My husband particpates in an Annual Gentlemen's Motorcycle ride and I wanted an outfit that would match his look. This suit is beautifully made. Since we live in Colorado and have lot's of red dirt and dust, I expect the white ruffles will quickly get dirty and will probably add some black ruffles to the bottom hem. I'm a man, years ago for Galveston's Dickens on the Strand, my late wife got one of these in brown, and I got a merchant outfit - the frock coat, vest, top hat, etc. This year, a new lady friend of mine and I decided to be a little wacky for the Houston Museum of Natural Science Halloween party. My late wife's outfit was a pinch too tight, so I got this for me. I was an 1880's lady sheriff, handcuffs, etc, I tell everyone how well made, authentic and comfortable the clothes are and hope to get more friends to buy from you as we all go to Dickens this year. People are used to stuff from Party City or those temporary Halloween stores and are really impressed with high class stuff and are of an age that we can spend a little more on fun. (but I'm done with any gender bender til next Halloween)

I do not and have not worn a dress in many, many years, but I really enjoyed putting this dress on along with the Hoop Underskirt. I am a short person and both the Skirt and the Hoop Underskirt will need to have some adjustment done to the length but otherwise, I am very happy with them. I ordered a size larger than I normally wear but it may be I actually do wear the size I ordered. I am excited to actually put it on for the Christmas parade this weekend. Representing the mother of a late 1800's-1900's western writer at Colorado Springs CO Legends & Lore Cemetery Crawl. I an in my early 80's, as was she, so big skirts and flowers are too frivolous. My Edwardian suit represented my character perfectly. I seldom find a yellow that I can wear, but the deep honey was flattering. Lots of "Ohs" and "Lovelys" from the audience. Definitely represented the changing time periods splendidly!

This is a beautiful suit. The faux suede material allows both the jacket and skirt to drape nicely on the body. The weight of the fabric makes it ideal for spring or fall wear. I wore this suit for guiding a walking tour during a recent festival and I was impressed not only in how comfortable it was, but with how great it looked. I felt wonderful wearing it. Sizing was as described - I had no fit issues. I highly recommend this suit!

Thank for alerting me that this dress was again available. I am shor-waisted so expected the bodice would be long for me but was willing to try it knowing I could return it if it fit poorly. So, yes, it is a bit long but still looks fine. I also ordered the Walking Skirt in the Purple color & it looks great worn over the dress. Looks love lovely with the matching Bonnet as well.

It may seem a little unusual to write a positive review for an item we returned, but the garment itself was not the issue. My wife is short-waisted and just under 5'4", so the way it fit was such that we could not effectively alter it. This is in no way a judgment of the dress itself. The material is excellent quality, very comfortable, and looks great. The finish of the garment was outstanding, with almost no loose hanging threads, which indicates time taken to do it right and a seamstress with some real experience. Make no mistake, if the fit had been a little closer, we would have paid a bit extra to her seamstress to perform the final fitting simply because the dress was well worth a little extra expenditure. But the height of the dress and the waist issue were just a little more than we wanted to take on. Otherwise, a superb garment nd one that will serve well. Definitely worth 5 stars. I have made numerous purchases from H-E, and have always been very pleased with the products. Occasionally, sizing may be a little off, but my experience with H-E has been no different than with any other online or brick-and-mortar merchant. Different manufacturers always have a little different way they size clothing. H-E is generally always spot on with its sizing, so no complaints at all. Thanks for the great job you guys do!

I recently purchased the Rebecca Regency Dress to wear as a day dress for the upcoming Jane Austen Festival in September, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! I play for Regency dancers and am asked to appear in period costume for balls. This dress is beautifully made, with attention to detail, and the sizing was accurate. The fabric is of good quality. There is plenty of material at the bottom of the dress to allow for various hemming options. I would advise keeping the leftover fabric for possible future use. It's a machined hem so hemming can be done by machine rather than by hand. I am happy with the zipped back closing as it is easier to change in and out of (and with these dresses you often need help), but some people might prefer buttons, in keeping with the period. You can always cover up the zip with a shawl. The sleeves are generous, so easy to play in. Bodice is generous, with ties to get an exact fit. A thoughtfully made dress.

I bought this to wear at Ragtime music festivals. The fabric is lovely. It is very well made. I am 5'7' tall, band size 39, and I ordered a Large. This fits but is a little long. I will have to wear it with 2" heels. At first my husband and I thought it was a bizarre fit on top, but then I figured out what the ties were for and got it adjusted to fit me. Clever. It is lovely.

Well made. Love the pockets I am 5'1", 150 pound, chest 39", waist 37", hips 42. I ordered both a Large green and a Medium red (wine). The large was more comfortable in the chest, but I needed the length hemmed by about two inches and the sleeves shortened. The red was tighter in the chest but not uncomfortable, and the sleeves and length were perfect." Love the pockets which are hidden in a side seam. Fit my larger Pixel 9 phone perfectly. I ordered both a small and a medium classic cotton petticoat. They were the same length (they reached the floor so I had to tie the drawstrings high on my waist). There is a LOT of room in both (almost enough to fit another person in it) so I went with the small as I did not need the extra ruffles around the waist. I wore it with the slightly-to-large -for-me muslin bonnet and a gray apron from another site (I had already loaned out my muslin apron which would have also worked well),

i’m so pleased with the quality of this dress! the fabric is so nice and thick. also… it has pockets! that was a lovely surprise. my package arrived exactly when they said it would. overall i’m very pleased. my only gripe - it is huuuuge. i ordered a Medium as i’m 5’7” and about 140lbs and fit M for basically everything. this dress fits more like a Large! one review noted it being big and i wish i had taken this into account and bought a small. i had a friend alter it for me.

I have been buying clothes from Historical Emporium for a few years now, because of the high quality of workmanship!! Although I'm not always spot on with sizing, the fabrics used, cloth covered buttons and the attention to detail never disappoint. This dress is very comfortable to wear and looks great!!! For me, living in a hot climate, I would have maybe liked this dress to have a collar of some sort to protect my neck from the sun as I ride in my sulky!! I was not expecting this dress to be quite so beautiful as it is. The fabric hangs so perfectly and blows just great in the breeze, while still being very durable. One of the button holes needed reinforcing, since it kept coming open, but otherwise this dress is far better than I expected in all ways. And that is not to say I had low expectations, I just thought for the price, it was not going to be QUITE this nice.

I really like this dress. It looks like a dress from the 1830's. Next month I'll be wearing it along with the Muslin Bonnet in front of the Alamo in San Antonio. I'm part of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and we are doing a presentation to celebrate the independence of Texas from Mexico. The dress is made well and looks very authentic.

I was searching online for dresses that would resemble styles from this time period, not expecting I'd find one that is more like a recreation AND at a price I could afford. I didn't buy this to use as a costume (although I could of course do so) but simply as a dress for any occasion I'd want to dress up since it's just my personal style. I contacted customer service to ask for some more detailed measurements of the dress, and they responded very quickly with all the information I needed. Since my measurements are currently a bit between two of the sizes I went with the larger and figured I can have alterations made it necessary. Surprisingly, I don't think I'll need to. Even more surprisingly, the torso and the sleeve length of the dress are more than adequate for me - and I'm 6 feet tall! Overall, this dress appears to be well made, it has lovely detail to it, and the cotton fabric has a really nice thickness and softness. I already have my eye on some of the blouses and I've told a friend about the website because it's just such a cool find.

The dark color in the picture online does not show how very well designed and well sewn this is. Unlike costumes, this is made to last.

LOVE this dress. Personally this is something that I will be able to wear all the time. The quality is excellent. This is not like a costume at all, but is a great dress. For me this fit true to what my size normally is. I originally sized up using the measurements but then needed to exchange for my usual size. Exchanging was quick and easy.

I put together a costume as a Presbyterian Church Lady for our Florida town's rededication of its Presbyterian Church founded in 1895 (and still standing.) I had only to add a dickey with a standup collar, add a cameo, black hat with egret feathers and granny boots for an authentic look. The dress fabric is a dull black sturdy cotton with decorative pleats and embroidery down the front. Very authentic -

I bought this outfit to wear when I give tours at my local historical cemetery. It is beautifully made but I wish that they would make them in petite sizes. I have to alter the skirt because it is too long. This is the second outfit that I have purchased and both are way too long! How about offering these for women that are under 5'4?

I don't know how I missed the existence of this suit for so long. I will chock it up to not really wearing skirts and therefore paying more attention to the men's section. However, when I went looking for something to pair with my Gibson girl blouse, I did a serious double take, given that I'd bought a pattern for basically this exact outfit years ago, back when I had dilusions of learning to sew well. I'd even planned on using these exact colours! Needless to say, I had to have it. Enter my wacky build. According to my chest measurement, I'm a S. According to my waist measurement, I'm a L. L was out of stock, so Mum and I looked at each other and, after some debate, decided that since I frequently wear M jeans, it would be worth it to order the M. Fingers crossed, I placed the order and... ...PERFECT FIT! I about did a little dance when I tried it on, but there wasn't room in Mum's bathroom! And it's well made and the weight is lovely and the skirt twirls! This will undoubtedly become my 'most worn outfit with an actual skirt' in short order. I want to go to the park in it and just walk around looking amazing.

This is a beautiful suit, well made. Sizing is always an issue with me so I have to be very careful in selecting a size. The chart was a big help. The skirt is long but can be adjusted to my height.

I recently ordered costumes to try on for a part I have in an Historical Drama later this year. I chose the Ladies Edwardian Suit together with a blouse in natural and the cameo on the black velvet ribbon. The costumes are very well made, they are a good price for the quality you get, and if you order by measuring they fit perfectly. All skirts are adjustable at the waist and are designed so they can be hemmed to your height. I was able to easily send back the costumes I did not choose easily and recommend this costume source.

This beautiful navy suit is extremely well made. Fabric is good weight and not only looks good, but will hold up. the buttons in the back and the way, the back is made, made it easy to move the buttons to take in the waist a little. Perfect. I'm very pleased with the look, and the quality.

This was purchased initially for a Titanic-themed evening, with future 1910s outings in the future. Anyone who saw it was incredibly impressed and asked where I bought the outfit! It looked very impressive and beautifully detailed. And the sizing was very very generous. The fabric has a nice weight and is well put together. My only gripe would be that it would be nice to mix and match sizes, as while the skirt was a touch large, the jacket was absolutely swimming on me and it will be a shame to have to alter it. All in all, if you're careful about the sizes, then I'd happily recommend it. And the processing and delivery was exceptionally fast.

1890 House Museum

The skirt was a mile too long (I'm 5'2 1/2") and had to be shortened, but I'm looking forward to wearing it for my son's "Victorian" wedding reception next month. It is absolutely gorgeous! I am a docent in an historical home every Christmas season. Usually decked out in hoops, petticoats and a fabulous dress from the 1860s, I chose to do something easier this year so I could dress myself, be more comfortable, and not knock the ornaments off the tree. Going Edwardian, some 30 years later, was the answer. When this suit arrived, I was delighted to see the quality of the material and sewing. This is not a costume; this is a handcrafted piece. All it needed was hemming. With a black belt, hat, and the proper blouse and jewelry, this is a stunning outfit.

I purchased the blouse featured in the photo of this costume, along with the belt. I called customer service to verify it was available and shipping time. I was a volunteer at a historic reenactment event and needed an outfit I could put together without a lot of time and effort, so I bought this suit. As others have noted, it has an adjustable waist, which in my opinion is one of its nicest features. The jacket has a generous cut, which was great for me, since I have wide shoulders. I didn't have a black belt so I sewed on a black frog closure at the bottom of the jacket which really complimented it. Even though it's cotton it doesn't wrinkle too much, and it's pretty comfortable. Added a button up white long sleeve blouse with a brooch at the collar and presto-- edwardian outfit.
