A quality costume
Got this for a Halloween costume. Also for my stage theater. This was a very good value decently well made with good pockets. Wore it in NYC Halloween 2021 and it was comfortable and warm enough but not suitable for really cold weather. Glad I bought it and will have many future uses.

Excellent cape at an excellent price. And there is very little sticking on the black cotton. So glad this cape became available again.

Shadows of the Night. . .
For many years I have wanted this very coat and at long last, I have one now, and it is absolutely wonderful! It is the perfect fall coat, light enough to wear on its own or, should the weather turn a bit chilly, with a light jacket underneath and you are set to go. I was not sure if I'd like the sleeveless design but I absolutely love this coat. I will be purchasing the full sleeve, 100% wool version soon for when the snow starts. This is not a coat for everyone due to its style and cut and it raises eyebrows whenever I wear it but I am glad I did.

Wow! Completely exceeds expectations
Full size cape with no skimping. Quality wool, fully lined, and full length. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a genuine usable over cape. This is not a flimsy costume cape. It’s the absolute real thing. First rate. Worth every penny and much more. Wow

Bigger is Better, Capes are Warm
This is a cape, and some might not understand what that means when they purchase, because most folks in the U.S. don't go about wearing capes often. Good wool, good liner, very warm, good design. It is a "one size fits most," garment. People who are less than 5 feet tall will probably find this coat too long (although it can be tailored). It is much bigger than I thought that it would be. The benefit is that it will fit over whatever you are wearing. It will fit over and protect/conceal your clothes, baby, lap dog, armour, weapons, tools, backpack (but maybe not all at once its not totally Mary Poppins.) It will also make a general purpose blanket if you are trapped in the cold somewhere. I recommend it. Capes for everyone.

Beautiful! Classic appearance; Well made; performs well even while wearing a suit beneath the cloak. Both fantasy and vintage style mixed together. Exactly what I ordered; exactly what I imaged.

Well made wool cape coat
I bought the black...I normally wear a large...the Cape fit extremely well....very long..a about 3 to 4 inches above the ankles... that's exactly what I wanted...great for a person who likes or needs to wear suits to work..this fits perfectly over jacket and does not make bullkie like regular long wool dress coats. The delivery was also faster than I expected...overall, if you are on the market for a formal wool cape like you see in the picture, then this is for you.. I would say this coat will fit from a large to an xlarge... don't know beyond that or below for a medium might be too big... that's my perception guys as I said I am large..and I could see someone a little heavier than me (5'9 190lbs.) Fitting into this because it is a cape which allows for more space inside

High Quality Garment
This cape is quite stunning. I previously purchased the Inverness Ulster in tan herringbone, and I am just as happy with this. I will need to have this one shortened slightly, but that is due to my lack of height, not to the product. Historical Emporium is a class act through and through.

Perfect Dickens Cape
I've had my eye on this Inverness Cape for some time and finally purchased it to wear at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston Texas. The event was held this past weekend and I couldn't be happier with how the cape fit, looked and performed! I'm six foot tall and the cape is a perfect length for me. It's made of weighty 100% wool with a nice satin lining and is period correct in every respect. The Cape is very well styled and toasty warm. It also has two generously sized pockets which came in very handy. A PERFECT winter weather garment addition to my Regency/Victorian wardrobe. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase!!!

Cloaked in Mystery
Ever since I was a kid, I have LOVED this look in film. I kept watching this item over the past two years and finally just ordered the darn SO GLAD I DID! It is exactly what I was expecting and looking for. It's a heavy weight, but that's OK, it's rare that you not only get "what" you paid for but MORE than you paid for, but this is one of those purchases. It just sets that air of mystery I've always loved about this look. BRAVO, Historical Emporium. You didn't just "meet" expectations -- you EXCEEDED them with this item!

Husband is delighted
We live in Michigan and winters can get pretty bitter. My husband had been looking for an Inverness cape for a couple of years, but theyre pricey or costume-y. I stumbled on this one while trying to find the name of the style coat and was surprised to see it was made of wooland had good reviews. This one runs about the same price as a good quality topcoat, so it wasnt unreasonable. When he opened it, he was delighted for three reasons: 1) It fit! hes 64 and broad-chested, so normal clothes are screaming for mercy) 2) It was a heavy-weight wool. This weighs more than the Swiss-issued military dress coat he has. Fits him better, too. 3) It is warm. We are at the beginning of our winter and it was too warm for him at 32°.

Best. Overcoat. Ever.
Possibly the favorite item I've ordered from Historical Emporium so far, this is a strong, sturdy, and warm overcoat with great style. Definitely draws attention, but doesn't look like a cheap costume coat at all. Warm, practical, and effective... kept me comfortable and dry on a recent boat tour of Prince William Sound, Alaska.

Gorgeous & warm
So this came in the mail last week, and it fit as predicted - is a bit large so it can be worn over another jacket, allowing another decent layer of warmth beyond just the coat itself. Nice material, and nicely designed cuts! Only main complaint so far (after having only worn it functionally once) is that the lining is the wrong sort of material - you have to bunch up the sleeves of the undercoat or shirt before putting your arms through the sleeves - otherwise, fabric-to-fabric friction pushes your sleeves up inside the arms of this coat and it's hard to pull them back over your arms. It really should have a silky or satin-like lining to allow it to glide over other clothes.

A In Depth Review
I love this coat. I been wanting one for years. And although it isn't everything I was hoping for, it still passed with flying colors. The outer shell is real wool but it's a woven wool, so it does feel thin. Not a bad thing, still keeps you warm just something that isn't in the description. The sleeve cuffs do roll down like they should. The Buttonholes are a bit tight when buttoning it. The cotton sleeve lining does stick when taking the coat off. But all that isn't so bad, the worse thing about the coat are the front pockets. For a size 42 the pocket width is 4 inches. I can only fit up to my knuckles. But the pocket flap are wider and the pockets do have enough material to be widen to 5 inches max. So with a little work or take it to a taylor, the pockets can be widened and would be unnoticeable. Overall, this coat is a great buy. Where else would you find one like it. (Other than Civil War ones). The "problems" with the coat are minor. They don't interfere with its job. You still keep warm, still can button it, and still can take it on & off fine even with the cotton lining. The only real problem it has are the front pockets being too small. Other than that it's a beautiful looking coat and is perfect for reenacting and/or everyday use.

Coburn Coat
I really like the coat, but I did have issue with the ease of sliding it on as a reviewer pointed when I was looking at reviews. A slicker sleeve liner would be helpful. I knew of this issue when I bought it and bought it anyway. I took it to a conference and received many compliments from many people. It was not a period group, but many loved it. Overall, I am glad that I have it and can live with the sleeve thing.

Great "Great Coat"
I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I think it could easily be improved. It's really difficult to get on over most other clothes/coats, due to the muslin used for sleeve lining - changing the sleeve lining to nylon, satin, or anything else "slick" would make a good coat great; The button holes aren't quite big enough, and it's a real bear to get the buttons done or undone - maybe I can find buttons that are just barely smaller; It could be improved if the interior and two exterior pockets were deeper (and wider for the two outside ones) - they'd be a lot more more useful; A nice upgrade would be to change the collar and pocket flap trim from (moleskin?) to velvet or velveteen. Overall, still a really nice coat for the price, and a great fit - I'm going to enjoy wearing it over my wool frock coat in the Winter. Delivered really fast, too - thanks!

Sizing a bit off. Shoulder width great as normal sizing, but waist and torso is lartge causing the cape and back not to hang properly. Lining could be a little higher grade, as sheds some on clothing under coat. Great design and good weight of wool material.

Great Cape
This cape is actually better than described, with very nice tweed fabric and well-sewn shape. If the fabric was any thicker, the cape would probably be too heavy to wear. As mentioned in the description, they do run large. I ordered a "M/L" size, and it is almost too big. I am usually a 46-48 inch chest for jackets and almost 6 feet tall, and I'm glad I did not order a "L/XL." A really well built cape, that I will put to work in cold, wet weather.

Roomy and Characterful
If you want a coat that attracts attention, this is it. There is much material (and thus much room) in the coat underneath. so it works with just a vest, or a full frock coat. The material is a medium weight - if it was heavier the coat would weigh too much to carry around. I like the material - not a super quality but close enough to a fine wool to pass, and it seems sturdy enough for good service. Be careful on a windy day - the cape can blow around.

This is a top quality coat and quite a value. I am 6' 1", around 230 lbs and the Medium/Large is just right for me (just like the sizing chart indicated). This is clearly a genuine coat for outdoor wear. Fine craftsmanship and quality material. A little heavier than I anticipated, but perfect weight for fall and winter wear. I would recommend to anyone.

Excellent product
My great fear was that this would be made from a cheaper, "costume-weight" fabric. When the small box arrived, my heart sank. I opened it up and could not believe how much coat you could get into such a small box! This is a real, outdoor-worthy winter overcoat for almost every locale. (I wouldn't warrant it for Chicago in below-zero January, but that's a whole different standard of human tolerance and garment expectations.) This is a very handsome coat with a most subtle gray herringbone pattern to the fabric. They do run Full and LONG - which I like, but others may want to adjust their order as some here have indicated in their comments. Full-figured fellows will want to stick with the larger sizes. Thanks for a great internet shopping experience.

This a really nice coat, it is not some cheap thrown together from overseas. It is Huge but it is designed that way to go over jackets etc. am border line L and XL. I first tried a XL and it was swimming on me. The large was a better fit if wearing alone. Historical Emporium is a very good seller, they go out of their way to make things right.

Excellent if excessive
I'm very happy with the color, length, and the warmth of this coat. It could easily serve as winter wear, and the lining makes sliding in or out of it a breeze. Being a medium, I ordered the M/L size; I would strongly recommend that these be split up in the future. The coat is very generously cut, to the point of being cumbersome when trying to get in or out of a vehicle, and the sleeves extended almost past my thumb.

I ordered this cloak along with the Historical Emporium's Vintage Black Velvet Smoking Jacket in order to dress as the Third Doctor from BBC's Doctor Who. Worked like a charm, and I can always dress as Jack the Ripper for those more horrifying of times. I am most certainly enjoying it. The satin has a nice shine to it so the red catches the light quite nicely. A downside to my combination of clothing is that the satin slides off the velvet so I spent a bit of time adjusting it to look right, but when I did it was glorious.

Great Coat!
This coat has a ton of style! Relatively lightweight- good for California winters. The sizing is SUPER helpful- normally i wear a MED but due to the chart and the tailored style, i sized up to be more comfortable with modern clothing, and it is GREAT! If i could change ONE thing, it'd be the buttons- they are domed and solid plastic. I understand thpugh- this coat has A LOT of buttons. I will be replacing with flat metal ones to match my style.

Lovely coat
Excellently put together. The seams are clean and the material is quality. I wore it out to the mall and got countless compliments. The fit was perfect. Just follow the size chart. There are decorative buttons on the shoulders that I didn't love, but they were easy to remove with some scissors (no damage done to the coat. Just pull the extra thread it leaves behind and they come right out without leaving a hole)

I absolutely love this coat, however, it is either cut very small or I have gained a bit of weight, as it is too small and I was unable to wear it to the event I planned to attend. Unfortunately, I cannot return it because it arrived quite wrinkled and I had to have it cleaned. So, I am hoping that somehow I will lose enough weight to fit into it soon.

I really love the coat. I wish it were a little thicker for the winter months but for fall and weather up to about 40 degrees, it should be perfect. Love the button detail and the way it stands out. Subtle Victorian beauty!!! I am so glad I took the large. I am not big, but I do have wider shoulders and the size Large is good. I wish things were made with the wider shoulder for us who have them. The large is good, however about an inch on either side more, would have been even better. No worries, its worth it...

Very Nice!
I go to a lot of opera and symphony concerts, at least I did before COVID. It is a fine garment, but you will get a few looks and maybe some comments. I'm okay with that. The quality is good, even if the garment is not as heavy as some fine coats - especially the lining is a bit thin. That is a function of the price, which is inexpensive for this kind of coat. It is okay for three seasons (in Calgary Canada) and I've actually got the herringbone version for colder weather. The fit is great for me - xl-2x for me at 6'2" and 250 lbs. - I can wear it with a waistcoat or with a full dress coat. I love dressing in Victorian style - if you are okay with being noticed, this is the coat for you!

Great coat. Great fit
I'm a little leery of ordering clothing online. I'm a big guy and have trouble getting things to fit, especially outerwear. I've wanted a long coat for a long time, but could never find one in my size. When I ordered the Inverness coat, my main thought was "Please let it fit" When I opened the box and examined the coat, I was impressed with the quality of the materials and construction, this is garment that could last a lifetime. Then I tried it on. Not only did it fit, but it was roomy enough to wear a full suit underneath, as I imagine a gentleman of the time would do. I am 100% satisfied with this item and would gladly recommend it to anyone.

This coat is world-class. It is so elegant. The one problem I had was the lining. Right out of the box it ripped, and I had to sew it. However, my impression is that the coat is stunning. One word of advice, order a size smaller than you normally wear, it is big!

Excellent Product/Excellent Service
I am a priest and I sometimes wear a cassock, usually on formal and semi-formal occasions. Rarely do overcoats look good with a cassock - in either length or style of cut. The Inverness Dress Coat is the answer! I'm shorter than the model, so the coat nearly covers the cassock. Also the style better melds with the cassock, especially with the cape. This is true of ecclesiastical head wear as well. The Inverness Dress Coat even makes a Canterbury Cap look good. After taking my measurements I submitted them with a question through the website. The response was quick and reliable. I bought the coat knowing the sleeves would have to be hemmed. Otherwise the fit around the chest and shoulders is perfect. The construction of the coat appears to be excellent. The only negative is that the lining for the pockets feels very thin. Not a place to store keys. Overall, though, I'm extremely pleased.

A little big, but not a problem
Greatly anticipated this product. I ordered the Small and it fit on the shoulders, but given I'm 5'6 with a 36 inch chest, it was a little big for the rest. Some hemming of the skirt, sleeves, and cape will do the trick though for a better fit. This will come in handy for the winter, as well as figures like Poe and Professor Fate.

Top quality yet very affordable!
Unbelievable quality! Every seam is hidden and the entire coat is well sewn, with no loose ends or messy oversewn stitching. The material is top quality with an excellent weight. The coat is versatile. Any man who sees this coat asks where we bought it!

Inverness Coat
I am very pleased with the quality of this coat! I wish there were separate options between XL and XXL (I had to have the sleeves shortened by a tailor to make it fit better), but I still love it. Now I'm just wishing for some more cold weather so I can wear it some more! I called to place my order over the phone and the team member with whom I spoke was very helpful and informative. This was my first order with Historical Emporium, but it most certainly will not be my last.

Excellent coat
The coat fits well and is not just a great look but keeps me warm on walks around town. The fabric is as expected and the stiching is very nice.

Just be aware that they do run large.

Great coat if a bit large
This almost exactly as advertised. It looks great. I got the XL/2XL and it's a bit big on me (6'3", 250 lbs.) but I put a suit coat on underneath it and that halped a bit. I will probably still have to have the sleeves taken in a bit. The workmanship on it seems very well done. You will have to iron or steam it to get the wrinkles out. A good value, in my opinion.

Historical Emporium makes the finest Victorian...
Historical Emporium makes the finest Victorian and Edwardian style garments I've seen. This coat is no different. Their customer service is top notch as well. I've ordered from them in the past and look forward to ordering more from them in the future when finances permit.

Iverness Coat
So good. Awaiting first batch of foul weather for a full the mean time, I'll just have to look spiffy.

This Coat Is The Real Deal!
This is a wonderful item, very high quality. Looks great. I am normally a medium, but I opted for the small and it was a good choice. A generous cut and will fit well over suits, evening wear, heavy sweaters....perfect for a stroll across the Moors! Historical Emporium is a class act!

Good raw material
The coat is a little long, but the hem can be picked up. I am installing five buttons and button holes on the front of the cape because the wind tends to catch the cape and blow it around.

Wonderful Coat
I LOVE this coat. I purchased the coat back in the middle of September and have delayed the review until the weather was cool enough to give it a good wearing. I already own the Inverness cape in black in 100% wool and have given it a wonderful review. At the time, I mused that it would be nice if it were offered in other colors--even perhaps a nice tweed. So, when Historical Emporium unveiled their additions to their Inverness line, I was delighted. At the time of order, I felt a little trepidation. I was worried that this version was not 100% wool. I am delighted to report that my fears were baseless. The fabric has a very nice feel, similar to a soft, heavy cotton. The coat is a good weight and ideal for cool weather and roomy enough to layer underneath for cold weather. It is not as warm as the 100% wool version, but that's easily worked around. I have received several compliments on it. (I wear my Historical Emporium clothing as part of my everyday wardrobe). I am 6'1" and about 200lbs; the M/L fits me very well with room for a bulky sweater or thick sports-coat/frock-coat underneath. I love this coat and would highly recommend it. Its also a wonderful value.

Excellent product....and very quick delivery.....perfect for the season.... I had purchased a frock coat earlier in the year, it also was excellent. However, it wasn't quite what I wanted, and the company was very good to exchange it for another. Very polite, and efficient in getting me a new product that fit better what I wanted...
