I ordered 3 different shirts and vest/ pants. All great quality. Clothes run true to size *however* - I am barrel chested. My neck size is a 2X but I needed a 3X to fit my chest. This would not be an issue for most folks so just a note in case it does matter to you.

The shirt looks exactly like the photo. Nice fabric. I like the puffy sleeves. I have not washed it yet. I hope it does not shrink.

Plastic buttons are out of true period, but works.

Great quality

I bought both Trapper and Fundamental Work Shirts and my review/opinion for both is the same. Well made shirt. I expect it will last a very long time. Relatively thick cotton material, but comfortable and cool, not hot. I bought size Xlarge and it fit better after washing. Minor shrinking after washing but it now fits perfectly. The shirt is meant to be puffy and large, and I am very glad I bought it. Only complaint is the Trapper shirt collar is always wrinkled so I keep it unbuttoned which makes it look better and not obviously wrinkled. I could iron the collar but I am too lazy to do that. Oh and shipping was very fast. I think I got the shirts in 2-3 days.

Great quality shirt! But sizing a bit off. I got size M based on my neck circumference and my regular shirt sizes and it came soooo large. My two size bigger husband fit in it:) So, it is his now. Fabric and workmanship are exceptional though.

I bought this primarily to wear in a photoshoot in which I wanted a certain and distinctive look. When I took the shirt out of the packing, my first impression was good : it looked true to the pictures, and felt well-constructed and durable. In short, well worth the purchase price. I tried it on (the sizing seemed good), then checked it in a full-length mirror. And I liked it, but wasn't sure if it looked as distinctive as I'd hoped. Then I wore it in public, and that experiment put any concerns to rest. Half a dozen different strangers stopped me to tell me how cool it looked, or to ask where I bought it. And that's always the giveaway: the reactions of strangers. Not only am I confident it'll be great in the photoshoot, I'll probably be getting a couple more just to wear as cooler-than-usual (and comfortable) casual shirts.

Everything was outstanding except--the top cloth knot button would not go into the cloth loop. Had to have the loop extended about 1/4" for it to fit.

I'm 300 pounds. I play Santa, as well as a History Tour Guide in New Mexico. I ordered a 4x. Usually, I wear 3x, but at $70 for this shirt, I knew I could tailor it down. When it came, I put it on. It fit perfectly. No tailoring. So either I got bigger or this shirt - made in Peru - sizes a little on the smaller side. So for you big guys, order a size larger. The materials and stitching are excellent. 100% cotton muslin, it's of a material I didn't expect. Nice, strong shirt. I can wear it as a Santa Workshop shirt with suspenders, or wear it with my leather vest for a really great historical look. I couldn't be happier.

I ordered an ex-large, could have worn a large but noticed the sleeve length is the same so I just kept the original order. The sleeve length is too long but since I wear it in my studio to paint in I just roll up the sleeves. This is a wonderful shirt, well made, good quality and I will buy more.

Shirt was to enhance my Victorian style of Santa suit. Worked perfectly. Customer service is outstanding.

This year, I decided to start looking into becoming Santa Claus. There are a lot of interesting articles of clothing available here that would add some unique twists to the standard Santa aesthetic, and I was inspired by the C. Kringle outfit that featured the Fundamental Work Shirt, but I liked the forest green color better. The loose fit allows me to wear the shirt over my body pad comfortably, and the color is a beautiful contrast to the red of my suit.

I purchased a 3x the first time and i loved it. But i decided to go 4x. Love my shirt. Fits grest. Feels good. Looks good. I'm planning to purchase others. 1 a month!!

I work at a living history facility which means I have to do real trade work in historically appropriate clothes. This shirt was good, not superb but good. The stitching is alright, but the fabric is sheer enough to see through in bright light. It will do for light work.

I gave this shirt to my Beloved for his birthday along with pants, suspenders and some ties. He liked them very much and I did get him an XL…he is broad shouldered; I would suggest to size up for comfort. He usually wears a 17 1/2, 32 sleeve. Very handsome top. Washed in cold, air dried. Retained shape and colour very well.

Shirt is a nice color. I ordered the 4x which is what I normally wear in a Scully shirt. This one fits much snugger than the Scully. If it shrinks at all will be too small. Will not order again.

A nice-looking shirt, somewhat short in the body length, but still just long enough. The pleating in the front which looks nice and gives the shirt a bit of style also makes the shirt smaller around the chest, that needs to be considered when ordering it. I will be wearing it to an historical event this coming Sunday and will be washing it and I hope that all things turn out well, too much shrinking would render the shirt useless. We will see.

I love this shirt for my more casual outings! I was a little worried about the slight puff to the sleeves, but once it arrived, I thought it was great. I wear Historical Emporium clothing as part of my regular ensemble and this shirt is great for more rugged canvas pants and a more casual waistcoat.

I have 2 other "Fundamental Work Shirts in other colors. All 3 are excellent and comfortable. The workmanship is excellent. This Forest Green one is a gorgeous color. I use all of my Historical Emporium clothing while Cowboy Action Shooting.

This shirt fits wonderfully. It is period in fit which means it is loose. Very forgiving if you are heavy. I am a huge fan of henleys, wearing them normally so this shirt is just right for me.

Bought a forest green Fundamental work shirt and it is very comfortable for hot weather as the fabric is not real heavy. Fits loose and airy, just what I was looking for.

I bought this as a kind of add-on to my order, unsure of how I'd like it. As it turns out, it is my favorite piece. Very soft, with a nice texture to the pattern, it looks stylish and smart without the need for a tie or for proper "dressing up." Paired it with a vest and Boom! Looking like a 19th Century Irish Farmer who anachronistically happens to work in an office.

Very well made. Made in Ireland! Soft heavy cotton. True to size. Hang dry these shirts, do not use hot water, warm is ok. I bought one shirt to try it out hoping it wasn't made in China. I was impressed by the quality of material and workmanship as soon as I opened the package, and it fit great, too. Get compliments every time I wear it to work, or even just around town. Plan to purchase several more in different colors.

Recieved my order quickly and in fine shape. I wore it first to a "workin' folk" dinner. The shirt looked dashing. Then used it on the shooting range (Cowboy Action Shooting) and it functioned even better than it looked. Plenty of arm room and flexibility. Material is nice, not flimsy, the color is fast after washing, the fit is nice and the size to fit relationship is accurate. A excellent workin' mans shirt. I have a second in maroon. I might yet get another.

The Fundamental Work Shirt is a good fit. I'm 220 pounds, 5'9" tall, and the 2X fits well, except the sleeves are a little long, but not so long I need to send them back. The Essential Work Shirt Seems slightly fuller, and the fabric seems somewhat heavier, but the overall fit is close. Both types are relatively easy to get on and off, and seem nicely made. The shirts have a definite "night shirt" look to them, but they are comfortable and roomy. I tried them on with bluejeans, and khakis, and they look good--a combination modern/retro look. I expect some looks and comments when I go out in the world wearing these shirts. I fully expect to have to answer the question, "Where did you buy that shirt?" I will wear them alone or with my Woolrich wool vests, which looks great. If you want some casual shirts that are different, and will set you apart from the rest of the herd, give these shirts a try. You'll be the only cat in town with genuine manly puffy sleeves. If you can pull that off, you'll be a man, my son. (Sorry, couldn't help it. A little fun with Rudyard Kipling's poem, "If--.")

The fabric feels terrific when I wear the shirt. It has a warm brown color, which actually isn't done justice in the pics online. I'll definitely order some more colors of this shirt.

I am serious. It feels so good ( wash before wear ) that you just want to wear one every day. They are cool in another way. The stains that accumulate from a few small drops of stout may stick but the effect is an increase in the character or the shirt. I liked the first one so much that I bought two more. In this shirt, you can look diesel as hell or fop about on the town. Add a waistcoat though...for decorum's sake.

I brought the shirt for an event and it needed to dye the shirt yellow, so I dyed the shirt the color I needed. The fabric took well to the dying process and looks and fits fantastic.

I really like this style, its really comfortable. But be sure to order a size larger than what you normally wear, I wear a size 17 neck and when I received my order and tried it on, it felt a little tight in the chest area, I think it had something to do with the way the shirt is sewn at the bottom of the opening, it kind of bunches up a bit. I sent it back and got a size 18-18.5 and now it fits a lot better.

I have wanted a shirt like this for several years after seeing antique ones in flea markets in France. The shirt is very well made of soft, drapey cotton. Great with leggings! I've gotten many positive comments. Very comfortable.

I liked the Laborers Shirt much better than this one. This was of a thinner material and I liked a collar much better than the mandarin look. Quality seemed ok but again in my opinion not as nice or authentic as the Laborer Shirt. If you like this style of pure white color and a thinner material than you could do worse I'd think. Just ok.

I had ordered this same item before in 2014 but H.E. has changed suppliers apparently. The original shirts were sturdy and very durable and I still wear them often. The current product quality is lighter weight, doesn't hold its shape, is poorly cut and generally shoddy. I won't be ordering again.

I purchased this shirt to have cool protection from the sun. It fit true and is also beautiful. The arms do not get tight in any position. I bought the lightweight all cotton shirt to fit loose, not snug. The front is well made, pleated and buttoned from half way up the chest. It looks like a shirt Charles Ingalls would wear on Little House on the Prarie. Very nice. Would look good in a cowboy shoot.

Has more detail, with numerous pleats on each side of the buttons in front, than shows in picture. Light weight fabric, which is good, since this is worn in summer with a vest. Size is accurate, with good length for tucking in, and long torso men.

bought this for an historically flavored event. i had a few positive comments on the shirt, it fit nicely, and was comfy as could be expected. i am 6', 230# but if you are bigger, order a bigger shirt ! this size won't be good for anyone larger.

I have been particularly please with the Fundamental Work Shirt in slate blue. I am a demonstrating blacksmith at a colonial historic park and this shirt fits both me and its period perfectly. The color is very, very close to natural indigo and the fit moves well for active work. At this price I plan to acquire several more.

The navy shirt has quite a distinct cut, slightly more full than the red workman's (forgot name) I purchased earlier. I am equally pleased with this shirt as the last, and will be looking for a deep green one next. By the way, they wash beautifully, but bleed til second wash, so just wash with darks..and do NOT dry. Hanging them to dry has left the style and size intact. Off to shop...

A very fine shirt.

Material feels substantial but comfy; sleeves give lots of room to move; comfy neck and cuffs; nice detailing. The only point I would EMPHASIZE is that it MUST be washed in cold water. The pleat detailing beside the button band reduces the stretch across the chest. It is not forgiving - esp. if you shrink the shirt by washing it in warm water (like I did). I tried to order a larger one in navy, but it was not available.

Wish it was made in America, I would pay more for a shirt made in America!!!!

Went to wear the shirt for the first time and the top button fell off. And the other shirts I bought the buttons were loose and I sewed them on more securely

Love the shirt...comfortable to wear, breathes easy in hot weather, you can wear it in winter with a Henley underneath it, and it’s easy to care for. It goes well with jeans or with casual dress jeans and a vest, plus you can accentuate with a bandana or wild rag. I was a cowboy in my younger days, I love the old west traditional clothing, it’s how I dress, and get a lot of compliments on it. I’ve bought shirts similar to this from you folks and they’re still holding up great after several years. I’ll be buying more in the future.

Very well put together. I wasn't sure what to expect, was the first thing I'd ever ordered, but wow, impressive.

I needed some 1850's period style clothes for a pioneer trek that we have planned with our church youth group. The shirt is one item I ordered. It is great. The style and cut add to the whole outfit. The shirt is well made and of excellent quality I am well pleased. It arrived quickly and fit perfectly. I would highly recommend it. It helps me to feel "old fashion" and pioneer like. Although at my age it may not take too much.
