So much more than I expected! I thought my other Frontier Classics vests from Historical Emporium were
tops, but this one stands out. Large vests are to snug on my belly, extra larges is what I wear with the adjustment belt in back snugged up some, but the Buchanan vest is just right in extra large. Smooth fit and
looks great as an Indian wars era cowboy action getup.
This vest will also see action on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings.

This vest is definitely a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. There is just enough wool in the fabric to give it the proper feel. The fact that it is self backed makes it perfect for use without any type of jacket or coat. On top of that it is decidedly comfortable to wear!
I purchased this with one very specific use in mind, which required the stand up collar, and Navy Blue was exactly what was needed for the Tartan it was to be worn with. But now that I have it, I'm finding that it works quite well in many other ways. It will be seeing a great deal of use year round. This is definitely worth the extra bit of time that a special order requires.

This is an amazing looking vest. The collar will be better if you have a longer neck. I originally ordered a 3x, but had to exchange it for a 2x. Customer service was fantastic. The exchange was made way quicker than I anticipated due to the current Covid crisis. Always a pleasure to shop with HE.

New favorite waistcoat
I've wanted a green waistcoat for the holidays and St. Patrick's day and I finally purchased this one. I love it! The high collar gives it a little oriental look. It's a little longer than usual waistcoats, which I like. If I wear a belt, it's hidden nicely with this. The fabric is beautiful and it's fairly lightweight so I'll be wearing it in the spring as well.

I find the most helpful reveiws discuss sizing and not aesthetics. For me, the fit depends on the cut of the garment, I am to thick to wear "skinny" tailored clothes and often, if I go one size larger, it can look like I am wearing my father's clothing. In a sport coat I look for a 43" regular and once again depending of the cut of the garment, along with my own seasonal weight loss or gain, the article of clothing "fits" or looks styling or looks like I am in desperate need of a tailor. Out of the bag, my ordered "Commander Vest" fit nicely and allowed enough room for me to feel comfortable without adjusting the back strap. I purchased this vest for part of a SteamPunk costume I've assembled to wear to DragonCon in the fall of this year. I'm still working on some other applications...

This Waistcoat was worn for a total of two weeks 14 days straight for 14hrs each day, cleaning was a good brushing and hand wash on every (never let a machine wash such a garments) 5th day. The performance was simple outstanding never was a fabric covered button lost, nor one of the 4 lined pocket torn even the lining stayed intact and in place after each wash, quite surprisingly I might add, all stitching was tight on all seems and points simply perfect.
The beautiful fabric design is amazing, one can feel each and every swirl of the tapestry, black highlights emphasized by the dark black background. A silver Pocket watch-chain draped across the front with a starched crisp white shirt underneath and I was the talk of the office now everybody wants to know where I purchased this extraordinary Waistcoat, I think I'll tell next week.
This is a must have for any true Gentleman !

I have been building my mid-1800s wardrobe recently and this was a fantastic addition. I absolutely LOVE this vest. The red/black Buckingham vest is completely stunning. It came to my home in about 2-3 business days from the time I bought this vest. The vest is absolute splendor and beauty. It also fits me very well.
I do have some words of advice to those who want this vest. First: you're going to want to reenforce the buttons as they are a little loosely attached. Second: be very honest about your measurments. This vest is cut smaller than other vests made by HE. Other than that you will be the talk of the town in the Buckingham vest. If you love victorian style vests; get this now.

Historically accurate? Maybe. Awesome? A resounding yes! This is a Sharp(e), dashing waistcoat that got me noticed the first time I put it on. The fabric is excellent and the buttons are good quality. The button-hole stitching is machine-made: enough said. The cut is longer than the usual vest and is generous through the stomach area without being over-large in the shoulders. Beautifully shaped and tapered so you don't miss the adjuster strap at all. Only downside is that the inside French seams did not leave enough room to cover the rough edges so after one wearing I had thick threads hanging out all over. However, that's easily remedied with snips and should not put you off the purchase. Multiple buttons give several different looks. One of their best products. Highly recommended.

Great looking waistcoat and fits the purpose perfectly. A little too roomy at the waistline and does not have the adjustable band at the back; however if I expand, there is room for me to grow! A size smaller would not fit properly in the chest, so prefer the roomier waist as the lesser issue. It is also worn under an 18th century-like coat so no overall worries.

I followed the size chart, but I was in between sizes. Got the larger size, which fit me under the arms just right, but was HUGE at the bottom. These seem to be made for large bellied men. Had it tailored and took two inches out of both sides to fit it all the way to my waist. Moral of the story, these flare out a good bit.

He is a blacksmith and travels for history days in our Midwest/Ozark area and really needs pockets for a wallet, reading glasses, nails, etc. This vest has plenty of pockets, and if this vest washes and wears as well as his last vest from the Emporium we'll be very pleased. It looks very dashing, and the brown color doesn't show the coal smudges!

Amazing Product
I absolutely love the fit and color of the vest. It works beautifully to accent a suit or a formal steampunk costume. While the fabric is comfortable and not too restrictive, it proved too thin to support the clamp on the end of my pocket-watch chain. A minor disappointment in an overall wonderful product that I would recommend in a heartbeat.
