Highly decorated, Jean Pierre Moreau, a heroic overseas legionnaire, earned every last stripe on the ribbons from which his numerous medals hung. But more important than the kudos received for bravery and brawn, this fine captain had an infectious ability to create an “esprit de corps” among even the most disparate of ranks; an important skill considering the men in his battalion hailed from 17 different countries.
So beloved and respected by his men, Moreau was nicknamed ‘Jeannot le Hero’ for his frequent fearless actions. He once singlehandedly held off an attack of two thousand revolutionaries while his remaining soldiers carried off their injured and infirm. When his own prosthetic leg was spitefully swiped by the enemy, an around-the-clock hunt was launched by his men who would not call off the search until the looted limb was returned to safety.
