First, I buy these vests for work - as the title suggests. I wear vests often for the warmth without the sleeve constriction of a full Carhartt jacket. We live on a horse farm and could well have a good number of outdoor chores and repairs any given week that would require freedom of movement. This is a good made vest. I was disappointed when I opened the package and noticed immediately that it was not a Wah-Maker brand. This vest was replacing a ten year old Wah-Maker that has finally given up it's seams and button holes. Thankfully, it seems cut from the same pattern with stout canvas as the Wah-Maker - so it fits like my old vest. A very good thing. The buttons though are not metal like the Wah-Maker - time will tell if these plastic buttons will hold up. Good pocket depth.

It is the second one that I have had in several years. It is better than my first one. Only because It has an inside pocket, perfect for my cell phone and is about 2 inches, great for taller men.

I'm going to be speaking at the 100th anniversary of the Easter sunrise service at a famous rock in my city that has been used by traveling preachers since 1837. My other vest was getting a little too tight so I needed a bigger one.

I use the items that I buy from Historical Emporium for everyday wear and having access to canvas pants and vests at reasonable prices is very nice. Shipping is fast and customer service is THE best I have delt with lately.... I cannot express how happy I am overall with Customer Service for Historical Emporium. The only small drawback is that sometimes the sizes I want are out of stock at the time I want to order. I have checked back at a later date and been able to find the sizes I want, so I would advise others to be patient and check back.

I purchased this vest in October of 2013 and 8 years later it still holds up to the test. I had to have it taken in and the tailor was surprised to work with canvas but it fits even better now than it did the day I bought it. I immediately followed up with the same vest in crimson and will be repurchasing this color again for a richer black. The black color, though faded, is still good 8 years later. All pockets are functional. Purchase with extreme confidence. I have about a 53" gut at 6'3" and the 2XT is an absolute perfect fit.

I am 6'1" medium build. I ordered the XL Tall. Fits perfectly. Good that it has an adjustment buckle in the back as I am slim waisted and cinched it up so it has a nice tapered look. My vest was made in Guatemala, so I am good enough with that. USA would be better, but what are ya gonna do?

I've a wardrobe for my reenactments and speaking on my war between the states persona. After being invited to participate in a Wild West event I needed a few items to adjust the look. My other vests are coat and tie ones, I needed a working man's look, this is exactly what I wanted and needed. The event isn't until the end of October and I'll be submitting photos then.

This is a sturdy well made garment. It is great for working around the property when a jacket is to much and a sweater is too delicate for the job at hand. Size seems to run a wee bit small, but may loosen up after some wear and a wash.

This has become a favorite for my husband. Although what he really wanted was this same vest without the lapels. But he's still a happy guy.

Wear it at work alternating between this and an apron, fits well and protects my shirt and people like my style.

This vest is spot on. Had to workout an exchange because I needed a tall - MEASURE THE LENGTH! You'll save yourself the trouble. Once I got this vest though I was sold. The quality is great. Nice solid canvas with a beautiful texture. It's already starting to soften and bend more easily with some wear. The buttons and back strap are all super solid. This vest is better than I expected in a lot of ways. It is well constructed, made of very study fabric, and of suitable length for any number of possible pairings, including wearing with kilts. This vest works well as a winter layer under a jacket, and neatly holds a scarf in place. The pockets are a little bit on the small side, but perfectly adequate to hold a pocket watch, as designed, though maybe a little skimpy for a larger sized handkerchief. I'm really pleased with this item, and am considering getting another one in black.

I was skeptical at first, but for the price I thought I had to try it and I'm very happy with it now. The fabric is stiffer than I expected, but less than the military version from the same manufacturer. The ensemble with my frock coat and my cane gives me a very gentlemanly look that I am looking for. The color is incredibly beautiful. I recommend it to you.

like all your vest the fit is perfect and it looks great its just not as red as I thought it would be its more of a burgundy or dark maroon.

I recently purchased the Classic Canvas Work Vest in crimson color and was immediately impresses by it. It is probably my favorite vest now, which I own many different types of work and dress vests from the 1880's period of clothing. The materials and workmanship are of the highest quality, and the styling is really nice too. I really like the buttons used on this vest, as I am partial to metal buttons. My second vest of this style (outgrew the first, it's still in good shape). Quality of everything I have bought from Historical Emporium is excellent. After ordering I learned I would need it earlier than expected and standard shipping might not work. I called customer service to see if I could upgrade to expedited shipping. Customer Service looked up my order and assured me it would arrive on time with standard shipping, in fact it arrived a day earlier than expected. They could have charged me the extra shipping fee and I would have never known the difference. It is so nice to do business with an honest company that offers great products.

Love this vest. It's been hard for me to find a vest that will fit. I'm 5'9" and wear a 2xlt shirt due to having a bit longer torso. I just wish it was available in more colors..I wear it to church and any occasion that calls for a more formal attire...

The lighter weight but woolen mix makes for a good semi-formal wear. Added a modern point collar shirt with a tie and collar clip for a routine bread and butter outfit. Cut and collar were perfect.

I tend to grit my teeth if I have to spend more than $50 for a vest, but I've got to admit it's very well made. Quality material and stitching. So much so, that after I received the double breasted herringbone vest, I was so impressed with it that I bought the single breasted herringbone vest as well.

Its pretty dark for being "gray". I do like the metallic buttons and the quality overall is very nice, but should be considering its 3x the $ of every other vest I looked at. Biggest complaint and very disappointed that the backing was a black linen material, fairly thick and heavy which made it very hot. All the pictures showed a light gray backing which was highly desired to match with the rest of the wedding attire. Unfortunate.

I love this vest! I provides a nice sense of dignity and elegance to my wardrobe and I'm pretty sure my IQ goes up when I wear it. It's comfortable, seems very well made. For example, even the back is substantial, unlike the chintzy material that so many use! Now I just need to find a quality pocket watch!

This is just what I was looking for. The vest seems sturdy, built to last. The blend feels nice-- a touch of wool (25%) but not so much that would make it too warm to wear indoors. I wear this as everyday work wardrobe, not as a costume, so I need something that will last. It's also available in tall sizes, which I need, and which are really hard to find in a lapel vest. I buy vests regularly, but am disappointed with most of them. And most cost more than this one. This vest I am extremely happy with. I may even buy another one--something I never do with clothes. It's that good.

Great character garment, I have always admired the character clothes of actors in the old westerns, from great actors to the B-class movies. This is my new favorite outfit. I feel like a fancy banker or perhaps a mobster. The color is like a worn/distressed navy and the stipes add a dapper touch that accentuates my 6'3" super slim frame. The buttons match the stripes nicely. I feel as the fabric and pattern will wear well for many years. I'm a bit in between sizes, 42" chest, but the medium fits handsomely. 36" waist is my normal, stayed with 36" and they fit great. I do wish the best came in a tall option, but it covers my suspender tabs and waist strap on my trousers. I couldn't wear it with modern waisted pants, but again I'm 6'3" and 190 lbs. I have several vest and trouser sets from Historical Emporium, super excited to finally have something blue.

The vest is of course great quality as I have come to expect. Fit is perfect, however with the light on the pictures it gave tje appearance that the color was that of a lighter blue. It is in fact very dark. It is almost a denim vest. Not exactly what I had expected.

Just got my Humboldt vest, this is a very well made and sharp-looking vest. Nice heavy material, in a dark slate blue/grey, with pleasing stripes. This one does run slightly large - I ordered a XXL, and have a 50" chest and stand 6'2". There is definitely room in the chest, and more in the waist, so order your natural size at the most. Would definitely recommend this vest.

I've never owned a suit that wasn't black, or a black pinstripe; the Humboldt stripe vest (and matching trousers) makes for an excellent change, and one that stands out and gets you noticed. The fit is generous, the colours compliment each other very well (and the buttons match the stripe perfectly), and the texture of the fabric makes the waistcoat suitable for casual wear, as well as part of something more formal, or as I do, for work, on a regular basis (I match the Humboldt vest and trousers with the Livingston black brushed cotton town coat, black boots and a white shirt and black tie combo as in the pictures above - trust me. It works). If you're thinking of buying it, believe me, it'll make a very fine addition to your wardrobe.

I bought this vest after being less than impressed with my 'old fashioned' vest from another retailer. I absolutely love this vest! It has a full cotton, tan back to it. The cut is great. Going for a bit of a settler look for my wedding on my side, and this one helped me hit the mark. Strong recommendation for the look and quality.

This is my second time buying an "Old West" vest for my costume as a "Living History" re-enactment player. The first attempt was at another web site and the sizing turned out to be an educated guess, it didn't fit. At the Emporium the sizing instructions were accurate and it fits perfectly! I also appreciate that I can purchase the components of my character/outfit one at a time and still have that continuity that the whole outfit looks like it was purchased together.

This is a well made vest. The material is a heavy duty cotton and feels like very soft canvas. I gave it 4 stars only because of the plastic buttons. They are heavy duty buttons, but I would have paid more money for a vest with buttons that were more period correct (such as wood or another natural material). Also, the tag on the vest says "Gunslinger Vest" and the brand on the label is Frontier Classics. So it is designed as a western style vest. I was wanting something in a Victorian style to wear with my bowler hat, but it will also go well with my western hat. I ordered a size Large and it fits true to size. I wear a size 42 suit and it was a little big, but was able to adjust it down to my size with the tab belt on the back. Plenty of pockets.

Quality is spectacular and the shipping is as if I walked into the store and purchased it, delivery from the west coast was quick like I've never seen. Customer service top notch, size of clothing was as described. Best to get one size larger as with all dress clothes due to the high waist. Best clothing company ever!!

This is a great quality, great-looking vest. Sewing quality is outstanding. The material is thick and soft. Buttons are quality, too. I normally would fall into the Large sizing, which I ordered initially, but had to re-order a Medium, which fit perfectly.

Wearing this vest is not only comfortable, but remarkably historic. I have only received compliments when I wore it - everyone has asked me more about it, and I've told them right away about the Emporium. Works superbly with a cravat and a pocket watch. Hopefully, one day, the mainstream fashion can return to this golden age! We can only try.

We were looking for a vest for my (now) husband. We finally found the right one on the site. We bought 2 sizes as we didn't know which would fit best. We chose the smaller one and returned the larger one. We had a family member take in the vest a bit because it was still a little big, but there is no way my husband would be comfortable in the next size down. All in all the vest was just what he was looking for and he looked great at our wedding!

I really like how this can fit into almost any earth tone outfit. Works with tans, olives and browns. The only drawback is the shorter "gunslinger" flat front doesn't work on me as well. However it seems to be very sturdy with strong buttons.

Handsome more help on the sizing chart would be appreciated. I think men are getting bigger (sorry) and so what used to be a med could be a large? Anyway it was a birthday gift much appreciated.

The material feels substantial and is really high quality but it is not too hot despite it's thickness. I wore it with a puff tie and dress shirt in low 80s for pictures and while officiating a wedding near Jackson and it was very comfortable the whole time. The unique look and metal buttons get a lot of compliments and the double breasted style looks formal even without a jacket. I am 5'11", 165 and the regular M fit very well. The length is longer than the average vest which really helps it to look great without a jacket.
