Some week ago, I received my latest order, the Chocolate-colored Fundamental Work Shirt. What can I say, no loss in quality regarding this item, on the contrary in fact. I have been particularly please with the Fundamental Work Shirt in slate blue. I am a demonstrating blacksmith at a colonial historic park and this shirt fits both me and its period perfectly. This is a casual shirt with a simplistic, frontier style that I like a lot. The color was lighter than I expected - but this is good because I find I can wear it with all of the vests and dungarees of different colors that I have. The fit of this shirt is loose and comfy. The back stitching has a great, subtle, frontier look.
Perhaps this shirt can be made in the color black? I think the style of this shirt plus the color black would give it a very dramatic look.

Shirt seems to be well constructed and fabric is quite lightweight, great for summer. It is too big however. Ordered a Large for my neck size, which is a 16, and I can fit my hand into the collar. I sadly threw away the tags and packaging before I could really try it on with the vest I bought previously, so unreturnable. It's a good shirt, nice metal buttons, but if you buy one, size down!

Coulter shirt in natural color is excellent quality for the price. Will definitely be using this company again. Shirt is slightly roomier than expected, but is more historically accurate in that regard. Natural color is not too dark. Sort of an off-white linen color. Better than I was expecting. If you want a more fitted shirt, try ordering a size under what you usually need. I wear a medium in most shirts, but suspect that a small would still fit, even in the collar, for a more fitted appearance. Overall great shopping experience

Great quality, feels really nice to wear, fairly sturdy material but not heavy. Good for hot weather. Before I was a teacher I was a metal fabricator and I’d wear it for that too, although it’s a little expensive to abuse it that way. Great fit for me, tighter wrist buttons make the arms hang, lists of movement.

Pockets in a Shirt?
The shirts came right away and the overall quality is very good. My only issue is with the pockets on the right chest. Your picture does not show pockets and a pocket does not belong on an 18th Century shirt. I would try to remove the pockets, but I feel sure the needle holes would show.
I am a demonstrating 18th Century blacksmith, and I really like my shirts to look correct as to period.

Now this is a great quality shirt with a lot of unique qualities! The fabric is very thick and heavy. A thick off white/beige linen look. Looks great tucked in or left out. If you leave the shirt out, it is a bit long but I'm sure a tailor at any dry cleaners can take the hem up a couple of inches if desired. Really great look if you like this style. Shirt looks like it can last a lifetime and goes will with jeans and boots. Good purchase, well worth the price!

I ordered the Laborers Shirt because of its unique design and casual look, and was glad I did. The down-to-earth unbleached muslin nevertheless has good body to it and a soft homespun feel. The cut, with its open neck and added fullness in the lower sleeve would give an artisan or craftsman an ease of movement required to complete his tasks, but I like it just as well to sit around and relax in.

The fit was a little big
I measured my neck at 17.5” and ordered the XL. I found the actual neck measurement when it arrived to be over 18.5”. I contacted historicalemporium and they actually measured a large for me and were very helpful in the exchange process. I recommend measuring the neck and shoulder width of a shirt you own and asking them to take the same measurements on the shirt you want to order.

I love the style of this shirt; the side-button flap has a little bit of a bib front feel without looking full-on Cavalry, and the material is a rough-hewn natural feel that can be casual or dressed up a bit with a vest.
Sizing was difficult for me because I have dress shirts in neck sizes from 17.5-18.5 and so I bought the XL. It was too big; because the cut in the body was larger the sleeves fell further down my shoulders. I bought the L and it fit perfectly. The sleeve length is the same for both sizes, so I ended up buying both to try them on side by side.

It was worn over the Christmas period and was admired by onlookers as unique, and interesting in contrast to today's fashions and designs. The shirt is slightly more yellowy than depicted.......its not so white as you might think from the picture. This is my favourite favourite shirt from Historical Emporium. The big collar gives you a lot of stylistic flexibility - it can be formal or informal, kind of Byronesque or professorial. I love the off-white colour. Looks good with a cravat or modern tie. Really comfortable and lush. I bought a second one.
