only suggestion was to try the Post Office. I did and they wanted $47. So I guess I'll just hold on to it or see if I can donate it to a theater company.

It is not the first time I buy from Montana the most interesting clothing if not frontier gear. I miss my Remington too, but I have found the hat I always been looking for, this one! I can't give 5 stars for a simple reason. I am not used to do it I have just managed to wear it half hour in a two weeks delivery timeline! Not enough but it fits perfectly well on my head. Better if I had `Geronimo's face but I don't and yet, having had it made extra water repellent, I am super pleased with it. Now I need to find a rattle snake skull and I will be happy with it all. Looked a long time, in real trading posts and western wear catalogs and shops, and this is the best "Injun Joe" hat. Very sturdy, beautiful surface, perfect fit.

I purchased an extra large, and I could barely force it onto my head and it sat there painfully. They definitely need to expand the range of available sizes. Other than that the hat seemed to be of decent quality.

I have a lot of hats in my collection. I do western reenactment/gunfighter shows. I like having different hats for different characters. When I saw this hat on your website, I thought I'd finally found a style like the one that Tommy Lee Jones wore in "Lonesome Dove". I've wanted one for some time. The hat I received looked exactly like the one advertised on the website.... I guess I just assumed it would be a sturdy hat. The quality of this hat is the type that you might find at a Halloween costume shop... perfect for one night of wearing.... but not something that will hold up through weekly shows.

Very nice hat but Capt. Woodrow Call would've preferred it a bit thicker material. Will look great when I add my sorrel and black braided horse hair stampede string cuz first thing I did was throw away that "lil chin strap" as they call it and "season" it for 2 weeks hanging in barn. Decided to snag it as a good hat for slightly colder weather, not only is comfortable and simple but was able to add a nice band to the crown myself with minimal effort.

Nice looking western hat. Bought big size and adjust it down with the internal adjustment. Big size allows scarves and hoods in winter. Bought for naturalist role at Colorado State Park, but like the hat so much will probably use it as my main hiking hat.

Had several compliments. This wool hat is crushable but retains it's shape, so it's easy to pack to travel, also has a high sunscreen protection. Has a colorful small feather on band not shown.
