I ordered this cap for my father, who is approaching retirement. It arrived earlier than expected, which was wonderful; dad pulled it out and smirked a little, went and put on his new red pajamas, and sat down to watch vintage Charlie Chan mysteries for the evening. The cap is warm, fits perfectly, and is exquisite in both the detail of the embroidery and the texture of the velvet. Dad has since worn it every single evening as he winds down, and each time gets a smile when he puts it on. I could not be happier with this cap: exactly what I was hoping for, and then some!

This was a Christmas present for my dad who collects hats- he absolutely loved this one! The shipping was quicker than expected and arrived as expected. The only problem was the sizing- I had to order a medium for a size 57cm hat and I could have definitely sized down due to the nature of the hat. My dad likes it all the same- nothing a quick stitch can't fix. Will probably order another for myself or siblings!

If you do the research, even in today's acrimonious society, there is room for something of another era when gentlemen knew how to be a gentleman. Plus, if you're a wee bit shy in the hair department, it really does help to "warm up" the dome without suffocating it.

The Smoking Cap is one of two hats I purchased for my costume as Fagin in a local community theater production of "Oliver!" It looks and fits great - very comfortable. And the quality is excellent. In fact, it looked so elegant that it had to be distressed somewhat to go with the costume. But even after that, it still looks great and there is no doubt that I will continue wearing it on other special occasions in the future!

I'd got the Black Velvet "plain" Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap ("plain" meaning no embroidery on the side) because I wanted a warm cap to wear "indoors" during winter. I wear sweaters and turtlenecks indoors so that I can keep the thermostat turned down, reducing my heating bill. However, I still suffered from a cold head! I had pull-overs, toques, knit stocking caps, and a bunch of other, regular, outdoors winter-wear lids. But I had nothing even remotely "Ritzy" to wear indoors. The other stuff made it look like I'd just come in from checking he mail, or something--- not like something I had intentionally worn indoors! The smoking cap's ideal! It's also a good bit like Dumbledore's "casual cap," (which I'd also considered; rejecting it because it was made too small for me!) but less "ornate." The Vintage Quilted Smoking Cap also special in that the "XL" version fits me; and I usually take a 7-7/8 or "XXL" hat or cap! I like the Harry Potter series; but being in my 60s, it behooves me to avoid dressing exactly like Dumbledore! (Yea, sure; the kids & grand-kids would love it, but it might cause talk!) So I split the difference, buying a cap that only slightly resembles a "wizard's cap." I'm happy, the kids are happy, and the rest can hop it! However--- I hope that the Historical Emporium has an ample supply of these, as they're great for "customizing" into fancier versions with glued-on trim & piping, braid & brooches, for the costumes of "Dumbledore Wannabes!" I love my smoking hat. I bought it to go with my 1983 Mercedes 240D that is the same car used in Marrakesh for taxis. It's perfect for keeping my head warm while looking cool, and won't blow off if I roll the window down. It's a much nicer quality than I had imagined. It arrived in 2 days which surprised me, so fast!

We keep our house at 60 degrees during the winter and it can feel pretty chilly at times. My older husband has lost a lot of hair and had been wearing a winter knitted cap in the house. I just couldn't stand looking at the dopey thing anymore. Pirates of Penzance is one of my favorite movies and I remembered the Major General wearing that smoking cap & robe so I went looking online. I found this smoking cap at the Historical Emporium, got his approval and ordered the purple one. It took him a couple days to get used to wearing it (he felt silly) but I liked it right away. Later, a met a male friend of mine for lunch and he was wearing a hat. He said he'd just gotten a haircut and his head was cold so I told him about the smoking cap. He immediately asked if it was the kind with the tassel...like Groucho Marx! So, there are probably a lot of guys out there with cold heads who would be interested if they weren't afraid of looking silly. I hope you can start a trend with this practical solution for those saving a little money on the heating bill!

This hat has the feel of old world luxury, and looks great.

Thick, soft material, super comfortable. Quite well constructed also. It does appear to run small, for example I wear a 7 1/4 hat but the size L (7 1/4 - 7 1/2) fit snugly. I'm going to order another just because they're so distinctive.

My smoking hat is Smoking: I got it to drive my gold and black 67 Chrysler Imperial around Houston in .Now when I scoot around town I feel like a true macho hombre! When it cools down I think it will be good for oil painting too .Thanks for the sartorial boost !

Being a true 'hat' person I couldn't pass this up. I like the quality. Also, it's perfect for windy days as it's low enough on my head to not blow away. My friends are hysterical that the tassel isn't stuck in place. I also have the hat from BBC "Copper". It's the plain version but I've decorated for each season. One issue, the Smoking Cap is shipped flat. So I've filled it with tissue to get and preserve the round shape. GO FOR IT!

My favorite Ivy cap was chewed on by new puppy. I searched for a long time and this one came the closest to what I wanted. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it didn't go as flat as I would like it to, but that's probably because it's new. I do get a lot lo compliments when wearing.

Comfortable, stylish and practical, this hat is everything I hoped for!

I'm very impressed with the quality of this cap keeps my head cmpletely dry in the rain and you can even see the rain dripping off of it. Others tha I have owned had a similar effect however the quality and tightness of the weave puts this one head and shoulders above the others.

If you're like me and need to wear a hat to tame your magnificent locks but refuse to wear baseball caps and don't want to be seen in a fedora outside of a Justin Timberlake concert, then you know how hard it is to find quality hats that don't cost half a week's pay. Well thanks to the fine humans at gentleman's emporium you don't have to, high quality hats and good prices, I wore their top hat at my own wedding. The cap arrived safely and timely. I liked the looks and construction of the cap. When I tried it on my head, it was too small for me. I had full intentions of returning the cap at that point. My 20 year old son walked by as I was trying on the cap and said, "Cool cap, I want it!" When he tried it on, it fit him perfectly. He and that cap are now inseparable. I have to agree that he looks very sharp on him. Now I am under pressure to finish the 1915 Ford Model T speedster and teach him to drive it.
